Here's hoping it increases membership, both to fill up the races and make the financials work to lower the costs.

I'll be interested to see how they run this. For example will they make it 'free' on steam and then require you to subscribe upon launching? Or will steam facilitate the subscribing? Or will they drop the subscription fee altogether (I know this is extremely unlikely though)?

It will take you to iracing site, pretty much steam is just an advertising opportunity to access millions of steam users

Hope this increases participation. We need more official races in some of the classes.
