Internet download limits be gone! Another update for iRacing, with a bonus bit of new content thrown into the mix.

Never turn on iRacing when you only have a few minutes to spare before you are due to hit the track, otherwise you might find yourself with a pretty sizeable new update or three to download - such is the recent rate of development at the American development team.

Not content with book sized update notes for the main build, and seemingly never content to rest on their laurels with a good release, the studio have been at it again with yet another meaty hotfix update for the simulation, adding plenty in the way of development goodness, plus early access to the previously mentioned and currently heavily in development new GT3 challenger from BWM.

iRacing Season 1 Patch 2 Notes:

General

– The iRacing UI now features a “Safe Mode” for users that might be having some rendering issues with their iRacing UI.
– – The UI can enable Safe Mode for users that are having problems with the UI not rendering correctly. By default the UI will analyze the GPU settings as it starts and will automatically decide if it should start in Safe Mode. If it decides to start in Safe Mode, you will be shown an error message with further information.
– – Safe Mode fixes an issue for users without Hardware Acceleration. The issue was appearing as a large black or white rectangle instead of displaying the iRacing UI.
– – While Safe Mode is enabled, users will not be able to render content in the 3D Model Viewer.
– – – If you wish to manually override this setting, you may change the “uiSafeMode” setting under the “[Graphics DX11]” section in the “app.ini” file. Automatic (0), On (1), or Off (2).

– A Gift Card link has been added to the side-bar.

Hosted Sessions

– The logic for loading, displaying, filtering, and creating Hosted Sessions has been optimized.
– – These changes should reduce your load times and refresh rates, and increase the speed that the page updates, even during heavily populated times.

– Fixed an issue where the “Purchase” button for a Session was not changing to the “Update” button once the content was purchased.

3D Car Viewer

– Improved object positioning and camera field-of view to work better with very wide aspect ratios.

– Fixed an issue where the 3D models were not automatically updating specular maps.

– Fixed an issue where changes in newly created car folders were not being processed.

– Fixed a variety of rendering issues with the following vehicles:
– – Chevrolet Corvette C6.R GT1
– – Dallara IR18
– – Lucas Oil Off Road Pro Trucks (Lucas Oil Off Road Pro 2 Truck)
– – NASCAR Cup Series Toyota Camry
– – NASCAR Gander Outdoors Chevrolet Silverado
– – Skip Barber Formula 2000
– – Supercars Holden ZB Commodore
– – Modified – SK (Modified – SK)

Paint Shop

– A new sponsor, VRX Simulators, has been added to the Paint Shop.

SIMULATION:

AI Racing

– – BMW M4 GT4
– – Dallara P217
– – Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR
– – Skip Barber Formula 2000

– – Kia Optima
– – Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (991)
– – SCCA Spec Racer Ford
– – USF 2000
– – VW Jetta TDI Cup

Pit Stops

– Fixed an issue where the pit crew would appear to always remove the same type of compound tire, regardless of which type was actually on the vehicle at the time.

Audio

– Undercarriage scrape sounds have been updated.

Force Feedback

– Fixed an issue where force feedback was stopping when SimRacingStudio was launched.
– – This change may also fix the issue with SteamVR stopping our FFB at launch. This fix causes a momentary loss of steering input when the issue arises, this should only happen at Sim startup, but if for some reason that causes you trouble you can disable it by setting [Force Feedback] resetWhenFFBLost=0 in the app.ini file.

Will we be able to run this Prototype in normal GT3 in the future? Looking to jump from the F488 if so.

iRacing subscriber since 2009 here, today I was practicing with the new shiny BMW Gt3 and a VRS setup, lapping around mid 1:46 at WG and...

... honestly I was so much surprised in how much has improved the tire model and car dynamics since the the release of the old McLaren GT3 (the first Gt3 car released in iRacing).

It's so much good and satisfying driving on the limit! Not scary at all, powersliding out of slow corners, or oversteering just a bit on entry feels very natural and under control now!

The last S1 2021 update that updated several cars definitely improved the overall feeling on the GT3's and Porsche cup.
The bouncing over curbs that most often turned into a slow spin lacking detail, grip out of the corners gives a good sense of grip building before you go over the limit and grip under braking is improved from pre update.
Definitely improving and moving in the right direction
