Power & Glory v3.x

YC0hFU4.png

We know GTR2 gathers little attention at RD but we think it's worth announcing the Power&Glory v3 release. This follows a previous "presentation" with details, screens and video previews, posted in HERE.
We hope the content we've build can surprise for the positive also those that were already discarding it in favour of more recent titles.

It's been a long adventure developing Power&Glory. We started working on the first demo and version 1 back in late 2006, we continued working hard through version 2 in following years, and then on version 3 from March 2009. That's a lot of time for a free mod (even for a big project like this one is) and we had many issues that are common for many modding teams these days - lack of free time, real world issues, voodoo type of issues, lack of more team members, you name it... we faced them all.

We never gave up and what you're now able to download and savour is the result of pure passion for simracing, admiration for vintage real racing and respect for our Motorsport heroes.

A total mod of 2.30+ GB of compressed data, and over 3.9GB when installed, featuring completely redesigned User Interface, 59 .aud sound configuration files and 1153 sound samples made from scratch, 373 .car files with tons of skins and history described, 199 .hdc specific physics files, you'll find it difficult to drive to identical cars, 125 .tyr different tire files all balanced and proportioned to one another, in-game setup tire help manuals, improved collisions and multiplayer, improved force feedback and tons of incredible details on the 3D models and skins of the cars, every one of it painstakingly documented and verified from homogenization papers, era magazines, books original service manuals and help from mechanics of the era and actual drivers.

Without further ado, we are informing all past, present and potential future fans that the P&G version 3 development has come to the end! A monumental amount of work, free for you to download, drive and immerse yourself a bit in the lives of our 60s and 70s driving heroes.

Enjoy! :)

Weren't there some historic club events using these here before? Perhaps there's interest in renewing that, a third historic event.

Yes there were, but they ended up being poorly-supported and occasionally 'buggy'. I know GTR2 can sometimes be a bit temperemental when playing online, but i hope P&G3 sorts this out. It would be good to have a couple of club events just to see how we get on with it, and changeable weather adds a bit of spice to the mix.

At the moment i still think GTL is better, i find the handling of the cars in P&G3 to be less predictable than GTL's. Although it's still fun, it's less easy to lap consistently. I think perhaps i need more time to get my head around the physics before saying anything else, but undoubtedly the car models and some of the sounds are tremendous. However, i found the vehicle handling quite strange in P&G2, so it may just be me that's the problem. (not for the first time)

From what I have read elsewhere, the GTR2 On-Line "bugginess" remains, not much they could do about it since it uses the GTR2 base code.

There are a few tips to help get it more stable over at NoGrip.

Half of the problems with GTR2 was extra cars and skins that people had in there folders... every body had to have exactly the same in there folders or it might/could cause problems...(public servers can be a nightmare)
There are some good reports coming back that as long as your running only P&G3 without any extra mods or extra skins, it running ok its stable...(or as stable as GTR2 was when done correctly )
If we was to run a RD club event it might be a good idea to for every body who want to race to have only P&G3 installed nothing else...I would even go as far a saying only use default tracks to start with..And only the mod track for the club event in the folder as extra
The other problem was entering the rooms and quitting to change your car...(this is a simple cure..enter with the car of choice and stick to it...)

It may have the same cars as GTL but its totally different in respect to the cars feel and handle ...(it feels to me more firm in the FFB and physics like GTR evo from race07 series
the FFB is very strong in feel but there is a good feel of the weight transfer of the car and you can feel what the tyres are doing
I still turn it down to low and have it between 75 to 90% in game
( this low setting was also favoured by one of the devs)
It seems its a sim/mod that can be easy to drive first of but hard to master/go faster when you start pushing.. but if you get it right it feels really good..

All the cars have really been worked on great detail getting the best out of them and the sounds of the game are fantastic really deep and full, It sounds great through my headphones
there are a few bugs that have cropped up but they are going to be addressed and the guys have a list of them over at NoGrip.

I don't think it will make me stop with GTL but it does give it a good run for its money
and with the extra options of GTR2 it makes for a refreshing change..

I have been a big fan of the P&G mod for a long time and this in my opinion is allot better than 2.1
Overall im very happy with it and it must be a strong contender for mod of the year if not a sim in it own rights...

Absolutely fantastic mod (driving since version 1). Many thanks to developers for their hard and amazing work!
Had a blast today driving against AI. However, I honestly hope very much if we could have some race events/championships here.

This is extremely interesting. :) Good idea!
But let's face it... without the incredible job that SIMBIN did for GTR2 and GTL, mods like Power&Glory v3 would have never existed. If you really like P&G, we strongly recommend that you buy GTR2.
It's ethically correct and for a price of a pizza you get to have something you'll enjoy for days, weeks, months, perhaps years. ;)

Sucks that GTR2's selling rights seemed to have disappeared into a void, but I really suggest trying the mod at least with the demo and a few mod tracks if nothing else. The feel of the cars is absolutely sublime, maybe only marred by the limitations of the tyre model at the limit, but the cars still feel like nothing else.

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I had PnG installed and it worked perfectly. The game started crashing often and I decided to uninstall everything, both PnG and GTR2. I am now unable to install PnG. I can still install GTR2 and it works but not PnG.

I get an unpacking error, status 2. I looked into it and on the official website they have a .exe that checks for the files and lets me know if they are corrupted which they were. I re-downloaded the files and put them on a new folder, just like the instructions on the site, and they still are checked as corrupted, at least one file is always failing the check. I keep re-downloading and always one file is considered to be corrupted/broken and I always get the same error when installing. What am I doing wrong? Could it be my PC have something broken/corrupted?

1. Make sure the files are correctly named. Some versions of IE re-name files.

2. Do you know which file is corrupted? Don't download all of them - just the corrupted file. Try another mirror.

I double checked the file names and they are correct. I have downloaded each file one by one. I used the software to check which file is corrupted and it says .001 is corrupted and the others are fine. Then I re-do the check and .001 file becomes ok and the .002 goes corrupted. It's weird. How can a file go from being corrupted to good and vice versa?

I'll give it a try one more time.
