Kunos Simulazioni have confirmed today that the much anticipated Porsche 911 RSR 2017, due to be released as part of the third and final Porsche DLC instalment for Assetto Corsa, has been delayed until early 2017.

Regretfully Kunos been unable to complete the new for 2017 911 RSR in time to meet the December 20th DLC release date, however to ease the disappointment of fans the car has been replaced by the very tasty 911 Turbo S. Additionally Kunos have confirmed the missing 2017 911 RSR will be added as a free update to Volume III, maybe as early as January next year.

Of course the delay will be a disappointment to fans eagerly looking forward to take ownership of the Porsche Volume III DLC pack in just five days time, however the inclusion of a replacement vehicle and a promise to offer up the 911 RSR as a free update (to owners of Vol III) is a very fair compensation by Kunos, and will go some way towards alleviating community criticism following the announcement.

For me the most interesting development from the announcement is the speed in which Kunos have been able to offer up the replacement 911 Turbo S. Does this mean the studio are quietly working behind the scenes on additional Porsche cars outside of the three already known DLC packages? Could 2017 bring yet more legendary machines currently not included in the known vehicles already confirmed or released for Assetto Corsa? Mmm, interesting...

Check out the full Kunos statement below:

"We’re aware that the Porsche 911 RSR 2017 is one of the most sought after cars in the Porsche Pack Vol. 3 DLC and we know how excited the community is after seeing it unveiled just a few weeks ago. Right now, we’re working incredibly closely with the Porsche R&D department in order to reproduce this car the best we can!

The 911 RSR 2017 is not an upgrade of the previous model, but a totally new car. As we want to ensure the best experience possible from this amazing model, we... unfortunately need to spend a bit more time on it, meaning it won't be released as part of the Porsche Pack Vol. 3 DLC next week.

We know this will come as a disappointment to our community but please be rest assured, the wait will be worth it! However, we wanted to find a way to apologize for the delay…

Since we announced the Porsche Program, we noticed that some players were disappointed with the absence of the 911 Turbo S. Today, we’re pleased to announce that the Porsche Pack Vol. 3 DLC will now include the 911 Turbo S!

As for the 911 RSR 2017, this will be available as a FREE upgrade of the Porsche Pack Vol. 3 DLC in January!"

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the thrilling performance of the iconic 911 Turbo S, while we work to complete the 911 RSR 2017. Not only will you have the best ending to 2016, but we’ll kick start 2017 with an incredible car!

A little comment from Aris regarding work on the turbo

I'd like to add a comment to put into perspective the struggle of the dev team in order to bring you the 911 Turbo S
The Porsche Pack trilogy has truly been the most stressful development period for our team by far. The amount of cars to be made, the very VERY tight schedule, the attention to detail from Porsche which expects perfection on every single polygon, texture... skin... everything. It is an honour for us to be the first to have done the Porsche license to such detail and quantity of cars, but also a non stop struggle to make it happen.

You can only immagine when around the end of November with still all the Porche Pack 3 cars open in development, it was clear to us that the RSR couldn't happen in time. With people waiting for it, having already paid for it (people with the Porsche season pass) etc... we were in a dead end. So a decision had to be made. A replacement, cool enough to substitute the 911 RSR, but realistically feasible in a very short amount of time. The 911 Turbo S, seemed a good solution, also requested by the community. Ask Porsche for permission, buy vitamins and energy supplies for the 3DArtists, the sound engineer, the 2D skin artists... (I talk in plural, but as you know, in the end it's the same 2-3 people...) It was a tour de force, one of those moments that you want to close your eyes and just hope for the best. All at the same time as the other cars are being optimized and finalized, while the developers keep pushing to make the console version better and better, while doing submissions to Sony and MS, and while improving PC version core code and new features (you'll see...)

The result you can see it on the screenshots and you'll soon be able to experience it on your screens too. So no, the car wasn't already made, nor there where plans for it... I think this time, more than ever, we can applause the effort of the GFX and sound guys to bring you the Turbo S.

New content is always good, but I would also like to see those new "racy" features and custom championships promised quite some time ago, but haven't heard any news about them recently.

But really (and this is getting a bit off topic) we need a Ferrari 512S to go with that 917K, so we can relive their epic Le Mans battle.

Well, they never had an epic battle at LM. In 1970 some hours into the race all the 512's had lost touch with the leaders. After 4 hours 9 out of 11 512's were out of the race which didn't help either. The 512 didn't stand a chance against Porsche that year resulting in a 1-2-3 finish for Porsche. Only in the "Le Mans" movie they've made it look like it was a close battle - in reality it wasn't, even a 908 finished in front of the two 512 which saw the chequered flag.

If u see any documentary about the 911 or read a book thats how it was created based on the beetle.thats a fact.dont get me wrong i do like porsches like the 962 and many other models and i also respect their racing hystory.simply the 911 is a 60 years old lady with a lot of facelifting and if you drive one in real life you ll see that is nothing more than a sports car.ferraris or lambos are a whole deferent game.

Have you noticed Lamborghini development lately? Since they've been bought by Audi, their cars have basically been high-powered Audi Quattros :p

Waiting a few more weeks is no problem. In the end we get an excellent model to drive, and the Turbo is a nice addition in the meantime.
IMHO...within reason...take the time to finish the car properly.
And!, thank you.
