Old Australian Circuits Group (OACG)

Old Australian Circuits Group (OACG)

This thread is to propose a collaborative effort to produce some more old Australian circuits. The idea is anyone interested, be they Australian or otherwise, can get onboard and help with creating an old Australian circuit. By now most of us are well aware that it takes quite a while to produce a good rendition of a circuit, so by pooling talents and dividing workloads we might be able to produce higher quality circuits and more quickly.

Tasks could be divided into circuit layout, terrain, textures, trackside objects, gathering reference material, etc.

Some people have experience with the major programs like photoshop and 3D studio Max, others are quite new track making and are just getting into BTB but are full of new ideas and enthusiasm. Some participants might live much closer to the old circuits or roads and be able to provide material and real-world experience.

Obviously this has a chance of turning out badly with people getting in a huff and withdrawing their work from projects, but hopefully a common interest in the circuits could keep people together and working happily. Users can be as involved as they wish, or merely model a building or two if they choose. There should be no obligation to continue with a project if you lose the inclination, but it would be nice if you could allow others to continue your work.

and here is a link for some inspiration : http://tasman-series.com/misc/lostcircuits/lostcircuits.asp

http://rfactorcentral.com/list.cfm?cat=Tracks&region=Oceania has a list of currently available rFactor circuits from the Oceania region though most are more modern versions.

So, if anyone is interested (you don't need to be Australian), post a reply and perhaps name an Australian circuit that you would like to see in rFactor/Simbin titles.

I'll start the bidding with Lobethal 1937-48  It would be a lot of work and that's why I wouldn't want to do it on my own. And I don't live anywhere near Lobethal.

Santa Fe : http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?qdn2fmynry0
Surfers : http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?j59n0c5excyznnb
The track lengths are pretty close to accurate but the rest of them I have added my own impression of the circuits mainly because I was unable to make the neccessary scenery.
So if you enjoy them great if you dont just delete them..

@ Steve, Many many thanks for Baskerville! I spotted it a couple of years ago, and after no word for a while I started to make it a few months ago lol.... I really look forward to your version as it looked great in the screens I had seen.
I also did Mt druitt quite a while ago. but again look forward to trying your version!.
thanks again!

I got to run a few laps of Gnoo Blas and Vale recently, and as Johanas mentioned they're looking great. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of Vale. Thanks Legends.
On the topic of Lobethal, I may have mentioned I'd put out an early version over summer (sth-hemi). Clearly that hasn't happened yet, but I'd like to put a video up soon at least. And, partly because of rF2, I'm feeling Longford might nearly be at a v1.0 for rF1. I think there will be a bit more work on it and then i'll abandon the rF1 version, and only update for rF2. But who knows. I don't have any form in predicting my releases... at all.
And thanks for the readings Lee

Fresh off the scanner, Lobethal!

There's been 2 other articles since my last posting a link but they were both for dirt '60's scrambles tracks & still haven't been added at this point in time.
And although this is for OLD circuit I feel I should add it here as we ARE rather lacking in tracks here in Oz & more so NSW....
With work on Eastern Creek now in action, there's been a new & much needed track passed to be built down in the Wagga Wagga region, for a bit more info & track layout; http://www.mediafire.com/i/?vbmeeb3cb7j2jm7
And remember folks, for access to all other Tracks in Time articles, try this link; http://www.mediafire.com/?aw1nf3e68vqbu
Enjoy!

If there is still place for someone else in the team, may I help? Im from Chile but I really want to improve my skills in track creation and this seems a nice collaborative effort. I have BTB Licence (of course the damn Beta licence is not reset). Also have 3D Route Builder, I have made nearly 60 tracks from South America.

Hi MrOblongo, in the end there isn't really any team, or group, except that we just post in this thread, from time to time :D More like a resource for old Australian circuits (particular thanks to Lee and his scanner :) )
More like a pub than a workplace :D
Cheers!

Speaking of my scanner....
I've recently had it going again catching up with a few articles as well as fresh ones...
Since my last post there's been a few but there have been more dirt tracks featured & Ive only been scanning & uploading the road based tracks.
There is now;
Little River, Vic: http://www.mediafire.com/?7i7kd7zji48kbgd

Gawler, SA: http://www.mediafire.com/?0xwkauybahi8fkn

Tarrawingee, Vic:http://www.mediafire.com/?vm6m2eix7k86n9b

Port Wakefield, SA: http://www.mediafire.com/?8m4lem8l49axm0n

South Port TT, Qld: http://www.mediafire.com/?vo89a9ofqs8mqy9

Port Kembla, NSW: http://www.mediafire.com/?f81ahr2nyz2aaff

Port Wakefield is South Australia's first purpose built race track after Woodside (the track after Lobethal) was made un-available by the state government of the time banning any racing on closed public thoroughfare circuits & was a 9~10 year interlude until it died almost overnight when Malalla was opened in '61...
It was also the track which hosted the '55 Australian Gran Prix in which (Sir) Jack Brabham one his first GP....
Ive started a version of this & if I ever get photobucket to co-operate with me I'll post pic's & start a WIP....although it's already getting close to finished...

The last track, Port Kembla (& the subject of the most recent article), is, in my opinion, one of the most important tracks in Australia's history of Real Road Racing as it holds the place of being the last circuit that motorcycles were allowed to race on closed public roads, was only used once & very nearly didn't happen at all!
How long ago was it?
Try 1996!
And remember, you can still access ALL the compressed articles on other classic Oz tracks here; http://www.mediafire.com/?aw1nf3e68vqbu
(Some may be missing if they're not downloaded regularly...)

Here's a fairly modern lap of Port Kembla;

Hope you all enjoy! :)

I have been working on tracks with Stockcar Evolution and released a track for use in that mod around 6 months ago. Calder Park Thunderdome Oval.

I've enjoyed most of your tracks & look forward to seeing how something down-under from this corner of the globe goes for you :)

I think you guys are doing a great job in bringing Australian Motorsport history to life. On that subject I thought I'd let you all know that over the past 8 months I've been working on Gnoo Blas 1953 and it is now essentially complete. This project was commissioned by Troyton Simulators, backed by Orange City Council and funded by NSW Tourism. It's a bit of an experiment using rFactor as a tourism publicity tool and kudos to Rod Monk of Troyton Simulators for coming up with the idea and being persistant enough to make it happen. We presented the track at last week's Gnoo Blas Classic Car Show where among others Colin Bond had a drive and Jim Richards had a good look. It was well received by all and will be released to the public for free download in a few week's time. I'll keep you posted.

Good stuff Krunch!
Will be interesting to compare with legendsatlunch's interpretative of Gnoo!
Be sure too to check out the 'Tracks in Time' article by Jim Scaysbrook in his Old Bike Australia magaine which Ive scanned & uploaded previously to here;

I look forward to trying this out soon!

[edit] I just checked photo's out...
Stunning work Krunch!
Will this be rF(1) or rF2 release?

rF(1)!
I AM impressed!
I thought it was rF2 due to the shadows, mine never look that good... :(
With such a novel & forward looking approach to Tourism promotion by all involved, let alone the quality of the work, I forwarded your above post to Bram as I feel this could be a news worthy item.
As mentioned before, this looks great & the bonus is it's a classic Oz track! ;)
I look forward to trying this track soon & best of luck to future builds Krunch
