ISI and Studio 397 have today launched a new three minute trailer for 'Closing the Gap', a Zansho film made in association with Image Space Incorporated by Ed Trevelyan-Johnson, following the progress of the Revolution Racing sim racing team on the build up to the virtual Le Mans 24 Hour endurance event.

With the ongoing development of technology bringing gamers ever closer together in an online environment, many people have taken to participating in large scale multiplayer gaming in the last ten years. As with all competitive activities, with the capability of the technology increasing so does the human nature to compete against our fellow man increase with it. Online racing is now in many cases a serious e-sport, with a large number of leagues and organisations offering casual and serious racing leagues for players to enjoy across a broad range of racing sims and games.

As both real life and virtual endurance racing becomes increasingly more popular, many gamers have looked to rFactor 2 to fulfil their racing urges. Revolution Racing driver and filmmaker Ed Trevelyan-Johnson has sought to capture some of the intensity of online racing with a new film, based around his teams preparation for the final race of their endurance season using rFactor 2. Trevelyan-Johnson travels over 2000 miles around the globe as he sets out on an adventure to meet his fellow teammates for the very first time. The epic journey attempts to discover what motivates people of very different backgrounds to come together and race in a virtual motorsports team, and the friendships that these people have formed over time despite having never met each other.

'Closing the Gap' Director Ed Trevelyan-Johnson had the following to say regarding the idea behind the film:

"At its core, Closing the Gap is a human interest story. Through what is, in essence, a computer game, I got to know a bunch of fairly weird and wonderful people smattered across Europe, who I'm sure I would have never met otherwise. The biggest motivation to make the film was the predicament of familiarity without a face, which I find fascinating. It's interesting to see how a simulation which is the absolute ultimate in technical sophistication can get people together into something very closely related to a real motorsport team."

Closing the Gap is due for release before the end of Q1 2017.
