Mercedes come out on top again in Barcelona, this time thanks to team debutant Nikita Mazepin.

The second and final day of testing in Barcelona would be far more eventful than Tuesdays running, with plenty of teams getting out on to the circuit and a number of new faces making an appearance, or reappearance in the case of McLaren, with their respective squads.

Despite the changes, it would still be Mercedes driver atop the times come the conclusion of running - with young Russian rookie Nikita Mazepin managing a solid day of activity despite a brief spin, amassing no less than 128 laps for his new team as he gapped second place Alex Albon by almost a second and a half.

New faces for today would come in the form of Antonio Fuoco for Ferrari, Jack Aitken in the Renault, Dan Ticktum for RedBull and Oliver Turvey and Sergio Sette Camara sharing driving duties for McLaren. Nick Yelloly and Nicolas Latifi would once again be called upon by Racing Point and Williams respectively.

Mazepin must have sped away from the pits before they could attach the sandbags!

    Mercedes fastest.

Breaking news indeed. It's like saying Toyota has an advantage with their hybrid tech at Le Mans but there it isn't Toyota's fault, it's Audi's and Porsche's fault for leaving. Meanwhile in F1 it's the fault of other teams screwing up.

Quand on pense que le temps de pôle est de 1,15.406 et que la seconde Hamilton n'avait que fait le 1.16.040, on peut dire que Mazepin a réalisé une très bonne performance avec son 1.15.775 ...

Another Mercedes exclusive driver that hits the ceiling. Seems that every skilled driver can be fastest with a Mercedes.
Being a bit over 2 tenths slower than Bottas is quite an achievement for a rookie.

Quite more than that, considering Bottas was on 2 compounds harder.

I was reading that on the 2nd test day he was only 0,264 sec slower on the same C5 compound.

He qualified on pole with a 1:15.4 on the C3 tyre during the race weekend.

Still not bad, for a first time in a F1 with 50 kilos more fuel. :)

I notice C4 and C5 look identical bar a small stripe on the rim. That would wear off in close combat if the tire was real square to the car or wall. Maybe its time to get another coulour. The others are no problem to differentiate. Maybe the wheel rims should be painted to the tire compound coulour.

Could it be that today's F1 cars are so easy to drive that any rocky with setup from Bottas and data settings are able to get close Valtteri`s times ?
