R3E Club multi-race suggestion

Lars Hansen

Buggered if I know.....
Saw this concept on another sim-racing site, and figured I'd throw it out there and see what people think.
It'll work for either the GTR3s or the ADACs (might be possible for the WTCCs as well).

Anyway, the basic idea is that whenever we do GTs people always turn up in the same cars.
I've got my McLaren, Keith trundles around in his Teutonic AMG, and most everybody else turns up in the Audi.
So, in order to 'force' people to try something else once in a while, the most popular car will be eliminated for each race.
E.g. the GTR3s currently have the Mclaren, the AMG, the R8, the Z4, the Camaro and the Alpina, so it'll be a six-race cycle.
So in the first race, 4 guys show up in the Audi. Which is great, but that means that for the next 5 races the Audi can't be selected.
Second race, the Z4 is the most popular, so that gets cut next.
And so on, and so forth. (if two cars are equally popular, the one that finishes highest gets cut.)
Until the last race, which will be a single-make race by default.
And then we'll start over again.
Which makes for an interesting pre-race decision.
If there's a car you hate, do you pick it early and hope others do as well to get it cut, or do you never pick it and hope it'll get cut before you have to use it?

Whether or not we should make this a mini-championship as well is something else to consider.
But I don't want this to turn into anything 'serious' with reserve-lists and what-not.
If you can race that particular day, great. If not, you don't score any points, but you're more than welcome to race again the next week.

There is a couple of cons against this however.
First, it requires a six-race dedication from the participants.
Obviously nobody HAS to do all six races, but it does make it more fun.

Second, and perhaps more importantly, it requires that the participants actually have all the cars available. You might get lucky and have the cars you don't own cut before you need to drive them, but the odds are against it. Not a big problem with the ADACs, but it might be an issue with the GTR3s.

So, what do you guys think?
So far it's just a vague idea rummaging around it what passes for my mind these days.
Still need to decide when (and where) the races are to be held, points-system and so forth.
Just figured I'd gauge interest before doing anything further.
If there's any interest, I'll be happy to organize and run it, assuming we can get Kenny to set up the servers for us.

ahem....why do I have an italian man yelling crap into my ear, while I am at the game menu? Is that part of the game now? or do I have Italian Midget porn open in another tab?

Need to do something to boost online support for the races.

1) The 2 race tracks I dislike the most seem to always be on top. Depending on time of day.
Raceroom Raceway
Portimao

2) Spec series?
Porsche GT3 cup?
Mercedes SLS championship?
Heavenly Corvettes?

Re. the times I don't really care one way or another. Granted, the one-hour shift does make it easier for me, but it's not a game-breaker.
However, if we do move it forward to 1900GMT I would suggest that we cut down on the practice period. People can always practice on the server beforehand if necessary.
The point is that I work as a mailman, so my alarm-clock starts doing its thing at 5am. With 1900GMT races there's 30m practice, 15m qualy, 30-40m races, and then the post-race follow-up on TS.
It's not un-doable, but it is cutting it a bit close.
Especially if anyone expects me to be semi-coherent. :D

Well, if we set up the server for the next race immediately after we're done, that'll give people plenty of opportunity to practice.
So if that means we can go straight to qualy, I have no problems with a 1900GMT start.
But again, I'm one guy. If the majority wants full practice with a 1900GMT start, I'll find a way to make it work.
Unilateral decisions on my part will have to wait until I've taken over the world.
(Which is currently a work in progress.....Well, work at any rate....Progress is a little harder to come by. :D )
