DiRT Rally Is Dirt Rally close to RBR's physics/FFB now?

And this thread is very much about the comparisons of DR and RBR in case you hadn't noticed.
Indeed it is. And you yourself contributed some nicely thought out and reasoned discussion early on in it. And then felt compelled for some reason to join in belittling people who had a different opinion than you. Voicing my objection to that doesn't make me childish troll, it just means that I don't have great tolerance for that kind of behaviour on a forum which is meant to be about people sharing a common interest. However, please feel free to report my trolling and abusive posts to the mods.

PS Sorry this escalated. I'm sure you're a really nice guy and if we were all down the pub talking about sims face to face over a beer we'd be enjoying ourselves.

I haven't belittled anyone, but you have attempted to. Calling people elitists etc. There was absolutely no need to take the thread off course in such a way.
Now just because some of us have a different opinion to you doesn't give you the right to start calling them names.

1 - Go to thread about RBR and DR physics
2 - Contribute my point that I like RBR but don't actually terribly enjoy its physics. As many people don't
3 - Get called an arcade driver for my trouble
4 - Object to that because quite frankly it added nothing and smacks of elitism. I stand by that
5 - Find myself in a circular argument with a bloke I'm sure is perfectly reasonable, yet strangely refuses to acknowledge any responsibility for the unfortunate tone this thread is taking
Wow, some cry babies here. Carry on. An influx of arcade ex console racers on here is bound to sway opinion a little these days.
I've done my best to explain my viewpoint and apologised to you, and instead of some kind of de-escalation I've have been branded a troll and an aggressor and condescended to for my efforts.

Ok, this is pretty easy really.

We do not call other people anything.
There is no sim that is proven to be "most correct". If we should go by "the pro's", the majority still use rFactor/rFactor Pro, and as we all know. rFactor is now seen as outdated.

In a thread about RBR/DiRT Rally, and physics and FFB, there will always be disagreements, if not, it wouldn't be much of a thread. However, disagreements can, should, and will happen, without anyone throwing remarks at others. That also goes for "arcade racers" "trolls" etc. That does not give anything useful to any kind of discussion.

I know I'm spoiled by the very friendly atmosphere we have in the RBR & rFactor parts of the forum here these days, but I see no reason why it shouldn't be the same here.

Every post ends the same way. Pcars vs AC, rbr vs every rally game, gsce vs other ffb...This forums everyday looks more like a school.

They all simulate or try to similate the real thing. Most of us got a cheap wheel and some even play with pads. How the heck can you say physics are this or that Playing with a xbox controller? How can you say this is real or not with a g27 and an office chair?

And probably the ones with pro equipment are not in the forum since they probably are enjoying the play.

So...They are different, some more difficult or some easier (again this can be subjetive since I find AC and RBR not that difficult very grippy and some people doesn't) and they are all different but with some things in common. Keep the ones you like and enjoy.

And if you come to say something let it be with respect and common Sense. And no, no sim will be perfect for all of us in the next 3-4 years and im being optimistic. But in some years hardware should be cheaper and software will keep developing so should be a better (nowadays simracing is being greatly supported) time for all of us "simracing for real".

Hey I didn't play Dirt Rally for a few months, do you still need custom FFB files to have better feedback or did they fix it now?
TemplarGFX did an awesome job with his great mod Impact: http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/impact-force-feedback.107811, and with earlier releases of DR it really livened the FFB feel. As Mikaela said, the latest DR FFB is now pretty informative by default. I now find that Impact makes things a little too lively and my G27 too rattly, but that's just a personal preference. Try both and see how it feels.

Not a word about FFB or Physics improvements so I'm beginning to doubt we will see a true succesor to RBR :(

This must be about physics?

"Perhaps the most exciting thing about them is that they are being made using our latest vehicle tech. We’ve been working on this stuff in the background for a while now but these will be our first rally cars that will have the full suite of improvements. The plan is to layer these improvements into all the rally cars that have already been released. More on these updates to come but suffice to say it is going to be a significant step forward once we get these into the game."

You are correct, this is physics related :)

It's better than RBR ever was. RBR had a solid stab at simulating complex systems on a target that was essentially a PS2 baseline. A good job.

But the engine today is rigid and not modern. Also the physics are not fluid enough as in the simulation is not very dynamic or balanced. The problem is that this leads people to think that because it is uncontrollable in some situations, it must be realistic. Same as with GPL...

The notion had become that they are pinnacles of realism when in fact real drivers find them frustrating gauntlets much much harder to control than a real life car.

DR now makes use of modern hardware to fix this, by a more dynamic model. It is simpler to control due to this (more predictable) but in that it is closer to real life...

For instance, me being a rally driver in real life always struggled with RBR along with my also real life driver friends. We found it to be more like a twitchy game. But still it was as close as you could get.

Now with DR, the feel is much better. It is closer to real car dynamics. And it behaves like my real life Ford Escort did back in the day...

The Mk2 Escort in RSBR for instance spins out in 4th Gear. I can assure you that that will NOT happen for real.

DR is also more gradual, also due to being a modern engine on modern hw i guess...

But yeah. RBR is dethroned. I will never return to it. And it was dethroned by the guys that gave us the awful Dirt3. Who would have thought...

@Ole Marius Myrvold, i will agree on that though. DR has a list of peculiar stuff of it's own. Braking and the lack of movement of the rear during it, is my biggest gripe right now. IRL the car would squirm like a worm in a water slide when braking hard on rough gravel.

But as a full package it is way ahead. It's modern and feels more alive to me.

As for focus, in the future i really hope the base of DR can be used with the WRC license. I would love that.
