Race Department Forum Racing Season 8 Preview

jerez-jerez-de-la-frontera.jpg

The new Forum Racing rules means that all of the teams are desperate to shakedown their cars, and so couldn't be more raring to go when the Jerez test day came around. Williams send both of their drivers, as do Ferrari and Renault. Jordan send one driver, and so do Jaguar, McLaren, Minardi and Arrows. As they yet have no drivers, BAR and new team Toyota. Due to finanical issues, Jordan only get half a day's racing, and Sauber miss the whole thing. Will they make the start of the season?

Lap Record: Heinz Harold Frentzen- 1:23.135. (1997)

At the start of the session, the drivers had to find their feet with their new cars. The Ferrari driver's soon found their place however, Garry Pullen posting a 1:26.4 and Respati a slightly slower 1:26.6. Nothing too special but definetly good to be going on with. Only Matthew Gutteridge turned up to the test session for McLaren and after taking a while to bed his car in posts an initial 1:26.2. For Jaguar, Honk seems to be focusing more on setup than real pace, only managing a 1:31.8. The Real surprise however were the Williams' and the Minardi's, Ben Tusting popping a 1:25.9, Rhys Gardiner a 1:26.2, matching Gutteridge's McLaren, and the Minardi a magnificant 1:26.5, a tenth QUICKER than Respati's Ferrari! Duivilaar and Pedersen's Renault don't set times, after a communication error sent them to the test day without a car, meaning they miss the first half of the session. bduddy's Arrows also doesn't set a time whilst the simulator tests the media's concerns of engine reliability. Due to Jordan's financial issues, they miss the first half of the test day.

~Timing Sheets (Halfway through the session)~

1) Ben Tusting (Williams)- 1:25.954
2) Matthew Gutteridge (McLaren)- 1:26.246
3) Rhys Gardiner (Williams)- 1:26.278
4) Garry Pullen (Ferrari)- 1:26.429
5) Marcus Probert (Minardi)- 1:26.541
6) Resi Respati (Ferrari)- 1:26.693
7) Honk (Jaguar)- 1:31.888

With five minutes to go everybody left the pits for their final fast runs. Jordan turn up for the session, and with all car parts avaliable, and the engine concerns disproven, everyone is able to post a time. First up is Peter Duivilaar, who nearly loses the back end at the Senna Chicane, but pops in a worthy 1:26.6. that could've been a perhaps a second quicker if he hadn't made that mistake Matthew Gutteridge and Garry Pullen leave at the same time, Gutteridge just getting out ahead, and posts a 1:25.4, only a ocuple of tenths ahead of Pullen, who scores a 1:25.6. Probert's Minardi almost managed to jump Pullen's Ferrari, but a lock up at Turn Thirteen costs him seven tenths. Out next is Niels Pedersen who is certainly on the pace, but it hit with a barrage of oversteer than leaves him in the gravel and unable to set a time.

The first of the on-form Williams cars to set a lap was Rhys Gardiner, and he didn't dissapoint, A 1:25.3 set him provisional fastest. But not for long, Ben Tusting hooks everything up perfectly and gets a 1:25.0. The Arrows of bduddy was on the pace, but a lock up at turn five sent him into the wall and out of the session. Viljar Parts had an error stricken lap that sent his lap-time plummeting, a poor 1:28.6 was all he could muster. Honk struggled to hook his car up over one lap and only could pop in a 1:27.3. A great one-two for Williams surely puts them in good stead for the start of the season

~Final Timing Sheets~

1) Ben Tusting- 1:25.059
2) Rhys Gardiner- 1:25.335
3) Matthew Gutteridge- 1:25:437
4) Garry Pullen- 1:25:643
5) Resi Respati- 1:25:907
6) Marcus Probert- 1:26:446
7) Peter Duivilaar- 1:26:698
8) Honk- 1:27:309
9) Viljar Parts- 1:28:608

Now Time for my Season Preview (All of this asuming that no-one else signs up)

And after a sucessful 2001, the 2002 F1 world championship brings a new team, and a totally revised Driver line-up. Not even World Champion from 2000 and 2001 Michael Schumacher has been retained.

With 18 drivers on the grid, you can bet your bottom dollar that Season 8 of Forum Racing will be a great one :)

ferrari.gif
Ferrari
  • Garry Pullen
  • Resi Respati
Luca di Montelemazilo has (like everyone else) suprised everyone by sacking both of his drivers and opting for two experienced Forum Racers.

Resi Respati has been up and down the championship over the years, and so, despite being the most fourth most raced man on the grid, is still something of an unknown. Garry Pullen on the other hand is a cert to be right up there, but recently has hit a bleak spot on the track, can he and Resi turn it around together. My predition: Yes. (Championship Prediction- 3rd)

jordan.gif
Jordan
  • Viljar Parts
  • Bert Van Waes
Eddie Jordan played a wild card by signing unknown rookie Viljar Parts. Viljar has entered the current season as an independant and all of the signs show that Eddie has really won big here. Viljar will be partnered with one-time forum racer Bert Van Waes. If they can turn up to the races, I wouldn't bet against a victory or two. Ones to watch out for. (Championship Prediction 5th)

mclaren.gif
McLaren
  • Matthew Gutteridge
  • David Buxton
Ron Dennis once again proving he's no ameuter in the transfer market, has snapped up two-time champion David Buxton with one-hit wonder Matthew Gutteridge. David has recently however struggled to turn up to races, and Matthew is a little bit rusty having missed most of this season's races due to him helping the FIA in running Forum Racing, but if those problems can be sorted, then Ron's brilliance may once again shine through. Prost and Senna? Not a hope. (Championship Prediction= 2nd)

-bV-2.gif
Arrows
  • bduddy

If ever there was someone that deserved to win in Forum Racing, it was bduddy. A great trier, bduddy has recently struck lucky for the first time, and is definetly one of the most consistant drivers out there. Without a team-mate, he will struggle to win the constructors, but will definetly be one of the most formidable one-man teams (Championship Prediction- 9th)

minardi.gif
Minardi
  • Marcus Probert
  • Riccardo Rosset (R)

Paul Stoddart strikes lucky finally! Marcus Probert joins the team as one of the most sucessful forum racers in their debut season and member of the dominant PnP racing. Riccardo Rosset is an unknown, but if his Pitstopboss form is anything to go by, he's a massive threat. (Championship Prediction- 4th)

renault.gif
Renault
  • Niels Pedersen
  • Peter Duivelaar

Flavio Briatorie has scored again. Dominant Forum Racer Niels Pedersen partnered with his closest Championship rival, veteran Peter Duivilaar, will surely become a dominant partnership. Rivals McLaren and Ferrari will push them, but I think they just have the edge. Flavio 1:0 Everyone Else. (Championship Prediction- Champions)

sauber.gif
Sauber
  • Kyle Evers (R)
  • Sebastien Levret
The Swiss Sauber outfit recruit rookies Kyle Evers and Seb Levret to their ship. Their skill is yet unknown, but letting Sauber down is not an option. Could they pull off a surprise? I wouldn't bet against it. (Championship Prediction- 8th)

williams.gif
Williams
  • Ben Tusting
  • Rhys Gardiner

Frank Williams tempts Ben Tusting out of a semi-retirement and into a Williams, to partner new boy and Herman Tilke in the making, Rhys Gardiner. Ben has competed for the championship before, so he Rhys and Frank will be hoping for a repeat. Rhys is an unknown, but betting against him would be foolish. (Championship Prediction- 7th)

jaguar.gif
Jaguar

  • Dave Stephenson
  • Honk
Two old hands, Honk and Dave Stephenson both make their Forum Racing comback in a Jaguar. Both have shown promise before, and Niki Lauda will be hoping for a big return but is it possible? I say: Yes (Championship Prediction- 6th)

toyota.gif
Toyota

New team Toyota have yet to release a statment regarding drivers but several drivers have claimed they are in talks

bar.gif
B.A.R

The season is almost begun, and yet no one applies for BAR. Only time will tell... As with Toyota, several teams claim to be speaking to BAR.

~Round One~

~Albert Park, Australia~

f1.aus.gif

Laps:58

Round One of 2002 takes us to Albert Park in Austalia. This is only the 7th time that the F1 circus has been to the Albert park circuit and it's already touched our hearts. Albert Park also gives the small constructors and new drivers the chance to get some points on the board. There is no more fitting place to start the new Forum Racing format.

~Past Winners~

1996: Damon Hill
1997: David Coulthard
1998: Mika Hakkionen
1999: Eddie Irvine
2000: Michael Schumacher
2001: Michael Schumacher

The Jerez testing was a big joke for Renault, having a night out the evening before, everyonne was a bit hammered, and where partly still drunk. Fellow racer duivelaar had a big laugh by himself, he was found by the pit crew, taking a piss in teammember Niels Pedersens racer. :)

lol Niels

And added Sebastian into Sauber.

Sebastian, Rules are much more simpler than before mate :)

when i start a sprint race, you will come and say just " finish ".

If i start a feature race, you will say " start " wait 1 hour then say " pit " 1 more hour and say " finish "

It's just that simple. :thumb:
