Rally - "Ageless Escort" - Mon 21st February & Tues 22nd February 2011

Here is a video of my test run through Noiker, to give a better idea of what this car is like. It is certainly very different to the usual 4WD cars in RBR and takes a bit to get the "feel" of it, but it sure is FUN.

I have never been so drained after a Rally Stage run before, it was exhausting, with lots of frantic wheel movement, I kept needing bucketloads of opposite lock  (even though it may not look like it in the video  ).

Probably not a good time, but I was happy to survive it (ok, there were a couple of restarts involved  ). I'm sure Rick (our Noiker king) or Lukasz (our RWD star) could show better how to drive this one.

This was using default setup BTW.

AND, one tip: Make sure to have your wheel well secured to the desktop, I nearly pulled mine off the desk with one of the "frantic" moments. :)

Holy oversteer, Batman, the rear end of this car has a mind of its own!

Had a really rough 'get acquainted' drive this AM. Laughable...

No sway bar adjustment on this beastie?

This car makes the Group B's look like vehicles appropriate for a high school driver's ed class...

Anyone with damper and spring tips to make this thing drivable?

I'm thinking the weak link in this chain may be the PS2 controller :(

If anyone else is using one lets share setup tips, please...

This car behaves like a drunk Duck, even a strait line is a problem lol

Hans, try to be careful not to floor the accelerator, feed it in more gradually. Also, try short shifting it a bit, especially if the tail has started to let go under full power.
It does seem to require good throttle control, but with practice you should get the feel of it.

I love your attitude Hans, and your tenacity. This car gave me lots of problems when I first tested it this week, but once I started to get the feel for driving it differently, I grew to love it (well sort of, I love a challenge).

You have to remember that this is an older, low technology car, but still a reasonably powerful Rally Car. It is RWD on gravel, so getting the rear wheels to grip and not spin is the trick.
One problem can be when you get a "tank slapper" happening (continually over-correcting and weaving across the road), which is easy in this car. In this case, try backing off the power, get it settled again, and drive off as smoothly as you can.

BTW, I'm no expert on this car either, still trying to work out how to keep it pointing the right way. :rabbit:

Bah, the shop still hasn't mailed me about the wheel

So I can either do this rally with my crippled old one, which is missing a shifter paddle, or I can do it with a new one I will have zero miles with :D

Well I can hardly drive the thing but two other folks in the US session so I need to do it.

That's the spirit :D I haven't ran the Japan stages yet, but the only one I really have to be careful with is Finland, though my first run on snow I was grinning from ear to ear, these things are a riot.
