GTL with Windows 7

Guess what?

After months and months of fine tuning their brand spanking new OS to make it uber compatible with every known application on earth, Microsoft have gone and ballsed it all up again.

GTL will not install in windows 7, at all.

Setup runs fine, then when i go to reboot, 7 fails to load and it goes into auto repair mode which does a system restore to undo the installation.

I have read up and it seems this is an issue with starforce drivers not being compatible, i've tried removing them and updating them but it jsut says that there are no drivers installed.

Is anyone else running GTL on 7, or do they know of a solution to this issue? Just under a week until RDHGP kicks off, either starforce or MS better get writing some patches!!!!

Thanks in advance,
Tom

I am getting very frustrated trying to get GTL to work on Win7. Followed everything to the Nth degree except the gtl2008 crack which I cannot find anywhere except for sites demanding $$ for downloads which I don't trust. Can anyone help me on this subject? Laptop crapped out and new one won't launch GTL for all the reasons mentioned by others. Thanks for any help on this . . . str8shtr

Hello,
I have now GTL running on Win7 64 bits.

I only have some problems running GTL in fullscreen, locks up at exit.

I have done this:
1.Installed GTL
2.Installed GTL 1.1
3.Copied all files from GTL2008 and let them overwrite
4.Run decopress.bat
5.Saved GTL/UIData/Game.dic
6.Copied all files from GTL_Light.7z and let them overwrite
7.Replaced Game.dic with the saved from 5

How to copy over my big GameData folder without destrying the crack?
Which files can't be overwritten?

I would prefere not to have to install all my cars and mods/tracks

Anyone that can help?

The term GTL 2008 is rather confusing.

As explained earlier in the thread, what you need is a no cd patch for GLT, available from the site which specialises in no-cd patches. I put GTL no cd patch into Google and the site concerned was top of the list. No payments required. Unfortunately the no-cd patch has faulty sound files so you also need some fixed sound files available from Simjunkies.

I hope I haven't broken the sites rules with this post. I'm perfectly happy to stick with XP but not everyone feels the same, others will be buying new PCs with W7 installed, and it seems a shame that they can't get their legitimate copies of GTL to run without a bit of help.

I moved to Win7 64bit yesterday,i had no idea of all these problems until i went to install GTL back in today and got hit with all the previously mentiond errors and problems,im going to attempt to get it done now with all the help here, but this is all filling me with fear and dread.... :(

Hello!

I've installed GTL on my pc with Windows 7 without any problems..

I tried to have an online race tonight...But I had too many FPS problems and I went out to avoid any problems to the other drivers...
I usually have about 150 FPS, but often suddenly they drops to 40 for 30 seconds or also for some minutes and I can't drive...I had this problem also when I'm racing offline, but it is less frequently...

I set all the video settings to the lowest value but I didn't solve anything...

Any suggestions??? Thanks...

I ran into the same problems people faced here. Now I want to uninstall GT Legends to get rid of the Starforce issues. When I click uninstall a message pops up stating that "unins000.dat" does not exist on C:\GTL\Support\ so it cannot uninstall. When I insert CD1 again to try to uninstall from CD, same message appears. Installing it again is not enabled. Any ideas? Would deleting the whole folder from my hard drive be recommended?

Uninstalling GTL will not remove starforce. Starforce was used by many games so by default uninstalling one game won't remove it as it could stop your other games running. Deleting the folder won't remove it either. However I thought the reason GTL won't run on Win7 was because the Starforce driver won't install in Win7. So there is no Starforce to remove. See the first post in the thread.

Right - I am once and for all going to put this topic to bed - with my super definative guide to playing GT Legends on Windows 7.

My oringinal posts were a bit hit and miss becasue i was getting a step further with each new attempt but now that everything is confirmed as working I can say for sure this method works.

1 - Install GTL from CD (DO NOT REBOOT)
2 - Install V1.1
3 - Copy UIDATA and GAMEDATA to a safe location - This will overcome the issue with the game being german afterwards (GTL_Light was only available in Switzerland, Austria and Germany I believe)
4 - Install GTL_Light from http://uploaded.to/file/9tkft9 ( copy all files to your GTL folder, replacing all conflicts and then run 'decompress.bat')
5 - See steps below to remove starforce drivers from system

Remove the device drivers. Select the System icon in your Windows Control
Panel. Click the Device Manager button in the hardware tab and then select
\"Show Hidden Devices\" from the View menu. Now check the Non-Plug and Play
Drivers device tree, and you should find a few StarForce entries. Uninstall
these.

Delete the system files. Browse to your C:\Windows\system32\drivers folder
and look for a trio of files called sfdrv01.sys, sfhlp02.sys, and
sfsync02.sys (the actual numbers on the files may be different for you).
Delete 'em.

Clean your registry. While this isn't a very difficult step, it does involve
tinkering with your Windows registry-so be careful here, as damaging your
registry could cause serious system problems. Now that you've been properly
warned, type \"regedit\" into the Run dialog box from your start menu. Once
the Registry Editor opens, select the Find option from the Edit menu. Now
search your registry for all instances of \"sfdrv\" \"sfhlp\" and \"sfsync\"
deleting the offending registry keys as they turn up. Once that's done,
close the Registry Editor and reboot your PC-which should now be StarForce
free.\"
6 - Reboot PC
7 - Copy UIDATA and GAMEDATA back to GTL folder - Important step for language retention.
8 - Install Lobby Fix and Money cheat from RD
9 - Enjoy

You do not need to use the previously mentioned 'GTL 2008' crack and since GTL_light is a legit copy of the game distibuted as a magazine freebie i see no legal problems with posting this method, you can't run the game with this method without owning a copy in the first place.

I hope that everyone is able to follow these instructions and can enjoy GTL regardless of their version of Windows. As ever I am happy to answer queries, PM is the best bet as I may not check the thread that often.

Finally, thank you to all of the people who offered help and advise way back when this thread first popped up.

Cheers,
Tom

**Disclaimer - This method worked for me, but it's no guarantee it will for everyone. It is dependant on your Drive patitioning and where you install the game (C:\Program Files is your best bet). The method also doesn't guarantee that once installed the game will run well, performance from PC to PC will differ. This method, particularly the starforce removal requires some tampering with the PC registry and system files and I will not be help responsible for issues of a 'PEBKAC' nature.**

If you open the device manager and show the hidden devices as above you should be able to see a list of drivers. I think they have the names sfdrv01.sys, sfhlp02.sys, and sfsync02.

I can't be totally sure since i've unistalled them though. Sorry.
