Rule of thirds.
Slightly under expose.
Lens focal length gives changes in perspective.
Location, location, location.
Cool car, cool car, cool car .... etc

I find the opposite to be better, the higher the exposure(not too much) the more detail you can see, this tends to wash out the background though so needs to be balanced with some contrast and brightness.

Cheers gents, I was trying out some of the tips Carl mentioned. This is the paint job I was working on for my DTM A4 until it was gong to be a team livery ordeal!
