Rally - Elderly Escort- Mon 11th & Tues 12th October 2010

Phew... made it. Thought I stand a chance against Simone on the last stage, but apparently I was a bit too cautious and ended up losing by almost 7 secs. Well, at least my triumph-for-now on Noiker stands :). Great pace, Simone, congrats!

Great rally, Warren, Senad. Congrats as well! :D Can't wait to see how other timezones fared.

Practiced only for 5 minutes (one run of Hualapai before the start, already past 19 GMT :D), but it wasn't really necessary. This car is a bit like the shameful econobox my family owns. Even speeds aren't that much different :). Conserving momentum, anticipating the brakings, careful on the downhill sections; watching the speedo rather than rev meter to know when to shift most efficentyl... I felt like driving the 0.8L Daewoo Tico on the real road at times :D. And when you're tackling the corner uphill, WOT and the car decelerates? Wicked :). Not much sideways action (not really favorable technique in such an underpowered car), but powering out of tight bends was tricky AND fun. Last couple hundred meters of Joux Plane made my hands on the wheel sweaty, that doesn't happen often.

And I managed to be faster than Świder overall, we were neck to neck very often. Grats for the great pace so early after beginning the RBR adventure. I'm jealous :)

Just finished surviving Noiker. MAGIC! We need more lenghty stages :). And seeing how long it takes to finish it - maybe (from the next event to make it fair) we should change the way we count DNF? Maybe every DNF == winners time +5 mins? It would be more sensible in my eyes, as on Noiker in Escort the penalty is relatively small, and probably someone WILL be slower than the default time.

Agreed, especially in this case. But I wouldn't do it in general, it would add a lot more calculations to the process. Since I still do it all by hand, it would take a while. Normally, cars aren't this slow.
I'll try to find a way to automate some things.

How many replays you want to send Senad?

Send as many as you want :good:
I usually include specific stages and comments in my posts after the rally, that helps in finding it later in replays.

Rally done :)

ss.5 not very good
ss.6 a big off into the wilderness, CFH and few other close calls lol
ss.7 a huge off ( would think it was possible in those cars lol ) CFH, a few corner later another off into a tree,CFH but driveshaft broken and the car wouldn't move an inch even the engine runs and gear change is ok. Had to retire.
ss.8 thats another story, good one for your video Senad...lol

Here are my replays:

I've enjoyed tonight drive immensely, nice battle with Lukasz until i dropped from it with my off's but i wished i had tried this car before the event on a few stages ( or all of them ) as keeping the momentum going was crucial and my lack of knowledge had cost me dearly lol.
But slowly the data uploads to my brain, a few moths of playing and i should be pretty familiar with the vast majority of the stages :).

The car: what a pleasure to drive, slow but sooo much fun, i already vote for another club rally with it, on snow maybe....:).
Well done to Simone for the EU win and Lukasz for good fight while it lasted, GL and have fun OC and US :).

Thx RD , Warren and Senad for setting it up, till next week guys...:)

No, don't do it! I'm still barely familiar with most of the stages (ie I only remember a few crucial corners per stage) and I don't really want to memorize all the stages. It's not rally like :). And you will be completely out of my reach when you will have them fiqured out to perfection :). Was great chasing/escaping you today.

LOL Lukasz, it will upload by itself eventually , nothing i can do about...lol, but as i only play RBR once a week for a couple of hours it WILL take some time yet...

And every time i play it feels fresh and surprising on 90% of the corners..lol

Thank you all for the congratulations!:) I have made a request of help in the first path on Noiker and I have made a loop in Falstone, but without serious damage fortunately. For the rest of the race I have do my best and I tried to go as fast as I can! This is a very funny car :-D

Lol Dariusz, as you are finding, RBR takes a long time to get used to, which is part of the enjoyment (if you are patient and persistent). To add to the challenge, each car seems very different and the weather and road surface changes means that you never really become totally familiar with what is coming next. However, you certainly start to remember where the dangerous trees, rocks, bridges, spectators etc are after a while, once you have crashed into them numerous times.
We'll keep mixing up all the variables as much as possible to keep it "interesting", wait till you see what is "brewing" for the next Rally, couldn't be more different in terms of the car speed.:eek: :D:D

Fingers crossed.

Just did the EU results, nice Simone . First rally here, and already beating this lot.
Although, if Dariusz drove like he did last week, no wonder really.

Power outage, barely made it, 1 minute before the start of the rally.

SS5 done, one clean stage so far. Well, no, one fast stage so far, had my share of moments there too :D.

Chirdonhead was great! Up until I got stuck in the mud, tried to get myself out, but had to CFH after all. And then I couldn't move again, so another CFH :D
2 seconds faster than Warren after the first split, 2:35 slower at the end :D

Jesus... Falstone was going soooo well... And I rolled while I had the finish line in sight :(

Hahaha Noiker, I can fill the video with just this stage :roflol:
I won't say anything, I'll just share my time: 16:35.68

Finished! No retirements :woot:

Such a bad time overall, but such a fun car :). Hope to see it again, or another similar oldie. Nice one Warren :good:

That turned out really good for me, in a liesurely smooth sort of way. I think the secret might have been to just keep it very smooth and maintain a steady momentum. Once the old Escort slowed too much, it took an eternity to wind the rubber band up again.

Only Senad, Rick and I in the Oceania Rally, bit of a shame really, but still fun. Rick had some horendous crash stories over TS, so make sure you get some of his replays Senad.

Geez Senad, if you can eliminate some of your "incidents" and put together a consistent Rally, you are going to be right up the pointy end. Rick and I were noticing your Split Times on some stages, often up with us (or even in front on occasions), a case of "if only" hey mate.

My ribs held up ok for the Rally, but this car didn't require much throwing around, very stately. It's a good thing nobody could see me sitting at the PC and driving with a huge pillow stuffed behind my back.
I only kept the last few replays Senad, but they will be veeeery boring. :)

Ah, damn, that power outage made me scramble to get into the rally, completely forgot about TS.

I was quite happy with some stages. The car was made for England, was driving brilliantly there. Too bad the driver wasn't as brilliant

No worries about boring replays, if nothing else, I have enough to fill a feature length movie :D

I have replays from three people so far, if anyone else has something they'd like to share, please send it to senad.subasic@gmail.com :good:
Since the skin is so plain, I might add people's names on the windows, to make it a bit different.

Off to do the results now.
