DiRT Rally Regret getting this now so early

Msportdan

@Simberia
I slightly regret buying this. All I've done is tweak xml files and I'm bored with it. I had a go at Monaco and I get the issues people have it doesn't feel right. Far too twitchy snappy and feels like a f1 car on a road. Not to mention the ffb which doesn't work...at all. How can they release this like this, even in early access but surely get the ffb working!?

I'm a little gutted now I'm sure it will end up ok but I should of waited.....
Do steam do refunds

I know its ea but still its a little unplayable in its poor state.

Man, you guys are confusing me:confused: Love it, hate it, love it, etc.

Not sure where to go with this now!! I will just hang in there and try a few of the xml file settings posted. How do you comment out sections of XML files;)
Is anyone else using this with a Fanatec CSWv2 so that I have an idea of what works for that?

I know I confuse myself?!

it is good better than all the dirt games before it... theres just something about it. that makes it rallyish.. the frantic use of your wheel the grit of the stages.. it is good.

gfx are pretty good sounds are rre quality, the ffb shows signs of awesome/ just the physics they need to tidy up. but if they continue to ptomise to produce a sim, im sure this community will steer them in the right direction :)

It is really immersing graphics and sound wise. If the physics were there, then that package combined with more stages (we actually have just TWO stages at the moment, rest is just repeating sections of long stages and reverses) would be really nice.

That's not quite fair. Each of the three environments has a number of longer layouts which share some sections but have unique elements. You could state legitimately that DiRT Rally has one large "zone" per country and that routes are taken from that zone, but there is more content than just a single stage....

OK, You're right. I take that back.

The game's just been released in Early Access & you're slating it already. Make you sense no.

Make you sense no?

He's not slating it, he's just stating some facts / opinions and saying he wished he had waited before buying it... I'm feeling the same, but tbh have only tried 1 course (Wales, and after reading I should have tried Greece) and 2 cars which aren't the best.

I'm gonna go back and give it another shot on Greece with the E30 M3 / RS2000 with all the FFB tweaks I can find and see how I feel again...

But it is note unqiue stages, which, to be fair, ruins the immerson slightly for me. They basically have 2 stages for each country, that get's chopped into parts, turned around, and then is "unqiue" stages.

That they have both "sides" of Col du Turini, but not a complete stage, is also kinda disappointing.
The answer that they can't have longer stages than what they already have sounds strange when they are including Pikes Peak...

I really like this with the FFB tweaks. However the lack of variety will probably cause me to leave it for a while until more tracks are released. I personally question the decision to release an entirely new mode - hillclimb - ahead of releasing more locations.
I`m working my way through career mode, and can`t get higher than 5th against the easiest difficulty.
So a challenge to say the least :)

I started the career mode and am enjoying it a lot. I feel like one or three tweaked values from a perfect FFB config on my Forza CSR. Its certainly good enough. I enjoy WRC3 but that's not perfect either. They both feel like your racing a 70's road car with sloppy/worn out steering linkages (and considering I'm racing a Mini in Dirt Rally, I shouldn't mind!)

I like the stages a lot! Realistically narrow, but with more poly depth, it seems, off track, so clipping a rock isn't as catastrophic as it was in RBR. They have a very nice flow and there aren't too many 'gotcha' sections. As for the "stages" vs. "maps": I think so far its a LOT better than WRC and WRC 3. There is so much overlap in those games, it doesn't seem too bad so far in DR. My dream would be to recreate the 6 events and 6 stages of the Rally Championship game from 2000.

The pace notes are too slow also...

They said that? Nice move CM. Way to insult the intelligence of your customers.

Rally Championship 2000 had 25km stages in 1999. It's the same bs as with women in CoD.

I use the cswv2 in Dirt Rally, i run at 450degrees and 60% force. Rest of setting default.
Ingame all deadzones to 0. I like it, maybe i should also try 540 degrees.

Well there's still a ways to go. And if they keep current all the time with the Steam forum, they might start thinking that driving with the keyboard and the rewind feature are the most important things for a "sim".

I never really paid attention to Steam forums for games before Dirt Rally, but geez. It's almost as bad as twitch chat.

That's about how I feel trying to get the best settings in a lot of these sim / games these days. Oh it feels :):coffee:, next car oh feels like :poop: :coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::unsure::cautious::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee:, and back to :), then :coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee:.

For anyone who thinks the physics are bad just turn the FFB completely off and rely purely on graphic/audio feedback and you'll notice that the physic are really good.

When the FFB will match the physics I am pretty sure we will have a really good rally sim.

It seems like forever ago when we pushed the button and surprised the world with DiRT Rally. To everybody reading this screen we can’t thank you enough. Today we're really pleased to be able to push the button on our first big update, the Pikes Peak Pack which is available now and included in DiRT Rally no extra cost. It should start downloading the next time you log into Steam but if it just so happens that you don't own a copy of DiRT Rally yet you can purchase it on Steam right here.

Here’s a brief rundown of what we’ve added in v0.4

The world famous Pikes Peak - Built from the ground up in its full fat modern tarmac state (the first time in a video game) and the mixed surface variant we all grew up loving. We’ve also included a variety of weather conditions and three iconic Hillclimb cars to add to your garage.

You’ll find that we’ve rolled Hillclimb into our Championship mode, it will crop up from time to time in our Online Events and you’ll now be able to select it in Custom Events and add it to your Leagues.

That’s not all though, we’ve also made some improvements and additions to the rest of the game including.

Some of our AI drivers have got fed up with watching you driving so well so expect some of them to start trying to rival your performances and give you more of a run for your money.

A few changes in the UI where we’ve labelled the stages in custom events 'Long' and 'Sprint', new players will see little pop up tutorials on first visit to each game mode (don’t worry they aren’t unskippable videos). We’ve also added some new messages in other areas of the game so you know what’s going on.

We’ve changed how your engineer slots unlock so that they now pop based on distance driven rather than cold, in-game cash. If you’ve already blown a load of cash on those slots... Sorry!

Custom Events will now use the fully upgraded versions of a car rather than the poor man’s version and we’ve made sure that your favourite livery will be stored for the next event.

We’ve also added in some new liveries including the Rallysport Development wrap for the Fiat 131 Abarth, the Peugeot Sport livery for the Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2 and the Phil Collins Rally livery for the Ford Escort Mk II. Teams like these were kind enough to give us access to their awesome machines during development and without these guys and the rest of the rally scene here in the UK, DiRT Rally wouldn’t be the game it is.

On behalf of everybody at Codemasters thank you to those awesome rally folks and a huge thank you to you for playing.
