Just a few i found you can edit you cant edit in the game menu.
Open the hardware_settings_config in Documents and edit these lines.

yea any general performance enhancing tweaks would be awesome, I'd like to run medium car reflections (so the mclarens don't look like gray poop) but NOT have mirrors since mirrors give me a big performance hit. is this possible?

system is a asus g72gx, p8700(core2duo) 2.53ghz, nvidia gtx260m, so not the highest end thing out there. runs f1 2010 w/ everything on medium but 2011 is just a little much for it. have to put everything on low =\. So I'd like to know anyway to turn up some of the important things (cars, drivers, track surface) and turn down things like trees/crowds/stuff that you go by at 300kph and won't be looking at anyway.

<graphics_detail level="ultra" /> - ULTRA ONLY FOR DX11 card, for DX9 card set to "high"
<shadows enabled="true" size="4096" maskQuality="2" /> - default shadows are 2048x2048, 4096x4096 - sharper shadows.
<headlights headlightQuality="2" /> - default is 0, enhances quality of lights, 2 is max.

<vehicles characterQuality="4" lodQuality="3" />
<envmap faces="6" size="1024" forceBilinear="false" /> - you can put size to 3072 but you need to have ULTRA HIGH END RIG.
