"Porsche has taken the covers off its latest racing model, the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, which was given its world premiere yesterday (28 November) at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Stuttgart marque’s eagerly-awaited 700-horsepower machine will closely resemble the road-going 911 GT2 RS and is set to make its international competition debut in 2019.

This sets the car on the path towards the new GT2 category launched by SRO Motorsports Group during this year’s Total 24 Hours of Spa. GT2 will build upon the same founding principles that forged the success of GT4, while adapting cars to develop between 650 and 700 horsepower.

Initially, the category will be reserved for amateur drivers and focus on Sprint format events, complementing the existing GT3 contingent of cars.

GT2 is set to make its debut during the 2019 Blancpain GT Sports Club campaign before expanding to other championships – including the Blancpain GT World Challenge series in America, Europe and Asia – during 2020.

The 911 GT2 RS Clubsport is poised to become one of the first cars signed up to the new discipline. Discussing the new machine, Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, Porsche’s vice-president of motorsport and GT cars, commented: “We are currently holding very productive talks with the race organiser SRO.”

Two other manufacturers have already confirmed their intention to homologate GT2 cars in 2019, while three others are working on projects for 2020 and beyond."

Bit of a fluff piece, this PR - a couple of months ago Porsche were talking about entering their "935" into GT2, and now this which is a trackday car. This one is far more likely an entry, though, if this GT2 class even happens.

That is a pretty monstrous wing.
