We’re heading to the picturesque Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire for today’s motorsport photo of the day. Here we find BTCC championship leader, Matt Neal, steering his factory Honda Civic to another impressive showing at the 3.4 kilometre circuit.

Following a less than ideal start to his season in the opening race at Brands Hatch, Matt Neal has displayed fantastic form in each of the subsequent races throughout the 2013 season. The 46 year-old had already picked up three race wins prior to the fifth stop on the BTCC schedule.

Neal notched up a second placed finish in the first race at Croft, and just missed another podium result after he took the chequered flag in 4th position at the conclusion of the second race of the weekend. Approaching the final hit out, Neal was desperate to claim victory in order to press home his title advantage heading into the summer break.

In dreadful conditions, the Honda Racing Team pilot overtook Nick Foster for the lead on the third lap, and appeared to relish the status of being the race leader. However, on the final lap of the race, he ran wide at both Tower and the Esses, allowing Colin Turkington t0 close right up behind the his Honda Civic. However, drawing on his extensive experience, Neal held his nerve to edge out Turkington by 6 tenths of a second.

Leading the championship by 19 points over Andrew Jordan, Matt Neal fans certainly have cause to celebrate the 46 year-old’s heart-stopping triumph, and his performance earns today’s motorsport photo of the day ahead of this weekend's visit to Snetterton!
