R3E Porsche 911 Career 964 2.jpg

Sector3 Studios have confirmed the stunning Porsche 911 Carrera 964 will be arriving in RaceRoom Racing Experience very soon indeed.

Having secured a licencing agreement with the historic German brand last year, Sector3 Studios have slowly but surely been drip feeding some of the most iconic models from the marque into the sim over the last few months, and with at least three additional cars still to materialise, the Swedish developers have confirmed one with be the classic 911 Carrera (964)!

Having been very much in the thick of things during the early 1990's, the 964 is a race proven thoroughbred motorsport icon, one of the most popular and engaging cars of a long line of iconic racing machines from the Stuttgart marque.

Having spent five years as the car of choice for the Porsche Carrera Cup between 1990 and 1994, this is a very significant motor from the brand, and it is certainly pleasing to see it head to RaceRoom Racing Experience as a new DLC in the near future.

The car will be included as part of the upcoming big patch update, and is set to contain 25 unique race liveries from throughout the history of the category.

Exact release date and price have yet to be revealed, so stay tuned to find out over the coming days...

I still race on Raceroom quite a bit and still enjoy it.

There's something quite nice about knowing that you don't have to worry about lots of mods or tracks and compatibility issues. You can just race with what you've got and not worry. I race a lot on RF2 so I'm not moaning just comparing but I lost two hours the other night trying to convince RF2 to let me join a server. Partly my own fault for not testing ahead of time but you see what I mean :)

Also although this is a DX9 engine game it still looks (too me) really lovely. The detail (especially on the tracks) show a real labour of love by the Sector3 team and I appreciate that. It also means I can run at 4k with tonnes of cars and it runs like a dream, lol :) The audio is still one of the best too.

The one thing I've learnt from Sector3 is when they go quiet for some time it usually means they are working on something behind the scenes so will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months.

I agree that the damage model needs work (but I think based on experience they are developing it further without mentioning it in their release notes). If your main priority is graphics, rain, night, weather transitions and shiny special effects, look elsewhere. If you desire a fantastic single player experience, R3E is tops with AMS, the AI is stellar in both of these games, far beyond others (IMHO). RF2 is a close third (used to be first, but AMS and R3E are now better in my experience). I have all the usual suspects (AC, ACC, R3E, RF2, PC2, AMS). I usually switch between AC, RF2, R3E, AMS (sometimes PC2) based on the car/track combo I want to drive.

Tbh, the AI piss me off in RRE because their braking ability is much higher than yours, so if you brake at the same brakepoint, you just smash into the back of them. It does mean you can divebomb the hell out of them but it always feels like a pretty cheap pass.

Yeah, i totally agree. Fantastic game, sometimes let down by over zealous AI just rear ending you out of nowhere in a braking zone. Aggressive doesnt quite cut it!!! It might just be my driving style but because of this single seaters are a no no for me, i just get wrecked. Touring Cars are good fun though!! :)

It has been said many times (where's that "AI slider" guy? :D), but if you find you're coming into the contact with the AI too often, it's usually because you have set it wrong for your driving abilities. Train the adaptive AI appropriately and your experience will improve significantly.

(Edit: Ah, there he is! ;) )

If only either the game would be fixed so it would start or at the very least customer support would answer on official support tickets …

I have opened a support ticket last year (yes, you rad that right) as all that sweet content I bought is completely inaccessible as R3E crashes on start with a cryptic failure message.

I would love to purchase the two Porsche DLC cars but I cannot !?

Very strange company that is.
Try reinstalling the game or deleting your local data folder, it's in Documents or Documents/My Games sorry don't recall exactly. I think the folder has "simbin" in the name. Backup any controller profiles you've created there first though. Also what is the cryptic error message you receive?

Would be nice to actually see the game move forward with new and improved feature instead of just new content all the time. I gave up on r3e a while ago and will not buy more content until they actually move the game forward.
i hate to say it but i kinda agree. I loved RaceRoom and i'm hard pressed to find anyone with more time invested than me, a massive 2800 hours in 2 years. But the game started to feel boring, i'd buy new content, race it for a week when its popular and that was the last id see of them. i started to realise i needed more than new cars and tracks to keep my interested.

Now if they came out with a new GTE class id more than likely buy it but knowing full well that id be over it in a few weeks. Dont get me wrong new content is great, i just need more. A new car M8 just came out in iRacing and im in no rush to get it cus the experience i have with other cars is already great and getting better with new features.

So how does the adaptive AI work?! Sounds interesting.

Thanks for the input - I have done that several times already.
Here is the last thread I opened about the problem: https://www.racedepartment.com/threads/reinstalled-raceroom-constant-crash-on-loading-screen.162980/

The major issue really is that Sector3 has both an incredibly convoluted support ticket system AND apparently with some customers they are completely unresponsive. Even in the case one gets a reaction (I once did a couple of years ago) it takes often weeks (!) before one hears from them.

By then many users already went through wasting hours and hours online researching the issue, sometimes not finding solutions leading to kicking R3E off their computers.

Trying to run R3E can be really frustrating, which is why I completely lost any incentive of dealing with this broken software. It is not a great loss though - our choices in excellent racing sims these days are just too good ;-)

I opened a ticket through the Raceroom webshop (there is a support section with a web based ticket submission section) as I am on way too many forums already I did not want to sign up to yet another forum.

I belive ACC is the new leader in terms of audio

ACC sound is great and a definite challenger for best sound, also rF2 made huge improvements with recent content (GT3 pack sounds very sexy IMO), but Raceroom still sets the bar for me in terms of overall best sound.

Always excited by new R3E content and the last Porsche was a handful so I will probably pick this up too.

But I agree with a few others here about needing to modernise the Sim (Weather,night/day cycle, graphics etc.) but i still love Raceroom, some of my best sim experiences have come from that game. It is just starting to tail off to other more modern sims in my opinion.

Tbh, I couldn't care less for the graphics of the game if they do the job and if the performance is good enough. I still play AMS on a regular base and the experience is still sensational with a deep driving experience, decent offline possibilities and consistent quality content across all different kinds of motorsport througout the decades, and all over the world. It simply feels dynamic and organic wich is pretty nice. The last time I played R3E it felt ok too, but AI was a big problem and I simply miss alot of the stuff that I like in AMS and rF2. If Sector 3 produced some decent period tracks for the historic content I would propably buy some stuff though. Or they atleast should give some of the tracks a historic face lift. Looking at the schedule for the 93 season, there were some nice tracks on the calendar. Old Spa with old Busstop, Hockenheim with the long straights or historic Imola are just a few examples. Knowing the track artists from S3, they could pull that off easily.
Always found that the variety and amount of top quality tracks was one of the strongest points of this title.

Graphics and AI are the least of there problems as they hold up compared to other titles, where they really lack features are the tire model, track tech, damage model, time of day and dedicated servers.....not to mention dx9 holding back vr performance.
At least its good to know that you can ofcourse adjust the tire pressure:)

ACC and rF2 (the latest official cars) both have great audio, but I feel like Raceroom still tops them when it comes to the overall mix and "feel" of the audio. ACC sounds really weird to me, all those loud creaks and thumps and thuds and all that seem way too loud and "inappropriate" (for the lack of the better word) - hit a curb and it all sounds like the car is about to explode, like its wheels are solidly attached to the body with no suspension or anything. It all feels as if I'm driving a tank (even when not driving the Bentley, I mean), plus the high amount of reverbation also strengthens those impressions. RF2, on the other hand, seems to have almost none of that ambience, even though the engine sounds quite nice and only slightly artificial at times or with some cars.

Raceroom, however, strikes a perfect balance between the two.

But then again I obviously have never driven a GT3 car, so maybe the ACC sound is correct and Raceroom is wrong. I just go by assumptions and what it *feels* like to me.

I was pretty bummed out when they removed the « experience » option from the menu. It was a good option for DTM and ADAC GT series. I know it’s possible to do it myself with the custom championship menu, but I just don’t understand why it was removed.
