Making adjustments in garage or setup sometimes results in CTD.

With a few games, e.g. GSC2013 and Race07, I have a strange and annoying issue. When I make adjustments, for instance by clicking on + or - for fuel or steering lock, I sometimes get a CTD and have to start the game all over again. I cannot find out what the cause of this is. Because it happens with more than 1 game, I assume that it is not the game itself.
Has anyone an idea what I can do to solve it ?

FWIW: I have Windows 8.1 Professional 64bit.

Does it actually crash the game or does it just go back to the desktop?

Most of the times it goes to the desktop.

Wanted to suggest windowed borderless, but it seems these games don't support that. I will move this post to the GSC section, maybe people have an answer for you there.
