Rally - Alpine Challenge - Monday 16th & Tuesday 17th May 2011

SS1: Bad stage. Lost 10 sec. The car doesn't turn when braking, that is a big problem!

SS2: Overcorrected the brakes, now I had a handbrake every time i touched the pedal. Didn't feel good, and I got stuck on a 90 degree "spin", didn't realize it, so I lost 15-16 seconds before using CFH, so I lost around 40 on that. Ended 40.3 behind winner, so that was frustrating... But now I feel a bit angry, so this will go good, or very bad...

SS3: F*** I crashed in the wooden fence on the inside going into S3. I had a 7 sec lead, but ended 2 sec behind. F***!!!!

SS4: It felt good, until I hit the spectators on the last corner, 25 sec behind... I really don't like it... My luck is **** And the lag has started again!

SS5: Roll cause of lag... Massive nightlag... Fed up.

SS6: crashed

SS7:Retired, this stage was boring with this car.

SS8: Hitting the marshalls on last Sector after a CFH in Sector 2 made it for. I se that after 5 drivers I was still only 3 sec behind the faster, after the CFH, so I had speed on this stage and Sheperds, but made som dumb mistakes. I actually REALLY had speed.

Oh well, the car was BAD under braking, it was oversteering, neutral, understeering as it wanted it itself... That was not fun, and the lack of turning while off throttle as well. Darn fun on throttle though. And the most of the stages was fun, but Tanner... well, it sucked.
I got some lag again, it's frustrating. But didn't ruin the rally this time. I made it myself.

But this is, if I'm not wrong my first or second club rally ever without a stage win... darn!

I would rather race the Ford, M3 or Volvo (and on snow!!!!)...

Thanks for the "challenge", Senad :D

One retirement and a couple of hero stages on SS2 and SS3 put paid to any decent result.
But fun stuff nevertheless.

Thought there'd be a lot more dead Alpines than we got.

glad to see I wasn't the only one feeling the ride was a bit odd, especially when you slowed down and under breaking.

s01 ended 2nd to last but basically just trying to survive after only three test stages yesterday.
s02 ended up dead last after 1 CFH and anotherwise nice run.
s03 dreadful run, dead last again and last overall, got stuck in the ditches two times after minor offs, took me ages to get the old Renault out again, maybe CFHs would have been quicker ... to top it off I crossed the finish line butt first after a 180 spin in the last corner, kind of showed my feelings towards this stage :)
s04 first clean and fun run, though the 90 degrees turns or other slow turns remain a mystery to me.
s05 one perfectly executed 360 dgeree pirouette and a bit too scared in the dark, but others messed up so 6th marked my best stage result tonight. 8th overall. Alpine liked this kind of gravel wayyyyy more than the English kind, let's try Aussie stuff:
s06 average run, no real problems but the banks to either side made drifting difficult. up to 7th overall
s07 Alpine and Japan gravel: seriously bad joke: this felt more like ice, dunno how often I went through the undergrowth, I must have mashed gazillions of those cute white flowers. One CFH early on as I just slid down a bank trying to get one of those darn slow 90 degree turns right :(
s08 snow in gravel mod has never been to my liking, but I got through quite ok in 8th and 7th overall at finish.

interesting experience, though not quite close to reality I would suspect. Thx for a fun night of gaming everyone at RD responsible for the club, cu at next tournie rally.

Wow guys, i read crash, crash and crash in your posts, whats happening?

Caution was the dish of today for me, never driven the car before but like it very much. Only 1 major spin but not much damage, clean ( and slow ) all the others stages. Tanner was the least enjoyable, i was really missing the handbrake there. Snatched 2nd from Lukasz at the last stage:tongue:, i,m very surprised i managed podium in EU. Nigel was in class of his own tonight with consistency and speed, grats m8:).

:thanks: for the setups Nigel, i only weaken the brake pressure and changed the lock, it was perfect :good:.

WD all & GL to those still to run :)

That turned out to be a lot of fun tonight, glad I was able to join the other OC guys. Good to have Chris joining Jeremy, Al, and I on Teamspeak too.
I'm still having a few problems with my PC but it held out for the full Rally, luckily.

This was a very tricky car to drive, very different to the other RWD cars we have tried, it seemed to have a very narrow power band but when you hit the peak spot, it really accelerated (or wheelspun  ). Once I got a feel for it, I quite enjoyed it. The Stages seemed to get harder as we went too, which helped to get a feel before the really dangerous sections started. Nice selection of Stages Senad. :thumb:

Jeremy and I had a great battle, swapping OC Stage wins regularly, and always very close overall. Only due to Jeremy having a crash in the night Stage, I was able to sneak a small gap till the end. Very nice racing Jeremy. :thanks:
Al was putting down some good consistent times too, especially considering he was new to the Stages and had never driven one of these tricky RWD cars.

Huge thanks to Senad for organising the whole shebang while I was away. :thanks: Personally, I thought this was a good'un, different, tricky, but still fun. The A310 had a nice sound too. :D

Thanx warren, yeah that damn rock....no i would say mountain of a boulder pulled my car up pretty hard, luckly i was able to continue on with my time only suffering a little, then i came off again and broke the brakes so drove the last 3rd of the stage with no brakes :p

Was a fun rally and a fun car to drive, i think it would have been alot better to drive if the hand brake worked properly but other than that no complaints for me, i had a few offs trying to get around hairpins but but found most my offs and my big boulder hug was more causedby me pushing too hard :p

So was a good close race on the OC server and i had alot of fun talking to the boys between stages thanx again all involved.

One to forget for me sadly, but I guess after my perfect run in the last championship round I was overdue some bad luck lol. Hadn't had much practice with the car before the start, but I was hoping it would drive like the Escort that was so much fun last time I drove RWD. Unfortunately it wasn't like the Escort and seemed to want to kill me several times each stage - seems the trick is to get the controls absolutely right otherwise it will chew you up and spit you out. To cut a long story short I finished all the stages but ended up with about 7 minutes worth of CFHs by the end. I'll be happy if I never have to drive that car again.

Great rally, and a brilliant battle to watch between Warren and Jeremy.

At times there was as little a .15sec between first and second. It came down to Jeremy having a big off on the night stage and lost around 16 seconds to Warren but came flying back the next stage to close the gap to 4 seconds again. On the final stage Warren was able to put in a great time that won him the rally so congrats to both for a great result and enthralling battle. It was a top night, well done to everyone and its always fun to chat to everyone on TeamSpeak between stages.

Personally once I got a feel for the car in my limited practice I really liked it though didn't get enough time on the stages to learn them properly as I was away all weekend at Rally Queensland.

I was able to get through all the stages setting some PB's along the way with only one major incident on the Japanese stage where very very early on I slid wide on the hairpin and damaged my gearbox, jamming it in first. In the end I think it ended up being a blessing in disguise because the stage was so slippery I was able to drive it flat bouncing it off the rev limiter and hardly lost much time at all.

Big thanks to Senad for setting everything up and Warren who helped me get up to speed so thanks again for all your help and advice and thanks to Jeremy for offering the replays so I can see where I am losing time. Nice to meet Chris from the UK and have another Aussie join us though we missed you in chat.

I have all my stages recorded if anyone is putting together a highlights package let me know and I'll pass them on.

Cheers Al

Had a great time! Had to call for help 1x and sure missed a couple of turns and had to back up. Drove like I was taking grandma to church. Thank theFlash for getting me into sim racing(07) and then getting me into RBR(last week).

Good times
Friday

Had a great time, even though I was off the pace of the guys up front. Just tried to keep it on the track really, having not driven the car until 15 minutes before the rally started, and really having only just started on RBR, so overall I think I didn't embarrass myself, and I had a heap of fun in the process. I'll try to get mic'd up for the next event guys, thanks to everyone especially the organizers, hopefully I'll make these events more often :)

Good times
Friday

One CFH on SS6 and then I got over confident on SS8 and killed it 400 meters from the line. The alpine was a blast to drive.

Friday it was fun getting you in the session and all the practice we did beforehand.

Thanks to everyone who put this together. See you all next week.

Wow, it's been a looong time between drinks for me to win one of these, once again it proved that the less preparation I do, the better the result. Great drives from Nigel and Jeremy too, well done guys. Rather unlucky for Nigel, I only sneaked past him on the very last Stage.

Overall, this seemed like a good Rally, despite us driving such a tricky car, which I know some people didn't exactly fall in love with. Actually, there wasn't much red ink, and the racing was quite close.

Big welcome to our new members, William and JP (sorry, don't know your first name :) ), hope to see you with us for future rallys. You sure had a tough intro with this car, it was quite a handful, even for the experienced drivers. :welcome::welcome:

Thanks to all who joined, and, again, massive kudos to Senad for organising this Rally and managing the Server and results.
Thanks also to Nigel for posting his setups, I'm sure it helped a lot of us to come to grips with this car's unique handling.

Next Rally will most likely be another Realistic Damage test run, but this time using gravel Stages, and back to a 4WD car. Hope to see you all there. :ups:

Puff, it was a very fun event, despite not being a success (;)). I tried to get some practice, but gave up after 15 minutes and just idled waiting for the start. Opening stages looked promising, but I spun on SS4, lost a lot of time, and then I just ran out of motivation on Fraizer. You all know how much I hate night stages in Club rallies (as in league you are supposed to practice, so it's not as devastating ;)). Couldn't really aim for much at that point, just took a few deep breaths and enjoyed the ride. Struggled to defend against Dariusz and lost the battle in the end, after spinning out in Finland.

Overall the car was really fantastic, because it had so much power, rather unusual (and finally realistic) in a RWD car, so you could spin those rear wheels from the start. However it was massively understeery in slower sections and that was taking a bit of fun away. Very nice event - thanks to Senad for doing pretty much everything by himself and congrats to Warren. Mr. Consistent is back at it!
