PC Upgrading Discussion

Can't argue with what James posted. You could even go for a non-modular PSU (stick with Corsair), Recycle your old case & Optical Drive, Smaller Hard Drive and save even more money :)

Personally, i would just go with the new case and 500GB HDD, it just means you spend more now, but have to spend less in the future. Agreed on the PSU, look for the Corsair TX 650W :)

so today finaly the confirmation mail arrived at my mail box

since i was already running on my limit for the pc i made a few changes to the 2nd one in the top post
insteed of a 9600 gt it will have a 8600gt
and i changed the 2 gb ram to 4gb CL5 rams from Geil
it will be ready to pick up at friday *jumps up and down*

Be aware there is a hugh difference between the 8600GT you got an the 8800GT the guys above recommended. I am not a NVidea expert, but as far as I know the 8600 is much slower! The NVidea experts please!

i know that but as i sayed befor running this month on the limit and to get the 8800gt
i would need a bigger powersuply too
in a few month i can get a bigger powersuply and a 8800 gt or even one of the new nvidia cards :)

Upgrading my pc

I'm thinking of upgrading my pc due to laggy moments around corners, coming out of th pits and when somebody has a big accident on race 07 and GTR evolution takes alot of fps and i was thinking when we do night races with 25 cars ill be getting low fps.

james has given me a list of products which i should buy to upgrade my computer. But i couldn't find many searches for these products is that because these products are old?

Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Platinum Series DDR2 (OCZ2P10664GK)
DFI LanParty DK P35-T2RS, iP35 Express, S 775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX
Xigmatek HDT-S1283 (H.D.T.) 120mm PWM Fan x3 Heat-pipe LGA775/K8/AM2 Cpu cooler Quad Core Ready

This is what I have

AMD 3700+ CPU
Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI Motherboard
G.Skill ZX 2x512mb RAM
Corsair 520W PSU
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler
nVidia 7800GT Graphics card

Edit I also have an Xbox 360 which I use a lot so I don't want to spend to much money

I think Marcel Hulsbergen can answer your question quet good :)
You can wait for his answer or pm him .

But i think the list that james has given you is fast enough to drive GTR Evolution in high graphics without any problems.

hi Traumatic
while it is a great choice, i think the Q6600 is a bit outdated now in todays standard
Go with a intel core 2 quad Q9300.....it is faster and much more efficient than a Q6600

and the DDR2 ramcard can be a bit cheaper... (that one i think is better if you especially want to overclock your processor)
other than that a good system.

but i will let the final word for Marcel ;)

Great list of parts, though personally I would prefer the E8500 core2duo 3.16ghz 6mb cache processor as it's around the same price and 4 cores will be wasted on most games. You could try aria.co.uk for parts as they are hard to beat. If your on a tight budget you could try this:

Antec 300 gaming case £35
OCZ 500W stealth psu £36
Asus P5N-E SLI £58
Intel E7200 2.53ghz £72
2gb Patriot PC 6400 Extreme memory £28
Artic cooling freezer 7 pro £14
XFX 8800GT alpha dog £95
250gb Western Digital HDD £28
20x Samsung DVD RW £14

Hope this helps :D

well i'm buying a new gaming PC since mine is also getting abit outdated namely the graphics card, ATI Radeon X550 i will be giving my this pc to a family member and getting myself a Packard Bell IPower 8890

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 Processor
(2.5GHz, 1333MHz FSB, 6MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
1024MB nVidia GeForce 9800GX2 Graphics Card
3GB Memory
1TB Hard Drive
Multi-Format Dual Layer DVD Re-Writer
8-In-1 Card Reader
6 USB Connections

Oh noes! What is todays standard? Spending more money on something that isn't really good? It has SSSE4 which is only an advantage in encoding and it isn't hardly supported today. The only 'advantage' is its 45nm which really is not important unless you love the electricity bills. Also it has a very low multiplier which is bad for overclocking. All this for more money than the Q6600.

Q9300 will bottleneck that 9800Gx2. Also the 9800gx2 is power hungry, runs hot and is not quite as good as the cheaper ati counterpart.

okeedokee
tnx for clarifying guys...

then should it not be better to go with a core 2 duo E8400/E8500 ?
it should be overal better than the q6600

James.........if you plan to go with a 9800GX2...why don't you go with the GTX260 or the Radeon 4870?

Possibly a dual core. However imo a quad core is more future proofed and I prefer to compare the price:

E8400: £110.44
Q6000: £111.61

For £1.20 more wouldn't you prefer to have two more cores?

I agree with you about the 9800GX2. The 4870 is a much better card. Also the 4870x2's are out soon and they are going to be very good :)

true
but on the other hand you also have to realize that the Q6600 is more than a year old (if not mistaken 1.5 years now)
with technology you can't go with an old stuff (or at least that is the rule that i always lived with......i have dumped my E6600 never overclocked & my P5B-E motherboard 3 months ago for a E8400 & a P5K-E motherboard with the E6600 going in a old pc)
(and the E8400 goes here in holland for 120 euro (= £95) while the Q6600 for 135 euro)

Compared to the current generation of quad cores the q6600 is far from out of date. It is still the best price/performance quad core. I have mine currently running at 3.5ghz which is fast enough for a while to come.

I think the Q6600 still is a very good CPU, mine outperforms almost all default clocked "modern" cpu's. It runs like charm on 3.6 GHZ or higher if i need it. Just be sure you get a SLACR and not a B3 stepping.

For video i still should go for NVIDIA, i have had bad experiences with ATI in combination with RACE. Enough FPS but stutters in the corners. I know many people have issues with NVIDIA too but after my switch i never had the stutters again and it performs very solid.

For video i should wait for the DX11 versions, they will be here very soon.

OCZ is good RAM, i use it too and it's kinda cheap these days.

I don't have experiences with DFI, but reading the reviews it must be a great board, my choice is still Gigabyte or ASUS, i use Gigabyte and this is the board i trust most of all boards i owned. They use very expensive voltage regulators, it looks like overkill but better have overkill than underkill (what word, underkill :)).

Which powersupply you get? This is very important, take 600 real watts or more. Look for Corsair, they are amazing good.

what do you guys think of this spec for DELL XPS 630

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 Processor (2.5GHz, 1333MHz FSB, 6MB Cache) Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
