Mitch Evans joins Jota for Le Mans

New Zealand's young single seater hotshot Mitch Evans has today announced he will join the reigning Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 class champions Jota Sport as they look to retain their title this year.

Evans will partner Simon Dolan and new signing Nick Yelloly for both the Spa 6 Hours World Endurance Championship round and Le Mans. Evans will effectively replace on-loan factory Audi driver Filipe Albuquerque, who will take up his Audi driving role for Spa and Le Mans.

It's believed that Evans has already briefly tested the teams Gibson car last month in Spain, with rumours suggesting Evans will test for the team again next week at Paul Richard in France. It also appears that long term mentor Mark Webber has helped Evans make this initial step into sportscars.

This news appears to be good for everyone, as Jota can pair two very fast young drivers in Evans and Yelloly alongside the experienced Simon Dolan, whilst Evans gets the chance to dip his toe into sportscars with one of the best LMP2 teams in the business. It will be exciting to see the team in action this year, especially with Evans joining the team for Spa and Le Mans.

Great news! With the lack of funding Mitch has I think it'll be extremely tough to take the next step into f1 so I think it's a very good decision to go into endurance racing as it is a fantastic competition. Hopefully it'll get him more exposure as well!
Finally New Zealand is getting back into the world map of Motorsport with Mitch, Hayden Paddon, Brendon Hartley, Scott Dixon to name a few
