Welcome to the Race Department Historic Grand Prix (RDHGP)

The RDHGP League staff welcome you to the 2009 RDHGP season.

We are using a selected field of 5 cars conforming to the FIA GTC65 specifications & regulations. The season will run over 8 races, 7 races over a distance of 100km, plus the season finale over a distance of 200km. The 100km races will be run on alternating Thursdays commencing 7th May, with the season finale running on Saturday 8th August.

While by it’s very nature, the League environment is more competitive than the Club environment, please remember what makes the GTL Club so unique – our consideration for all other competitors at all times. Let’s try and carry this tradition of clean, fun and considerate racing over into a League environment.

Circuit Notes

Ireland’s Mondello Park was opened in 1968, the original 1.3km track being extended to 1.9km for the following season for what we know as the “National” circuit layout. The track was extended in 1998 to 3.5km – the “International” circuit.

The RDHGP, due it’s prestige, unique format and exotic blend of vehicle, will be using the 2.8km “Intermediate” layout, which has not been used for car racing since 2000. We thank Mondello Park for re-opening this rarely used layout for us.

The Race Director has some notes for drivers. Please see the track map above for location of Race Direction note:-

  1. The Start / Finish straight is fairly narrow, and the pitlane exit can be quite tricky. It would be unreasonable and unfeasible to expect drivers at the race start to avoid the pitlane exit. Therefore, the Race Director has the following finding:
The Pit Exit is usable only at the race start (defined by the Go signal until the completion of Corner 1, Lap 1 by the last runner) as normal racetrack and thereafter, for avoidance purposes only. Drivers using it as their habitual line will face penalty.

  2. The Esses have a tyre wall that can, if impacted, throw the affected car across the track, potentially into the path of following cars. Other areas of the track tend to send you away from the track rather than back across it, which is why this one is being mentioned.

  3. The Pitlane Entrance is immediately beyond a fast, accelerating turn. If you are intending to pit and you have a car close behind you who you think is not going to pit, you will need to be careful when and how you brake for the Pitlane. Similarly, if you are following a car closely through this turn, you will need to be aware of the possibility of them pitting.

Incidents, Investigations and Penalties

As this is round 1 there are no outstanding Incidents, Investigations nor Penalties.
Please remember, the League staff will only review incidents if they are reported to them.

No report = no review.

Please try and remember the incident reporting guidelines: review, 24 hour cool off, review again. Only after following the above process, and if you are convinced you still need to report it, should you let the League staff know. Please give as much information as possible during the report (time of incident, drivers involved etc.)

The RDHGP will not be running the virtual license format adopted by the RDTCC. Incidents will be treated on a case-by-case basis, and punishments dispensed on the merits (or not) of the complaint. The League Staff reserve the right to remove any driver from the league if a pattern of infringement becomes apparent. League Staff decisions on penalties are final and not subject to appeal.

Liveries

You have chosen your car and livery already, and you must only drive your chosen car at any time during an RDHGP event. We are using the default liveries only in RDHGP.

Competitors Summary

Attached to this briefing, you will find the summary for all competitors that have registered for this league. This reflects the driver registered in GPCOS, not the sign up thread. This will show their name, nationality, vehicle choice, number and livery. This is for reference only and will not change to reflect performance or attendance. As drivers register in GPCOS, the chart will be updated.

GPCOS will be the tool for defining attendance and record keeping.

Oh man, over-concentrated during the second part of the race. First part i took it really slow the first laps to get Patrick in sleep mode (did it work?) and in lap 5 I decided to take off and strike a gap. Could simple run low 2:14s for a few laps and i had my 3 second lap towards Patrick. But then the nerves started to kick in. I was already planning how to look in the camera on the podium. Spray champagne over Patrick or Peter? How will the miss looks that gives us the flowers, that kind of stuff.
While things like that ran thru my mind the gap with Patrick was stable but i wasnt too happy because i didnt know what times he was running, was he fooling me or was i fooling him?
Nerves got worse and worse and in the Aqua Catastophale it went wrong: 180! (no darts). Patrick took the lead again but I didnt have enough tyres left to do hotlaps anymore. Pat missed T1 i prayed he got a stop & go but he didnt :) He just continued with what he does best: annoyingly calm in P1 driving his race.
With four laps to go it was all or nothing, and in kamikaze style i tried to close the gap. Laptimes were a little faster then Patrick but unfortunately I had to run wide in the Aqua Irritante and took P2!

Great result for the Shelby guys and this gives a lot of hope for hte rest of the championship. Shelby's can win :woop:

Grats Patrick for P1 and grats steady Goggy in P3!! See you'll all in the next round!!

My best RD race so far!

Didn't have much practice but slowly learned how to drive the Alpine around the track. Qualified 13th i think.

Race was awesome with nice racing with Matt, Kris, Simon, Maurice and Stuart in the beginning. Finished 9th

Major apologies for the start Stuart [and indeed Nikcolay who was unfortunately left at the back as a result] ... I really was unsure what happened and still am somewhat... Left the starting grid and two cars in front moved aside and the veil of smoke lifted to reveal a mystery Gog who seemed to be in the middle of a lag spike. I collided with the lagging car and immediately looked behind me to see what was happening / if anyone was coming up, when I look in front a moment later there's a green Healey in front of me... didn't even see who it was at the time. Rather an odd one as looking at the replay your car collides with the back of mine and immediately starts spinning round round the front of me. :( :rain:

Other than that tainted part it was a very good race... About half way round I was thinking maybe I could do it without even a single excursion on to the grass. Very good racing with Amir even though I don't think I ever got in front (really didn't want to push too hard and risk it ;)). Around lap 15 as the tyres started to feel a little scary I failed in my not-going-on-the-grass challenge and turned in too soon coming down the hill, then I messed up the final chicane on the same lap.
This left Knut quite close behind and closing in, and the final few laps were rather tense. The last lap was even more so as we had to get past a smoking Hans and rather oddly a Thomson parked in the middle of a chicane* :heh:. I stayed in-front (just) and took 8th :)

Thankfully no lag for me this week either. Good race and congrats to the people at the sharp end of things.

*looking at the replay it was another rather odd thing as you just crossed the line and started that weird flashing on-and-off thing that seems to happen sometimes, but your car was jumping back and forth between where you were and the middle of the chicane

Had a great race but i wonder if i did finish on tyres or on rims :D ?!

Quali: P16. brought home a 2:19.1xx. Think i would be poss to do at least 1 - 1.5 secs better, but i just couldn't do a good lap. Oh well, didn't mind in my first GTL league race.

Start: Not good, did react well on the lights, but some other guys did that aswell. One ferrari had a really really bad start (maybe little nap before the race :)), cause it was at least 3 row in front, so i had to lift to avoid that car. Then at pit exit 2 or more car hit, causing one car to take off into the blue yonder (who was that btw?) and Nikolay spinning his Merc on the other side of the track. Miraculously i managed to get thru, but later in that lap i binned one of the chicanes, so had cut warning 1 in tha pocket.

After the pack started to settle i was in P11, with Kris in front and Knut, Stu, Simon and later Nikolay too, behind me. Kris was slowly getting away with his nifty little alpine and Simon was putting pressure on me with his quicker Ferrari. In the corners i managed to gain or maintain in front, but on the straights Simon gained a little.

Some laps later Simon was gone and Knut was getting closer and closer. After several laps behind me, he managed to get in front after a little mistake in the Tosa hairpin. After that it was bye bye Knut, cause he was just too quick for me in the corners. Then i had some quiet laps, until i saw that i was closing in to Bert with his ferrari. He clearly had a lot of problems in Villeneuve, so i managed to get closer. One lap later, i also had a mistake in Villeneuve: Cut warning 2...aaaaah. For now one i needed to ease off a bit, cause i could feel the tyres were getting worn (cause of the many laps and my unfriendly driving....i was smoking a lot :D). Then Bert went off again, so was back in P11. After a hairy last lap, with avoiding Stu's ghostcar which was parked in the middle of the Variante Alta (i didn't want to get my 3rd warning there..), i brought the car home in P11 :)

Happy with the result and my driving. Was a great experience. Really are starting to love this game....Race ON :D !!!!

Thanks for the great company guys and auf wiedersehen in Hockenheim :)
