Warren nothing to worry about at all, Personally i think it was a bit harsh on Warren saying about be easy at t1 and the first lap:( (this is Warren for cryst sake not some idiot)

Very good race tonight
about that chat after race 1. i didn't see exactly see what happend in t1 because i was infront. all i saw was a big crash and didn't know who was involved. after the race avi said that he was hit and started from last . i had no idea what exactly happend and we both asked that for the next race everyone should be a bit more carefull in the start. only later i understood what happend. i had no idea it was warren and ofcourse i appolegize if i made an offensive remark. i did many mistakes in the past and it's part of racing too in my view.
let's all move on then to the next league race. looking forward to it

:good:

Yep, got to agree with Ben here, not specifically about Warren, it should apply to any and all of us.

There was no-one in the dozen or so of us last night that I don't trust to know about T1 or whatever issues. We all know each other quite well by now in the driving sense, and we should take that into account. That was why I was asking who the comments were directed at.

Even so, accidents do happen, to all of us, and we have to accept that. The big 65 & 76 cars can magnify mistakes, there's a lot of weight and horsepower involved, so things can turn ugly really quickly.

All I would say is that, as long as the correct behaviour is followed on track (waiting etc.), we should wait to see what gets said once the race is over, and by whom, before anyone starts issuing caution messages.

I wasn't involved so I couldn't say anything as I had no info on who caused what. If you are actually involved in the incident, and there are clearly no apologies or regret being shown, then OK, you have a point.

If you're not involved, and don't know full details (emphasis on full), please just think before getting involved or saying anything, as you might only make it worse than it already is.

@ Amir - you said nothing offensive, you have nothing to apologise for. All I'll suggest is that in future instances, before you send any chat, put yourself in (for instance) Warren's shoes last night at the conclusion of Race 1. Would you want to have people reminding you of just how big a mistake you made while you're feeling rotten and trying to apologise?
Warren was quite clearly mortified by the error, and was saying so. And then, all the "take care" messages come flying in, which must have been the icing on the cake.

@ Warren - Knowing you, there's probably nothing that could make you feel any worse than you made yourself feel. It happens, you've been on the wrong end of it enough, it wasn't deliberate, take your medicine and move on. No-one thinks you are a reckless or careless driver, we all have our off days, it's done now.

@ Sam - Again, pretty much the same as Warren - we all have off days, sometimes you get away with it, sometimes you put yourself in a wall, sometimes other people are involved. Frustration is a bad thing to keep bottled up, so in a way it was better to get it out and leave it behind. The chat comment wasn't exactly the most incendiary, I'm sure your thoughts were bluer than that. The biggest issue for me was the disappointment of your non-participation in race 2, as you said you enjoyed that track.

No incident reports have been filed as far as I'm aware, I'm not going to report anything, and no-one gets a ban from me in GTL for being fallible as long as they behave correctly (wait at the time), hold their hands up afterwards and apologise.

Anyway - the races.

Race 1 - Escort - Track -Ricard 88.

Man, do I lurves the Escort. I chose the Escort purely because I love the lightness, the deftness of the handling. I was a bit surprised to see it as head and shoulders quickest in the group, me & Amir being P2 & pole respectively.

Maybe it would have been closer if there hadn't been the Lap 1 turmoil (no more said about this - it's been done to death already) but Amir & I seemed to scamper away fairly easily. We had a few great laps, Amir pulling out to 1.5 sec, me closing up to 0.5, him pulling out again, me closing up again - really nice racing :good:

I seem to be getting into this bad habit of driving OK, quick-ish & smooth-ish, closing up or keeping in touch, and then for some reason deciding to push that extra bit harder, and it very rarely turns out well. This happened twice in this race, and the second time, it spoiled it for both me & Amir. First time, at the T1 Esses, I decided to get on the accelerator way too early and caused a wobble, Amir opened up to a 4 sec lead in that one corner. I slowly started closing (really slowly, but closing nonetheless), but then in the last corner, after I'd closed up to about 2 sec, could see Amir really close, I again tried to boot it too soon rather than keeping on in the style that I was using to close, and this time it was a full on spin - race over in terms of competition, which was a shame.

Pretty quiet for the rest of the race finishing P2.

Race 2 - CSL Schnitzer - Track - Ricard 75

Well, despite all of my chat in practice about how much heavier the CSL was than the Escort, I totally forgot that in the first lap of Race 2, the tight right hand hairpin that starts the approach to the back straight became a bit of a "straight-on", dropping me a few places.

Next lap (and I'll need to look at the replay to make sure if this is correct) I out braked Hans into the fast Esses, he clipped my rear quarter, and I saw a load of sand/dust being thrown up. I didn't know whether it was his fault, my fault or just one of those things, so I stopped at the chicane for him to go past putting me dead last as everyone piled through (opportunists, the lot of 'em :D ) Started on a very entertaining drive climbing back up the order, including some pretty punchy slipstreaming action down the back straight with Warren, Steve & Hans. I managed to claw my way back up to halfway, and was now following Luc in the 906, which was a real quickie. I saw Luc closing in on Croucher, my gap holding pretty static to Luc, so Croucher was my target - through the power of XD I could see my gap to Matt getting down from >20 sec down to about 13 sec, but I ran out of laps before I could get any higher to get into the mix with Matt, Luc & Amir - no matter really, it was good getting that far.

Really very good fun. The tracks were excellent, the cars I and most others drove were close and competitive.

One consequence of Avi's superb win in Race 2 is that the big Capri may not now make the cut for the league 2009.2, as it was waaaay out in front - only the other (banned) Corvette giving it any real competition. The CSL's, 911's, Escorts's, 906's were all pretty close - add the lesser Corvette in there and that's a nice little field IMO. Looking at the timings, with this pretty closely matched group of drivers, we have a 906, a CSL and a 911 all within 0.7 sec of each other. That's the sort of closeness I'm after.

Mate, no-one's doubting the Capri's speed and user friendliness, but it surprised me just how far out it was. The goup of people last night are a good indication of average speed, experience and ability, covering quite a few current RDHGP drivers - the times shown were really nice and close across the cars, except for that Capri which was way out on it's own.

That all Escort event we had at Snett, Doni & Silverstone was great, I'll be concentrating on Escort / Corvette / 906 / 911 skins now for the next league - If I do the Escorts first, we'll try them out on an all Escort special event. :good:

Thanks Amir for the kind words, but as you'll see I'm not so pleased with my driving last night.
First of all, this is another event I entered without any prior knowledge of either cars or tracks. I selected the Cobra at random, and soon started to regret it. I think most will agree that the Cobra is not the ideal car to learn a track, especially when in parallel you're tweeking the setup to try and make it drivable...
Anyway, I struggled for most of the practice session to keep the car on the track. Went into qualy with hardly a clean lap under my belt, so I was not unhappy about qualifying 5th. The race was mostly a solitary one due to the first corner events, in which I miraculously didn't get involved. I finished the race 5th (I think) after a couple of spins - could have been far worse.
I found the Cobra quite frustrating. Lots of understeering in tight corners, although the back end will snap if you lift the throttle too quickly. Not much grunt at low revs mean you have to downshift all the way to 1st gear in lots of places, thus worsening the wheel spin and oversteer. Not unsimilar to the Vette, but less fun as it is not as well balanced, and therefore not easy to slide around the track. Mind you, my setup was probably not perfect as I didn't have much time to work on it.

For race 2, I expected a much better race as I had selected an allegedly excellent car, which for some reason I had never driven before and really wanted to try.
Well, it IS quick, very nimble too, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought. Mainly, I found it quite unpredictable when you push it too hard. It's quick over one lap, but quite a challenge over a long run in my opinion (although drivers with more talent might disagree on that one). Anyway, again spent most of practice struggling to understand how this car works. When I finally understood that I had to forget all about the way I was driving the Cobra and that to be quick in the 906, you had to be very clean, I started to improve my lap times, which allowed me to qualify 1st on the grid. Even though with more time, I'm sure that the Vette and Capri would have been ahead, as they were in the race.
I expected a close and exciting race, but I ruined it in the 1st lap when I went too wide in the very fast right-hander after the back straight. A bit later, I was chasing Amir really close and went off again. About a gazillion off-road moments later, I finally decided to get my acts together, stop worrying about my itchy chin or the infernal heat in my study and actually start to drive.
Unfortunately we were already past half-race by then, and although I passed Matt when he made a mistake and then caught up with Amir, I didn't have time to try anything to pass him.
All in all, this was quite a poor race from me (at least the 1st half) and I definitely need to do at least 10 practice laps to learn the tracks and cars before joining any event!

Anyway, it was still a fun evening and Warren, I wouldn't worry too much about the incidents, everyone knows you are a clean and fair driver. I probably made 3 times as many mistakes as you last night, I was just lucky that nobody else got caught in them.

I have wait a while to make a report because I would read first the post that already bin made .
I think that I am the reason that Sam quit the race, I hit Sam after the short Esses before the strait.
I now how Sam takes his corners most of the time much faster then I do,so I did not hold back the car and try to hold as much speed as possible, bud Sam brakes harder than I expected because of the car in front of him,so I hit Sam from behind and Sam spun of ,so I stop the car and wait for Sam to com back on track, that did not happen,he hit Esc.
Fore one moment I would do the same because I feel bad about it.
Bud I did not, because I all most never Quit even if I am 3 laps behind.
This went trough my mind the hole day,so I have to wright it down and make a big apology to Sam , I think that I was the drop of water that overflow the bucket.

Hans

Hans, I suspect Sam became frustrated from three separate incidents during the opening lap or two, after watching the replay.
First, he had to navigate through the wreckage of my crash, he then became involved in another incident midway through the lap, then, later, he was spun in your incident. Many of us contributed unfortunately, so his frustration was understandable. That would frustrate the best drivers, and Sam is up there with the best of them.
This event was very unusual for our friendly group, so best to move on and forget about it.

Still despite off it all, I have had one off my most enjoyable race evenings
with great fights with Matt great spin offs bud most of all I begin to love my Porsche 914 not that fast on the straits bud pretty fast in the corners,if you are not nice to him he will byte you,bud mostly your own fault.

Thanks guys it was a great evening.

Hans

OK, stop with the recriminations, I left because I was not at my best, normally I would have continued but when I'm feeling "off colour" I get grumpy and I didn't want to take that out on anyone else because of something silly I did myself. It wasn't the hits Hans, I know folks here dont do it deliberately, I couldn't keep the car ontrack because I was too warm, feeling ill etc. :struggle: so I left, I should not have made the comment in chat or made the post here so soon after leaving the server, PLEASE can we just put this behind us and get on to the next event.:good:

Sam
