RDRC S9 Round 5 - Rally Spain (29th March - 4th April 2021)

Back in RDRC after two seasons away, Rally Spain presents the drivers with an extremely flowing, fast, wide tarmac-road, and is the only pure tarmac event of the season. After having a very challenging time in Poland, this is sure to be a welcome change for the drivers. Smoother more gentle roads, and a bit more leniency in terms of services. It almost looks easy. Almost. A pure tarmac event might also bring some new guys to the front, for all we know there is a Gilles Panizzi among us! Rally Spain will cover 122km of special stages which will fly by really quick. Blink and you'll miss it!

The different classes are getting their championship rivals sorted at this point in the season. But it's quite evident that behind fight for the titles, it is a big group of drivers swapping positions all the time. It's still everything to fight for, for every driver in the field. As this is the only pure tarmac event, I wouldn't be surprised to see tarmac specialists show up, and take some glory. Also, with the very fast stages, combined with how smooth and wide they are, it's a very good chance that we will see the RDRC-2 cars being able to fight for, and possibly even win the rally outright! It's certainly going to be interesting to see!

• The Rally is from 29th March 00:00 UTC+1 until 4th March 23:59 UTC+1. You must finish and have uploaded your times from the last stage before the end-time to register the stage result. Note: Timing have changed from UTC to UTC+1 due to daylight saving in Europe Sunday 28th March. Local start times for Europe have not changed. If unsure about what time UTC+1 is now compared to your time, check here​
• Remember to join the correct league/club for the class you drive in. If not, you will not be able to participate.​
• If your name on the results shown at dirtrally2.dirtgame.com doesn't match what you signed up with, or doesn't match what you have on the official entry list (see first post in the Sign-Up thread) and fail to inform us about your correct name within 48 hours of the provisional results being published. You will be removed from the results. There will be no exceptions to this. See Directors Note for rules-clarification on this.​
• If you haven't signed up, you can do that here. You must sign-up to be able to participate. The sign-up must be accepted and valid before the end of the rally to be accepted.​
• Feel free to take screenshots and videos and share it in our Rally World Thread. Screenshots can be end up being included in the next magazine!​
• Feel free to share your experience from the rally in this thread, share the perfect runs and the perfect failures! All in the name of fun!​
• Driving in more than one class will lead to an instant DQ(removal) from the results.​
• Any rule changes will be posted in the Directors Note Thread. Please keep yourself updated on any changes.​

As usual, at the end of post 4, all information is given, and the thread is open!

A "perfect storm" in regards to the magazine, both writers had their birthday within the period when articles are normally written, and designer/graphical-maestro Jack had a monitor go "bye bye" during the week. Which all have combined to proof-reading being done on Sunday EU-time, and last changes has to be done when it's daytime in New Zealand again. So magazine will come during EU-night/EU-morning on Monday. It will be worth the wait though

We in the RDRC-Crew wish you all the best of luck, and maximum of fun on the grippy tarmac in Spain! Enjoy and share pictures and stories like there's no tomorrow!

Some early pratice has been going on for me in the Lancer. We did discover that we did not have any asphalt-rims for the car, though, so during the last week we went out and found some used ones. Since we did not have time to paint them in the blue color, we decided to stick with the easter-yellow theme this time around.

Some testing have been done, and the reports from the local spectators are incredible!
We have no clue what they are saying since we dont speak Spanish, but from what i can understand, they are talking about driving like an "burro".. whatever that means


Anyway, we are looking forward to this one!

Rhythm is the key. I’ll practice with my wife.

But to survive day 2 morning I’ll have to stay in first gear...

For Missed Apex Racing the amount of practice in Spain will be relatively normal, but due to participating in the Sebring 12 hours during last weekend in iRacing together with Mr. Fastest-Escort-In-Town @Camaro735 himself and coming home just short of the podium in P4, we will drive a bit later in the week this time. It might be on Friday morning even, as that is public holiday in Germany.

To all the competitors I wish a handful of space between you and any guardrail / rock / cliff and a good amount of pace. But don't drive too fast!

I'd also like to thank the admins of the RDRC once again for providing one of the things we will remember about a year which will be known for staying at home most of the time. The amont of effort you are putting into this and the magazines must be enormous and I am grateful for every minute you put into creating and maintaining this level of "event" for us.

People practise? I just rock up and see what happens (it shows, currently a 33% rally completion rate!)

Apparently they do! I tend to do some screenshot-runs for the magazine when needed (In the Skoda Star-Car). Then I watch loads of youtube videos for writing the stageguides, to see if there are certain places that many struggle with, or anything else that I wouldn't be able to figure out with me just driving the stages again and again.

So come rally-time, I've driven on parts of stages some times with a Skoda R5. Watched random youtube-videos of the stages... and not done a single stage with the BMW M3 that I am doing RDRC with!

I literally do the shortest stage as a time trial to make sure my recording is working (for any clips) and the game is running ok....then straight in. And out. Usually.

Hmm, you're the third person who have asked me this. I guess I should've written it like "show." to try to make it clearer that it's shortening for something
It's just not enough space to write "showers/wet". Granted, I could just write "showers" as well I guess
