iRacing QA Event (Sat 14th May 2011)

Just seen this on the iRacing homepage......

iRacing is scheduling a special one-off event on Saturday, May 14 at 4 pm ET (20:00 GMT) to test some infrastructure changes to the system in preparation for the iRacing.com Indy 500 on May 28. The official 15 lap race -- the iRacing.com QA Event -- will run on the Okayama International Circuit (full) with Mazda MX5s. Qualifying begins at 8:30 pm ET on Thursday, May 12 (00:30 Friday, May 13) and runs every hour on the half hour until the start of the race on Saturday.

The more members who participate, the better. If the entry tops 2,000, every participant will receive an “iTested” award on the Awards Page. Certainly, anyone planning on participating in the iRacing.com Indy 500 on May 28 should do their best to join the Okayama race . . . as should anyone interested in making our service (even) better.

Okayama and the MX5 are part of the basic subscription, so every member has what he or she needs to participate. So have some fun on iRacing’s newest race track with one of everyone’s favorite cars . . . and do your part to continue making iRacing the world’s foremost online race simulation service.

Kills 2 birds with one stone....... some MX-5 racing at Okayama and also get a bonus award for your achievements page, lol.

So for the preparation of the Indy500 with highspeed IndyCars on the oval of Indianapolis they run a test race with the Mazda Mx5 on Okayama. Makes perfect sense :chat:

They want to make sure they don't have another Daytona fiasco. Everyone owns MX-5, so best chance to stress-test the new loading system. But the irony is not lost.

Stress testing with an MX5... I do that every week in Rookie races : )
But I do like the Okayama track alot.
My 2 year old did his first laps there the week before last. Now he just want to drive through the gaps in the fence or crash... Shows promise tho!

It's a stress test for the network prior to the Indy 500 so it makes perfect sense to ask people to log in and race using the default (and popular) content to get as many 'bums on seats' as possible.

[sarcasm on]With the MX-5's @ Okayama, they will be required to turn both left and right several times during a lap, unlike the Dallara's @ Indy[/sarcasm off]
