Porsche on track for LMP1 assault

The wheels are literally in motion for Porsche’s return to LMP1 competition, with testing continuing on their 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship entry. Fans of the German marque will be pleased to hear that, even after a 16 year absence from the top endurance racing class, the cobwebs appear to have been dusted and they will once again launch an almighty assault on global endurance racing.

How do you get to be competitive from the get go? Copy as much as you can from the best car in the field,and employ a top rate driver. They've ticked those boxes.Mark Webber has unfinished business at Le Mans,and has experience,raw speed & patience,probably the most important attributes required in a driver for multiclass racing.He definitely understands about closing speeds & slower cars,his last few years in F1 have had EXTREMELY slow back markers, (HRT,Virgin,Marrussia,Caterham & even Williams & Torro Rosso on their bad days and tracks). Mark learnt not to assume a backmarker will let him through easily when Heiki Kovaleinen decided to block him at Valencia,despite Mark qualifying on the first 2 rows,Heiki on 2nd to last row,4.5 secs slower on the option tyre while Mark on Primes!!!! Would love to see 3 or 4 way fight for the win,& all being different manufacturers,without safety cars having closed it up at the front!
