Our next Rally is open for sign-up.

This one will be quite different, but a lot of fun. It will certainly appeal to our RWD jockeys, gravel lovers, and those who love the older classic cars.
Last year we drove the old Escort Mk1, so this time we take on it’s slightly younger (and more powerful) brother, the Escort Mk2. This car has been a true Rally Classic, with most of the top WRC drivers cutting their teeth in these, and they are still very popular today in most forms of rallying throughout the world.

This car is a true RWD car, so it’s handling and driving characteristics are very different, but it is a ton of fun to drive. You can throw it around with confidence, but be careful when tramping the throttle, the rear end can get very loose and squirrily. Also, the turns need to be controlled by the throttle, the handbrake won’t work in these cars unfortunately.
I’d recommend that all drivers give it at least a brief test run to get acquainted with it before the Rally.

We have chosen mostly gravel Stages for this one, so you can have fun throwing the tail around, and mostly selected the longer, open, more flowing stages to best suit the old girl. However, there are two surface changes. We start with a normal Snow Stage ( I tested this and it can be fun with a careful right foot), and end with a surprise new Tarmac Mod Stage in Japan (I also tested this and was amazed at how good it was), just for a bit of all round variety.

Weather will vary, but nothing too difficult.

DRIVER BRIEFING NOTES:

1. The car handling of this old girl is quite different to the WRC cars. It’s not as quick, RWD, and can get quite slidey. You can be aggressive with it though.
2. RBR Pacenotes are designed for default cars, Normal conditions and Good weather. Please remember to adjust your speeds to suit these cars.
3. Tyre selections are the drivers responsibility. If you use the automatic tyre selection option in RSRBR2011, please beware that sometimes it may give you the wrong tyre for the conditions. Always double check your tyres, it is critical.

If requests are made for any additional timezones, or changes to Start times to better suit your local needs, we will try to include them ( but within the Monday/Tuesday periods).

There are a number of nice car skins available for this car to add variety, all using the Skin manager to make switching easy. Check out the skins available here:

Good luck all, I hope you have as much fun with this car as I expect, and hope we see a good roll up. :rally:

Here is a little promo video to give you an idea of the various liveries available for download:

And of course, the REAL Thing:

BTW, if anyone is doing any test runs, I'd be interested in feedback re SS08, Sipirkakim with tarmac mod.

I rather liked it, it was refreshing to discover a default Stage with tarmac mod that wasn't rough, excessively bumpy, and wasn't full of tight hairpins. It seemed to suit the Escort too.

This may be a really good equalizer rally. No diff magic, just suspension mods and driving. Hope to put in some time for preparation.

May I request a Tuesday 10:45 GMT time yet again? :)

I owe you a beer, Warren...
