Rally - Group N Team Challenge 2- Mon 6th & Tues 7th December 2010

Same here with stage 7, noticed I had wet tarmac tyres on for it just after I clicked "Go" It would prove to be the only stage I retired on so pretty happy with my driving tonight. Stage 1 was terrible for me but managed to get settled with the car afterwards.

Replays available here

No stage 7 as it didnt give me an option to save after retirement. Stage 8 did not play back properly (probably because its a BTB stage)

anybody have any idea why we were all put on wrong tires for that Finland stage? and why the Aussies are now warned because we couldn't keep our big mouths shut ...

Gee thanks guys, but I'll bet I still forget to check anyway.

yes Jeff, saved replays never work with BTB Stages.

I have been asked to delete the results from SS07, as a result of so many drivers using the wrong tyres.

So, for this Rally, we will not count SS07 this time.

HOWEVER, we will not make this a common practice. It is the drivers responsibility to check his tyre selection (and any setup changes if wanted) before driving the Stage.
The automatic tyre selection in RSRBR2010 has been known to make a few errors occasionally (eg. my warning about SS08 selecting Snow tyres), so drivers should always check which tyres they want to use. Just like real rallying, hey.

I know many people turn off the automatic tyre selection option, just to make sure they get into the habit of checking tyres before driving.

These kinds of things have happened before, recently too. People, me included, had to redownload something in a hurry. Some people didn't make it on time, missed the first stage, and lost the rally win.
And that's something you don't really have that much control over. This is kinda pointless, but ok.

This was my first rally in over two weeks, so a bit rusty for me.

Had a roll on SS1 in the first tight corner, where I should know better. On New Bobs I had a real rough patch, but got back into the groove before anything too major happened. I noticed the tire thing on Finland, but forgot to switch for Alpes, so lots of sliding and a CFH.

Fun stuff, thanks guys.

Had some time now, tried to join the OC, but forgot to install the stage pack :frown:. Missed the first stage, so I'm definitely driving tonight.

Started doing the results. Hans, I see you were driving the Škoda Octavia, the car Warren asked us not to use. Judging from some of your times, you probably realized that the car is awful to drive :D

Another fun Rally for me, but my driving is becoming very erratic these days. I must be getting too old now. :ghost:

The first 4 stages were ok ish, but on SS05 I hit a tree I have never seen before, resulting in driving most of the Stage with badly damaged steering. Then on SS06, I was rollicking along nicely until right near the end, went into a turn too quickly, the rear end let go and I went backwards over the cliff. oops!!.

For some reason I was very slow over the BTB Stage, not sure why, made a few little mistakes but nothing serious, just slow compared to Damien and Eddie. :turtle:

I thought Alpes was a nice Stage too.

I skipped SS07.

Well done to Damien for winning our little group (only 3 of us). Eddie put in his usual fast stages but again seemed to miss the first Stage. Is there a problem there for you Eddie, are we starting too early?

This is not fair, everybody should know that Finland Normal is Snow:frown:, is not a BTB stage where some PCs won't work. Is just a game, but still...

Sorry Robb, it was a reluctant decision based only on the fact that so many drivers were caught out. For all future Rallys, I will include a general warning about checking tyre selection, and anyone caught by using wrong tyres will just have to blame themselves or their pit crews. :frown:

Yep Hans, the only reason I didn't include the Skoda Octavia was because I found it terrible to drive. The brakes are deadly in that car and must need some major setup changes to make it driveable.
Your results can count, but you made things very difficult for yourself.

Arhh! i was late to the party and missed SS1 in the OC session, no DNF's for the remaining stages so i was pleased about that.
A huge rock on New Bobs did some serious damage to my gearbox and engine, stuck in 3rd gear and slipping clutch 2 mins into the stage, that's what you get for corner cutting:D
I thought i had the Alps in the bag, until a 1 gear roll at a hairpin put an end to that thought lol! BTW the Alps a nice stage!

N cars are great to drive and need a bit more care i find, no superman brakes or 300hp to pull you out of danger. Pity the snow stage was canceled.. i was surprised i finished it lol!
Just Damien & Warren in the OC tonight, Damien the best of our bunch, i hope others in Warren's team had better luck than me, fingers crossed?

Good times overall, thanks to Warren & Senad for organising.

Later.

Is there a problem there for you Eddie, are we starting too early?

LOL, i was going to mention something about that in my report, but last week's problem was a technical one, tonight's was a human one (running on kiwi time hehe), it won't happen again:), i hope it hasn't cost us the bragging right's LOL!

Maybe next time you should just put a note "Those cars are not recommended" ;). I don't think slower cars should be excluded only too fast ones. Sometimes it's huge fun to drive an underdog and be fast enough while doing so. Note about inferior performance in bold red letters or something should suffice :).

Agree about the slower cars thing, just a reccomendation would be good. I found the default setting for the brakes on the Escort needing major adjustments too otherwise it was like yanking on the handbrake everywhere.
About the ss7 time, I am pleased its being negated. However, I wouldnt have minded if it had been counted, like the man said, its up to the driver to check the tyres, just a shame you cant do it in the setup screen along with everything else.

Also guys, remember, this is just a bit of fun, dont take it too seriously ;)

I looked over the settings and saw the tyres were wrong. Just throw a glance at the tyres/car settings before the stage :)

I chose the wrong tyres for Alpes, my own fault. I thought it was an icy stage by looking at the condition of the road. Still, was a lot of fun drifting on the studs :)
