So here is my critique of the C8 (only one I tried so far). I only play in VR btw.

The cockpit 3D modelling looks superbly detailed. Big tick here. The materials on the other hand look like the old ISI materials. Why is it the Ferrari 488 and McLaren GTR have great internal material shaders and everything else seems rather flat and cartoony? Maybe the more carbon fibre the better they look.. I don't know..

The LODs are the usual crap whereby the cars in front suddenly lose their tyres a short distance ahead. The LODs on all the new DLC seem really half arsed to say the least. Opponent detail is set to full btw. (See Edit)

As for handling, well, seems pretty good to me, but what do I know about the real car.. not much other than how it looks and boy does the C8 look superb.

Edit: Case_ highlighted that the LOD issue might be due to some setting in my player.JSON and indeed he was correct. I had set "Auto Detail FPS" to 90. Reset it back to 0 and the LODs are now fine.. my bad!

Just bought this. Even not on sale it's under CAD $15 or less than $5 per car so not bad.

Plus I'm also incentivized to support the last current gen open moddable simulator. It'll be amazing to see the progress in a few years time.
Just took the three out for a spin. Loved the Corvette, knew I would, and the Ligier was surprisingly fun to drive around. The Cadillac was also great to drive, for driving's sake, but lacked a little pizzazz the others brought.

And like others mentioned before, just driving rFactor 2's handling and tire model is such a joy to experience. Other sims might have physical models for their tires (iRacing, AMS2) but they just don't feel this good.

Driving is meant to be a joy in and of itself and rFactor 2 brings that experience to life.

Its official
I am a idiot!
I bought the endurance bundle 1 (which I already have all the cars bought over the last few years) instead of the endurance bundle 2
I hope STEAM will give a refund?

Best wishes
Bob
I'm sure S397 will understand if Steam doesn't.

1; the DPI is fast.
2; the new ore...ehhh ligier is basically the oreca
3; the new UI is.....different. I'm struggling not to use a different, four letter word.

Love all 3 with the C8.R being my favorite. My only complaint is the engine sound is much more muted in the C8 than the other cars. Anyone else feel this way? Then again it might be like that in the real car for the drive, I wouldn't know, never had the pleasure to be in one.

Regardless for me great DLC and at $10.98 US for 3 cars.....Merry Christmas to me!

Yep, very muted. Says its a V8, but sounds like a 4 cyl with turbo.

Btw, someone do me a favor: when exiting the game, scroll down to the bottom of the credits under 'special thanks', does it say your name aswell?

Yep. The sound seems very muted. "Big industrial vacuum cleaner behind closed doors" type muted. Must have some serious sound deadening in that car.

Enjoying all the content of this DLC all the same.

So I of course immediately bought the pack and gave it a quick spin around Sebring.
Really like them and the way RF2 feels in general... Just wished they would have done something about the sound. The Ligier sounds exactly like the Oreca - don't know if it does so in real life, but they could have given the sounds some more love... Other than that I don't regret buying them and look forward to racing them in RD Club races
in wec at least they sound the same because rules force then to use the same engine

a lot of complaining what I don't understand! Rf2 is still the best sim driving experience. Certainly for me. When you see where they came from and this year's 24hr Le mans event on live television… the shader upgrates… I think they are doing really good job. and its getting better little by little.

Can't believe I've had this game for over 2 years without knowing it supports multiclass races with AI
Tried GTE/LMP1/LMP2 together in a quick 30 min race around Watkins Glen, and what a blast it was!
Didn't even get sent to the shadowrealm! Almost got caught by a Porsche but he spun out as he caught too much kerb on the chicane.
Fantastic sim when it runs as it should.

Yeah, that's an Easter egg that it took me forever to discover too. Who lets the credits roll till the end to discover that? No, me neither for years and years :)

Great to see more quality content come to rF2! Thanks studio 397!
I took the DPi for a spin at Silverstone and the times were the same as the LMP2s.. i was expecting them to be much faster.. are they balanced to compete amongst the three cars on equal performance?

The engine on the C8 is an overhead cam flat crank V8. The C6 & C7 used a Pushrod V8 which is why it has a much louder bellow. The C8 engine probably is closest to the Ferrari 458(yes 458 NA non turbo) Go to youtube and watch comparison races at tracks like Sebring from 2018 and 2020 and you'll hear the roar of the older cars vs. the mellow sounding new car. Interestingly, the Cadillac uses an engine similar to the older Corvettes and is much louder than the current C8 R.

Yes I understand they have different engines between the 2 vehicles. What I was referencing more is the volume just with that car in relation to others in the sim. You reference the 488 and to me in game the 488 engines volume is still louder than the C8. Maybe it is just me IDK. Still love the car though. Have been driving it the most so far so obviously it doesnt bother me to much LOL

Surely the difference in sound is due to one having a flat-plane crank, and the other having a traditional cross- plane crank, and with a different firing order? The position of the camshafts is secondary, at least as far as the sound is concerned.
Flat plane V8s always sound a bit boring, not really like a trad. V8 as we know it at all.
Ferraris too, and McLarens, shame really for the sake of the sound. But flat-plane crank engines can rev and rev, which a cross-crank engine cannot. They're limited to around 6500rpm or so, as a cross plane crank is not properly in balance. Does sound wonderful though :)

I would have bought it anyhow, but contrary to your point, I hope that this DLC will give S397 some hard-earned cash of their own indeed.
I bought it too, €9 for three cars is a steal. Now if they could fix the yellow flag bug and give us a proper transmission model, they would be a bit further down the road to being a realistic endurance sim. I'm not giving up hope....

Very true, and long ago I realized I’m more of a sim driver than sim racer.

Also not particular to one sim, I drive most of them but there really is something special about rFactor 2 when dialed in.

I stand with other comments here, the AI needs some attention.

I agree with most of the above, the cockpit 3d is better but materials rendering is not too hot (corvette best, followed by ligier and then cadillac) why cannot they be at least as decent as the ferrari gt3 (by the way the porsche GT3 is pretty bad also). I am still hopeful they will be able to have someone work on the interiors (currently too dark/flat ... lacking contrast/definition?), similar to the way they are updating track content :cautious:.
That being said, I still like/enjoy RF2 a lot (own quite a bit of non-green racing content) and am willing to live with RF2's current issues (what racing sim doesn't have them to one degree or another). Currently 5 minutes to Boot PC, set up Simhub, Crew Chief, Track IR, Joy to Key Profile and load RF2 track and car :whistling: ... onto 2-3+ hours of fun :)
