Damon Hill... Amazing driving, real gentleman driver ! And so classy !!! winning a championship then going to a Little team with low money, just for the sport !
This guy should be an exemple for every racer ...

Damon Hill was my sporting hero growing up.....

.....but objectively it has to be out of Jim Clarke, Jackie Stewart or Lewis Hamilton.

It's impossible to pick a definitive number one across the eras for so many reasons. Danger levels, attitudes to safety, number of races on the calendar, different cars, tracks, technology, equipment etc.

So summarising the above, I would say there's an argument for picking any one of the three I've mentioned.

Can't pick one - I'd only pick from drivers who've been on top of multiple disciplines though. Clark & Stewart & Surtees & Graham Hill certainly fit that bill but that's being a bit narrow minded I think.

Jim Clark, Nigel Mansell, Jackie Stewart, the list goes on. I supported Button a lot and he was a match for Hamilton just rarely had a race winning car.

I'm tied between Jim Clark and Lewis Hamilton. Both exceptionally talented, both outstanding drivers of their time, both incredibly fast and reliable even under pressure.

Hamilton has shown all his skill this year. I am struggling to recall him making a single mistake all season.
