RaceRoom Racing Experience: Top quality online racing starts next week

RaceRoom Racing Experience RaceDepartment Racing Club.jpg

With the dedicated servers having been released last night we are now preparing to kickstart daily club races with RaceRoom Racing Experience.

RaceDepartment will be running a set schedule on a single track per week, starting with Bathurst Mount Panorama next week and you are most welcome to be the first to sing up for those events in R3E Racing Club & Leagues forum.

The weekly schedule will start like this:
  • Mondays: WTCC
  • Tuesdays: ADAC GT
  • Wednesdays: WTCC
  • Thursdays: DTM 13/14
  • Fridays: WTCC
  • Saturdays: Group 5
  • Sundays: DTM '92
The keen eyed (or the not completely blind) will notice that there's a lot of WTCC while several other classes are not represented at all, and this is no accident. We expect WTCC to be one of the most popular series within R3E, if for nothing else for the fact that this content sets R3E apart from other games.

It is also a series that laid the foundation of this community many moons ago with the RACE Series and fits the casual club racing spirit well with cars that are a bit easier to handle (but still difficult to master!) and tends to offer extremely close online racing.

The schedule is however subject to changes in the future based on your precious feedback of course.

The races start at the following times and follow this format;
  • Practice: 19:00 GMT - 60 mins
  • Qualifying: 20:00 GMT - 15 mins
  • Race: 20:15 GMT - 45 mins
For the remainder of this week we will be running some open events on our servers free for everybody, so please join us and help us stress test these servers!

Ladies and Gentlemen start your engines!

Looks like some people dislike 45 minutes races. Personally that's when I start getting warmed up. Since I am not the fastest on track the more strategy in a race the better for me. Sprint races simply do not allow for the kind of strategy that can equalize talent on track.

May I make a humble proposition? A sprint race (20 to 30 min.) and a main race of 45 to 90min. Of course, not all classes lend themselves to longer races, but for those that do, it would probably make everyone happy.

Personally, I'd love R3e to have night/day and weather like the old GTR2 and do 2 hour races. Yes, it was tiring as hell (and in our league the first and last race of the season was longer, usually SPA and LeMans) but at the end you felt good no matter where you finished.

If Sector3 finally add WTCC rules I see no reason to not adopt the WTCCs sprint format for those races. Longer races for the GT cars, however, are fine (perhaps mandatory pitstop and two race format as well?)

Also, how are we on tracks? I personally already have all the tracks (woo), but R3E is setup in such a way that buying loads of stuff at once is a lot cheaper then buying things piecemeal, so thinking carefully about wot tracks we will run ought to be prudent.

Opinions and feedback are noted, I'm not going to change next weeks races at this point in time (unless we run into a really good reason to do so), but as mentioned in the OP we WILL be listening to your feedback and are open to changing the format if we feel it makes sense.

Hopefully:)

Some time ago I was going to volunteer to work for the US races (any sim really), but then my wife's heart condition got worse and I have been too busy to commit. Even racing can be hard. However, if there is a way to have a small group of US racers collaborate to make sure we can cover for each other in case of need, I may be able to commit a bit more. I just cannot be the only one.

Sorry to hear that about your wife, hope she gets better my friend. What needs to be done to put on a race

Thank you. It has been a struggle. Lots of trips to the ER.

I am actually not sure how the protocol works here at RD for organizing races. SOmeone has to have admin privileges, the know how to set up the server and be available to do other tasks.

I had actually proposed to have a US user forum at some point, where we could at least discuss US time zone related issues and do some sort of roll call. But the RD folks didn't think it was a good idea and after all it is their site. Maybe it didn't work in the past, but I think the hobby is larger now and anything like that needs to be carried for some time before it can be deemed a failure.

I actually don't work a 9 to 5 job and if I wanted to I could race in the European time zone, but if I race in the morning then I know the rest of the day would be a waste, so I prefer to race weekdays after 6PST and on weekends after noon as I like to sleep in and take care of my wife in the moprnings

Im pretty sure Emilio will set up some US times, so i guess we should be patient and see what happens:)

Only change i would like to see is the group 5 and ADAC GT switched around.GT racing on Saturday just seems right, plus you could consider an endurance length race then also, say 90 min or so and multiclass would be fun with the protos and gt's.45 minutes is a nice length for most races though.

Check out Steam group ESR for US time zone friendly events.
We will most likely be hosting US races within short, but to do so we need people who are willing to dedicate the time and effort it takes to manage a club, incidently it seems easier to find people who complain about there being no US races than it is finding someone who are willing to step up to the plate and do the dirtywork. :)
