Rally - Sno-Balls Monday 4th & Tuesday 5th April 2011

Dariusz it was good to run with you tonight/morning. I was wondering how I finished ahead of you on SS4 and 8.

I'm slowly starting to push the car more and more without crashing but I almost killed it on SS7.

I also had a very gentle off on SS3 that quickly got the engine overheated. I thought the car was going to quit on me the rest of the stage, but it held together.

Thanks to Warren and all who made it possible. I had a blast!!!

I had a rather sudden change of plans for yesterday, so I will join OC today, sorry for the late news. Cool, it's two hours later than I thought (forgot that southern hemisphere has winter coming :)).

My rally consisted of several red snow moments especially on stage 2 sikawhateveritis, usually love that stage but this time had a small off hit a tree and no gears, end of story. After that it all went downhill. Mind you, diamond creek wasn't too shabby, got throiugh in a reasonable time. Little offs made for big crashes and big damage, not a good thing. It was however fun to get my feet wet again ( pun intended )

Thanks to the organisers as always

Cheers

Yes Norman, i definately know what you mean with hero mode...

Mine was switched on after the first red screen, but it made sure i needed to call for help once switched on twice.
So it's a dangerous mode to toy with... :D

I have made too many errors tonight...in the last ss I have broke the gearbox and I make 2Km in first gear...disaster...

Simone, are you serious? Did you actually had snow on that stage?
Some stages you are 30 seconds ahead of the average "normal" times,
you must be joking in saying this...

How hard is it to drive on snow with no brakes? Read on......

SS1 - decidedly average, nothing of any interest here....move along
SS2 - keeping the Cordy on boost worked a treat here, quickest of the OC pilots
SS3 - and threw it all away....head on with a tree insta-kill
SS4 - smacked rear right on rock, brakes gone...kept on, rolled and lost bonnet, bumper and half destroyed the clutch
SS5 - brakes gone again, got it wedged in some trees at one point...unbelievable!
SS6 - now this is more like it...nice and smooth, and fast
SS7 - the brightness...it burns!!!
SS8 - slightly sideways over 'the drop' but otherwise nothing to report

A right mess tonight, thanks to all involved in organising the event.

Disaster :). Seriously lacking pace, and on the surface I really enjoy.

Tried fiddling with the wheel: FFB on, 540 rotation -> default, times crap; reduced rotation to 360 -> less fun, times still crap; turned off FFB, back to 540 rotation -> way more fun, but times still crap :D

CFHs everywhere, dead bodies everywhere. I killed people 1 metre before the finishing line on Diamond Creek. Got stuck in tree stumps on Chirdonhead. 3-4 CFHs on Mineshaft.

Had nothing to lose, so went flat out over the jump :D. The car landed just before the trees, but couldn't stop it, so went in anyway. The car was gone after that, was driving around at 60 km/h :D
Too bad I forgot to save the replay.

Cheers Warren

Ohhh YES, having tons of fun :D , thats what i like about RBR, not the bloody tarmac..:D
This :D.

I also know too well what do you mean by Hero mode, Norman. It's more like a wannabe-hero mode and I (thankfully) managed to avoid it this time despite pressure being strong.

I started slow and steady, thought that I could be rather quick on SS1 only to see Mr. Adamantium (i.e. Warren :)) trump my time. Battled for the OC lead with both him and Damien on the first stages until Damien suffered a crash. I also had an unfortunate trip on Autio - took one corner a bit too eagearly, lost control of the steering and hammered into a tree, laying the car on left door and bending the steering.

After limping to the finish I had almost 20 seconds to make up if I wanted to catch Warren, so tried to push on the last Finnish stage and managed to close the gap by good 15 seconds. However Diamond Creek was a whole different story - picking long gears was probably a mistake here in this conditions, but it was my cautious braking that made me lose another 6 seconds to Dr. Smooth.

I "never gave up" and pushed on the wonderful English stage. Was able to take the lead and keep it through Mineshaft - I was really scared of this one, haven't tried the surface so I wasn't sure what grip can I expect there.

Had enormous fun, must be a first time when I was able to keep up with the Crazzy Ozzies head-to-head. Had a real, real good fun driving in a pure Rally Club spirit, thank you for that!

LOl, looks like most of us have a sad tale to tell in this one. My night was also mixing some horrible crashes with reasonable runs, strange really, I used to always be really smooth and steady on snow, but these days I do horrible things and get badly out of control, maybe just overdriving it.
I actually found the big heavy Skoda to be mostly fun, on some stages it was pretty good, provided I could keep the momentum up. Make a mistake and lose speed, or get off line, and it takes an eternity to get back under control again. A couple of the tight twisty Stages (eg. Mineshaft), it was a real handful due to not being nimble enough. It also needs to have the understeer dialed out, that got me into some trouble.

SS03, I hit a tree head on (but slowly) and managed to survive to the finish, so the Skoda seemed tough.
SS05, I rolled it into a violent multiple series of flips into the snowy wilderness and up against a tree. Somenow, it flipped back onto it's boots, so I reversed out, and ploughed my way through the soft snow until I eventually found the road again. For once in my life, I actually picked the right way to drive too.
SS07 was going ok until I understeered off towards the trees at high speed. Somehow, I managed to pull the car up and get back on the road again, but lost heaps of time.

Well done to Lukasz for winning the OC Session, but it looked like most of us had our share of problems tonight, no really fast overall Rallys among us.
Thanks to Damien for the TS banter, we had plenty of disaster stories to share.

I am through, and at least I finished all the stages. This was an "average minus"-rally, with som okay stagetimes, and some stupid mistakes... I clipped the stone on the inside of the long left hander early on Chirdonhead and locked the gearbox i fifth for the rest of the stage, as one example...

The Escort is a funny car to drive, and I enjoyed it a lot. Will have to rest a bit more before the next rally, though

Thanks for organising, and for your patience with me this time around :)

SS1: Oh, I can feel the fever, and that I'm far from fully fit. I felt that it went OK, but behind Roy at the first split. The split I felt i did it best on. Was 11 sec in front of Roy on split two. and almost 13 sec in front at finish. Surprise for me! :)

SS2: Sikakama -.- An OK stage, some small mistakes. But in front of Roy at least! :)

SS3: Mustaselka. This stage is too bumpy for me to get any rythm, maybe it is a lot better without default setup? And I'm starting to feel exhausted of this. But it went well :) Roy was in front of me by about 5 sec.

SS4: Lot's of small mistakes. The fever, and lack of talent is showing!

SS5: I don't care about the time. This was a stage without a single mistake! My best stage for a long time! :D 13 sec in front of Roy!

SS6: Now the modded stages starts! I don't like this stage with gravel, and I don't like snow... So i really don't like this stage! Did no mistakes at all and ended up 2.66 behind Roy, not bad after all! :)

SS7: Sunglasses-time! This stage is bloody funny when everything works out. To make that happen you need some luck and full concentration. I might have the luck, but not the concentration today. It worked OK. Roy did at least one huge mistake and neded up 34 sec behind me, so I don't really know if I had a good stagetime or not.

SS8: Last stage! Mineshaft. I pushed for a 4.30 last time around in the fabia, haven't been close to get under 5.30 with snow and Seat... Might loose much here. And lost it all... I knew the damagemodel on the SEAT is strange, but I didn't know that the oilpump is under the car/on the co-driver side... Retired, damnit.
I drove off the road, and down a place where it is far down (didn't jump or hit anything, just slipped down) and then I hit one of the many "walls" sideways (more rear than front) and then the oilpump breaks... frustrating to loose whatever position on a fault that isn't entirely mine on the last stage :(
