The impressive Group C mod for rFactor 2 has been updated - now at version 1.1.


Developed by the MAK-Corp sim racing modding group, and available for Studio 397's rFactor 2 racing simulation, the Group C Mod is a three car collection of some of the most iconic, powerful and impressive racing endurance cars ever created - and it is available for free for us to enjoy in our virtual racing hobby!

Containing the Sauber C11, Porsche 962C and Mazda 787B of the 1991 WSC season, the cars are a truly wonderful representation of one of the finest eras of sportscar racings long and illustrious history. Featured unique and detailed physic sets for each machine alongside all the latest rFactor 2 goodies available within the increasingly impressive sim, this new build to version 1.1 is indeed a welcomed and pleasing update to what is already one of the standout pieces of content in rFactor 2.

Available to download now from the Steam Workshop, you can check out the V1.1 update notes below:

  • Removed inside double skin 3d mesh for all cars bonnet glass - with new shaders since last update, is no longer needed.
  • Fixed dark side windows on 787b, now looks like other cars.
  • Animated wipers added to 962c and C11.
  • All wipers are fully operational and clean glass etc.
  • All windows for all cars re-exported with new uv for rain.
  • Rain on all car bodies/banner has been added and water direction movement configured as well.
  • Re-exported all car liveries with removed wiper shadows inside them because they now move and look wrong.
  • Edited and re-saved the Templates pack with all car changes if templates are wanted by you guys.
  • All cars have new backfire instead of old backfire - thanks s397.
  • RPM light added to 787b.
  • Lods made and added for all cars.
  • Improved mirror mapping on all cars

Rain racing - Please disable reflections in-game when racing in rain due to reflections in wet weather not working correctly on windscreen areas outside of the wiper clean area and because these windscreens have a lot of non wiper area compared to most due to windscreen shape, therefore making it more visible.

Apologies for another template change, it was un-avoidable and had to be done to accomodate rain support properly.

  • Manual Documentation updated to v1.1.
  • All Cars - Added aerodynamic upgrades to force AI run different setups on certain tracks
Mazda 787B
  • Revised slick tyre's grip loss on rain
  • Revised heating of wet tyres on dry condition
  • Revised clutch torque on shifter to avoid abuse on downshifts
  • Revised grip on AI front tyres
  • Revised FFB options on upgrades
  • Removed blip sound while using shifter (again)
Porsche 962
  • Modified WSC turbo hitch for better handling
  • Revised fuel consumption for each turbo step on both engines
  • Revised slick tyre's grip loss on rain
  • Revised heating of wet tyres on dry condition
  • Revised clutch torque on shifter to avoid abuse on downshifts
  • Revised FFB options on upgrades

Sauber C11
  • Increased drag and fuel consumption
  • Reduced engine life and increased damage when revving over 7000rpm
  • Increased dry tyres grip in the wet to be balanced against the other cars
  • Improved AI drivers suspension and performance on different track conditions
  • Revised FFB options on upgrades
Sounds
  • Improved interior engine sound L/R balance
  • Updated Porsche 962 turbo sounds
  • There are 4 exterior engine sound variants for Porsche 962 (1 for WSC, 3 for IMSA)

Back on topic, these cars are brutal! FFB is very strong compared to other cars. Made me sweat on the big mige.
I certainly can't speak for a direct drive wheel with all their strange setup procedures and options, but on a regular wheel, the FFB in this mod is weird to say the least, and I probably wouldn't hesitate to use the word "overdone". The default FFB setting of 5 (available in the tuning menu) is clipping constantly. You have to go all the way down to around 1 (2 max if you don't mind clipping in corners, under braking and such) to get the clipping mostly under control, but then the base forces are fairly weak, though you *still* get moments of really strong jolts on bumps, under braking and such that will clip the FFB pretty hard. It's like someone decided to over-emphasize certain FFB components in the overall FFB mix by turning them up to 11 compared to the rest of the FFB.

I really like this mod otherwise, the cars are great, but I frankly think the FFB needs work.

So ANYWAY what's the thread topic MOD like to drive anyone? I may grab it later.

Bloody hard, I tried around Cota and conceded my driving ability was too poor to enjoy these; they boost like nothing else I've tried.
I may re-look as I've kinda feel I've improved with the GT3's at least but these may soon bring my realisation I suck smack me in the face again haha!
 
Is it needed in an updated mod thread though? Ok in a post from S397 talking about their sim perhaps, but here? Just seems out of place. The modders have no power over how the sim looks.

What difference does it make honestly? Does it seriously damage everyone's psyche if someone discusses some general point about the sim in one of these threads? It happens all the time, but the only time someone complains is if that point happens to be negative. And the comment wasn't even that negative. The guy was talking about how he liked the sim, but just wishes it were a little better in the graphics department. Honestly the fan boys act like a bunch of crotchety little old ladies.
 
Yes, and you know what, AC fanboys are a bit much to take as well. They come to rF2 forums all the time and poop on threads claiming how AC graphics are better. Are they? Let's see.

TLDR

Obviously the statement about rf2 having the worst graphics are subjective. You aren't going to prove it one way or the other. I play every sim out there, from PC2, AC, ACC, RF2, R3, iRacing. And in my opinion RF2 is at the bottom of the graphics barrel. No amount of screenshots will convince me otherwise as I was just in the bloody game a few hours ago having fun.

This cultish dedication to one sim or another is stupid. If someone comments that a sim could be better in a certain area, it is not a personal attack. People seem to be a little insane honestly.
 
If you drive 10+ year old tracks converted from rF1 (or even older games) with little changes and then complain how the game "has 2004 graphics" (which is exactly what that guy did, judging from what he posted in this thread and in others) or how it's "at the bottom of the graphics barrel" and how "no amount of screenshots will convince you otherwise", don't be surprised people will disagree with you or even make fun of you.

The guy wasn't asking the modders to make the game look better. The mod is actually pretty nice for rf2. He was just making a general statement about the game. The funny thing is, if his statement had been off-topic but positive, he wouldv'e been up-voted like crazy and no one would've objected to his post. It's typical fanboy hypocritical behavior.

Honestly in a lot of cases, that is your only choice for many tracks in rf2. I think the root cause is that it is harder to work with than say AC, resulting in less mods. If it had say half the mod support of AC you wouldn't have to load up 10+ year old rips from rf1 to race on a certain track.

And the only reason I didn't bother to look at that guys ginormous response is that I played both AC and RF2 yesterday and don't need someone to show me what they look like. I already know first hand.

Ok, post one image from AC (not photo mode, from actual replay) where cars on the track don't look like some bad extractions from pictures pasted in. I hope that wasn't too long for you :rolleyes:

I just played a bloody game too, and I already know first hand how it looks. So either post a picture or shut up making false claims

Here's the thing, it's already been discussed in numerous threads, now if someone wants to know more about the mod as per thread title they have to wade through loads of posts that are irrelevant to the topic.
If some of you guys are so keen to discuss rF2 graphics then start your own thread.
 
Loving this, but ... can we race a more common track, so I don't have to learn a new track in a couple of days? :D

Mak Corp has really done a great job with this mod, and the new shaders too! Great stuff.

graphics ARE being updated, just not in one over-all update. Getting 'most' of the mods up to the newest graphic level will probably never happen, except for teams like the Group C crew and EnduroRacers or Apex modding who have been updating their mods slowly.
 
About ffb, is it possible to someone make custom ffb-plugins etc, general of specific for some cars like it was in rF1? Maybe somebody could make decent one for these cars.
You don't like the FFB?
I have to say, that if I use level 1 or 2 in the tuning menu, the FFB feels good to me. I know that Martin doesn't like it, and that's fine, but it's generally accepted that FFB is subjective.
So long as you are making your own mind up, I think that's fine. But if you allow your interpretation of or feelings about the FFB to be influenced too much by what other people say... well I don't think that would be right. This is only my opinion and others may feel differently, but I think we should all make up our own minds. :)
