Gents, we all know that on certain models in GTL, the skin count is not...bountiful.

Some only have 1, some have 2 but virtually identical, some are just, well, boring.

I've done a few packs here and there, cobbled some community skins together for others...

Now - I know that I can get the critical components of a skin down to make the skin a fairly small footprint on the drive, and a smaller download than a standard "full" skin.

So my question to you, as a GTL community (albeit small but perfectly formed), is this :-

What would you think about a single, standardised RD skinpack covering all the models that need it, ignoring the ones that don't?

Yes, it would be a fairly big download, but it would be a "one-off" download, we could install that single download onto the servers, and everyone would have all the skins, all set out identically.

I'm adding a poll to this so you can easily have your say.

I voted for:
"A standard skin pack, big file, one-off download"

That way there's no one rushing around at the last minute who wants to race but needs to download a skin pack first...

Having said that, if there are some exceptional skins that come out in the future, then perhaps we could include them in the game... Likewise, IF the amount of people racing starts to increase....

standard skinpack is teh winnar here... and you can always provide subsequent releases later on a la ultimate mini skinpack....

I would probably ask you to delete the "old" packs (as I'd be streamlining the skins as much as possible) before installing the new pack. There would probably be some re-jigged "old" skins in the "new" pack.

But no, they wouldn't work, as they'd not be on the server any more, and GTL requires the server to have the skins installed as well as the clients.

Bear in mind this isn't an immediate thing, though. Next couple of months probably. I'd look to do all the skins myself to keep it standard and relatively small.

Now, those of you who skin, and who fancied an easy way of trying it out, would be welcome to send me your GTL skins (I'd only want the Body & Window files) and I'd try and incorporate them into the pack (Like the Mini Pack in Evo).

Even if the pack (or packs if it made sense to split it) got pretty big, it'd still only be a one-time download.

TBH - the Escort's got 3 good and different skins in game (blue/white, red/white, black/gold) so that's probably not going to be too high up the list for skinning necessity.

I'm leaning more towards a 3 pack approach now - TC65, GTC65 & GTC76. Still the one time download for clients and servers, but that way any updates won't be the full huge pack, and people can download one at a time if they have slow(er) connections.

It was in a way, but only tangentially - it'd been something I had been thinking about for a while, especially since I found a few skin size shorcuts, so don't blame yourself.

I had genuinely been wanting to somehow get all the cars skinned up so we had variety at all levels and models, but wanted to find out exactly what the feeling was, and whether people would go for a big pack (containing all the skins) or not.

Ok - I'm going to close this one now.

I've decided on an RD standard skinpack, split into 3 downloads each one covering one class (TC65 / GTC65 / GTC76)

Thanks for the comments and all the people who voted.
