Question | What Motorsport / Sim Racing Themed Gifts Did You Get For Xmas?

Decided on last monday to gift me a crappy Fanatec SE Shifter :) (still due but today it will come home to daddy) to complete my Fanatec crap. Eons ago at the beginning I had Windows Sidewinder Crap, changed to Logitech crap for many years and now I'm quiet happy with my Fanatec crap, as I finally had the money to get it (and btw. many simboys here still only can dream of that crap) The service (btw.) was good on my side so far (while it's overrated crap- did I mention ?) and like the consumers mood, psychadelic adds and the fashion goes Heusinkvelt, Simcube and whatnot will be considered overrated crap soon , and some very new and shiny superhighendsomethingsomething under the sun won't be worthy as well, until the industry managed to sell us crapless hardware not under 1000 bucks per piece - and we will still not be satisfied with it. But, hey, after that, all will go down the drain anyway....yeah, lads, sometimes it's very tough to remain a healthy member of the western capitalist hemisphere...cause nothing ,no, nothing will be good enough for us - ever... ;)

Fanatec is based in socialist Germany selling goods made in communist China. Not sure what capitalism has to do with it. But I guess according to your logic, when I buy something new for over $1,000 and it's DOA, then have to wait 6 weeks to get it back from REPAIR, not replacement, all the while arguing with the manufacturer that they even need to fix it at all when they should have simply sent me a new one, I'll just be happy with the outcome, whatever that is. Because to be annoyed by this is simply not right and an evil, capitalist mindset. Once I got the CSL Elite base back after 6 weeks, it lasted a few more months, then died again. After contacting Fanatec about it, they said they can't cover it because it's now out of warranty. Huh? But, I do err in commenting on forums in the first place. Because once you do, it's inevitable that you will always get a totally idiotic response.
BTW: I bought an LG tv a few months back and it died also. Won't power on. Got it 'warranty repaired.' Not replaced. Got it back, lasted a few months, then the colors went berserk and the thing is useless. I bought a new TV to replace it. But I think I will get the broken LG and put it back on the wall and use it. Because, you know, it's the right thing to do. I need to just be happy, as you say. I will then take the working new TV I bought and just give it to a homeless person on the street as a gift. It's the right thing to do. Clearly, you would do this. Oh, and I just received an email from the retailer of the TV asking me to leave a review. I will give the LG five stars. Perfect. To speak of poor workmanship and service would just not be nice. And capitalist.

PGSM, I have a Thrustmaster wheel, which was a company born in the USof A. However that Socialist Frenchie company Guillimot(sp?) bought out the 'Merican company a long time ago. Any exchange of capital for goods or services is, in some form, Capitalism. Even the Chinese and Ruushkies practice modified forms of capitalism, albeit under the boot of Communism.(yes I said it, Ruushia is Communist still)
I play World of Warships a-lot, created by a Russian company that is at least partially owned by one of those Oligiarchs that are sanctioned by the USofA and other countries. So all my paltry DLC purchases go to a bank in Cypress to avoid said sanctions.
finally, even here, in the Land of the Free, the S word has crept into almost all aspects of society. Now please excuse me, I have to go wait for the postman and hope he brings my Social Security check before New Years.

And the point is? I didn't bring up the argument. Merely stated how Fanatec sucks.

An epiphany at 4:20 in the morning! For countless days/hours I struggled getting the graphics clear in RaceRoom without Z-fighting to no avail. A cup of coffee, and some odd adjustment I never thought of, and RaceRoom was crystal clear at 5:00 that same morning. Santa works in strange ways. :)
Care to share? I see this has come up in numerous posts.

Sry for the irony (at your cost) :) as it was a more general comment on the usual consumers appoach in our capitalistic society, namely to have the opportuniy to buy a lotta fancy stuff (which not neccessarily will make you happy or happier eventually) and on the downside the constant often outrageous teasing to get you buying that fancy stuff of which at least 30% is indeed crap because the snowball principle of "eternal growth" forces producers to sell more and more variants of the same product series by a growing customers demand, which imo has a negative effect on the product quality. My responsibillity as a consumer is then to hold a balance between my true (also non-material) need and my true greed :) which I constantly do (I could be absolutely happy with even half of the stuff I'm already owning). And yes I also noticed that Fanatec seems to fall under that spell of poor quality through higher demand = higher production = sloppy customers service in result.

As for the shifter I got now, I'm slightly disappointed tbh, while from a first impression it appears sturdy - which is why I actually expected silk-smooth shifter mechanics with a good response - it feels stiff but ramshackle all the same and on top I have the impression that they sent me an already used one (return delivery ?). But the best is that I can't calibrate it it, simply doesn't work , followed all steps, even reinstalled drivers and firmware and whatnot. I got the Thrustmaster TH8 Shifter ( back on my rig now) and was happy with it - a simple piece of metal that does what it should, just wanted to have something to easily shift between sequential and H-pattern, but for the double amount of money the Fanatec shifter appears like crap to me now. Just has a shiny metal ass (like Bender :D ).

Will send it back immediately and hopefully get my money in return....:cautious:

My mother's pretty fond of the older consoles, so she unexpectedly got me a brand new still-wrapped copy of Test Drive Le Mans for the Dreamcast. This wasn't even on my radar, but seeing as it's got mid-session saves, adjustable time lengths all the way up to the proper full 24 hours, and a fine selection of circuits with day/night cycles, I'm pretty stoked to try it! Plus, the late 90's / early 2000's racing aesthetic is still my favorite in most disciplines.

I'm more than happy to share @Zytok I am using an Nvidia 1070 with a 50 inch screen in 'Game Mode'. 4096 X 2160 @60Hz. Full screen Vsync on, and an FOV of 1X.

First thing I did was set the graphics in RaceRoom to MEDIUM, not High. Then I adjusted the graphics as the screenshots below show.

Then in Nvidia Control I set these parameters. Please note to use ENHANCE, and not Overide. I hope this helps someone out, as it looks and drives wonderfully on my end.

Excellent stuff though 4K+and 8xSS is a bit rich for my setup so I've duplicated your settings with 1080P and it looks beautiful. OK, not quite up to ACC or AC SOL standards but more than enough for me. There is a certain natural tone to RRRE which I like and the trees and grass are not neon like AC and PCars so I'm liking this alot.

But you used the framework of Socialism and Capitalism to complain how a small company's product sucked. So I merely used the same framework to show how a large company had bought out a small company, which USUALLY results in lower quality as well. I did have some Quality control issues with their power bricks but after 3 returns I finally got one that has survived close to 2 years now.
