The son of former Grand Prix racer Henk van der Mark, Michael won the 2012 Superstock 600 at Magny-Cours - his first international title.

Michael van der Mark won the 2014 World Supersport championship at Jerez with two races remaining. Adding to his steller 2014 season, Michael also won the highly prestigious Suzuka 8 Hour victory for the second year in a row with MuSashi RT Harc-Pro Honda.

Winning the Suzuka 8 Hour race for Honda Racing Corporation is a very important milestone for any riders career. Victory for Honda at Suzuka is held in high regard by HRC, often more than winning many of the various world titles.

What does the future hold for the 21 year old? Perhaps a full season in the Moto2 class in the near future. At the very least, Ten Kate will likely move Mark onto the CBR 1000RR in the World SBK championship.

Maybe SSP is not so common here. But indeed we may see a new star in the future. But then he must step into Moto2 and none of the SSP drivers has impresded me there yet:unsure: But he will step up to SBK anyway I guess. And have a bike that's not top notch:cautious:

The Honda Fireblade in SBK is one of the least improved bikes; Honda have done hardly anything in the last few seasons to improve the bike either on the street or on the racetrack so Michael will be probably taking over from Johnny Rea...who is apparently leaving for Kawasaki.

Should be interesting step up from riding a bike with 140-150hp to well over 210bhp.
