rF2 GT3 Club @ Laguna Seca - Sat 19th April

rFactor 2 Racing Club event
Had a great time tonigth, my first lap was good, passed some cars that had spun, at the end of second lap i sligthly tap Kjell's rear end (sorry :( ) going into the last corner, i waited for him and after that i was in last place, after that i pushed and was able to recovr some places especially with other drivers making mistakes, i had a nice battle with Simon at the first part of the race but he spun rigth in front of me so i passed him, at around the middle of the race i had another great battle with Simon but, unfortunately, i tapped his rigth side when going into the corkscrew and we both spun, we eventually got going again. After that i started losing more time and eventually i decided to pit for tires, i was in 12th or 13th before pitting, after that it was a completely diferent race, i was able to gain a lot of time per lap, in 3 laps i reduced a 10 seciond gap to a 1 second gap :confused:, i was reaching David IO'Reilly but i got a drive-through because of "ignoring" a blue flag, making me recover a 8 second gap all over again, which i did and had a very nice battle with David and i was able to pass him, and i started pushing to get the next car, it was in 11th position. Unfortunately with 6 minutes to go spun at the left hander after the corkscrew and i damaged my suspensio in the front left, which allowed David to ovetake me again and i had to do the last 3 laps with my whell turning 45 degrees to the left :D. I finished in 13th place, which was nice since i had the objective of finishing in 15 th place, at a point in the race i aimed for a top 10 but i realised it was almost impossible :D

Just forgot: A big shout out to my teammates @Calum McLure and @Andrew Ford
They provided me with a nice setup on thursday and I had to learn a lot with a new track and a new wheel. I was having a hard time going below 1.24 on a hotlap and was on the podium today. After 3 wins in a row I lost the GT3 crown, but I was definetely the fastest or the best prepared driver out there today :)

Congrats @Calum McLure for a good 4th place after the Monza disaster ;)
 
Is there a different area that i need to stop at to get rid of stop-and-go penalties?

Is it possible that it was a drive through instead of a stop-and-go? I also got that one several times because of blue flags.

Note to everyone: From next race onward automatic penalties for blue flags will be deactivated :thumbsup: (we forgot to set the server up that way for this race)
 
Cheers Freddy :thumbsup: was probably my best race performance on RD yet :D

Managed to keep my times at about 1.25 every lap apart from those where I was navigating traffic and surprisingly I didnt spin or muck it up the whole race!

Think I could have taken a lot more life out of the tires though as I started pushing near the end and didnt feel like they were worn at all, my front right was at 48% at the finish.

Anyway it was a great race, not much action if any for me still enjoyable :)
 
@Ricardo Edelmann I am just watching a bit of the stream back as I was interested what happened in the rest of the pack. I seem to have a lot of buffering on twitch.tv
I made an account, but still it is a bit annoying. I have a good connection and can view 1080p on youtube without a problem.

Is there any known issue with that site?

/edit: It seems as in some parts it is buffering very quickly and in some parts it is really slow.
Great job on the commentary. Just one improvement for next time: Stay at the front during the starts it is more interesting than the crashes at the back ;)

Excellent to see 28 cars and a good spread of talent.
I had not driven this track until 1 hour before* and my early laps were a disaster.
I took the Nissan just for a change.
Unless I could be safe for other drivers I wouldn't compete.
Gradually got some improvement.
to give you an idea I wrote it down.
Quali I got a 1:31. It was going to be a long night and not pretty.
I figured "that which does not kill me makes me stronger" so stayed on the server.
But when watching Freddy from onboard I was convinced my car was just not turning in.
So I tested a setup change in warmup and got 1:26.66.

Had some nice battles as Ruis said above. I wanted to practice on worn tyres so didn.t stop.
Got a real shock when came across Stefan on the gravel at the apex at corkscrew.
I was on 2nd floor and he was on ground floor but no avoiding him. No probs mate, escaped damage anyway.
Got P12 or 13.
Managed a 1:26.8 race lap.
Was impressed by the front runners, well driven.
Nice one @Calum McLure for your PB.

* been working on my FR 3.5 pace so no time.
 
@Rui F. Martins No worries m8, no harm done, I spun about 20 times more before I gave up and resigned :p
I just realised that I've had too little practice and I'd sooner or later become someone elses problem since I was spinning off left and right, besides I had forgotten to set up my buttons so I had no idea how much fuel I had left :p
Note to self for next time: Practice you dumbass! :p
Thanks all for the even though, watched the stream after quitting out, good stuff!
One tip for improvment though, if at all possible it would be very nice to have a list of current positions onscreen.
 
First of all, thanks to organizers for this race and livestreaming guys for their work, i'm watching it and its absolutelly fantastic. Good work.

After a long time away from RD I thought this event would be nice to returns to competition. Last event I did here was 1 year ago or so with Clio's rf2 at Mid-Ohio.
Qualy: not a bad lap (1.22.000 exactly :roflmao: didnt do it on purspose lol) I knew some guys would do 1.21's, and actually I expected to do better lap but I'm not usually a qualyfier specialist lol so P3 was good to start.
Race: not a bad start but Frederic overtook me on the first corner cuz he had the interior line so I was 4th. At the uphill before the corkscrew I saw Daniel Hake going wide on the gravel and spun. That left handler is tricky, what a shame.
I knew some guys would be very fast at the beginning and with my strategy of non stop race I wanted to be as close as possible from the leaders. After few laps behind Frederic I saw I was a little bit faster than him in some parts so I tried to attack and force him to do a mistake but he defended very well his position. I could overtake him on an amazing side by side 3 first corners of the track, really tight racing there hehe.

After that, I managed to be in 2nd position behind Oscar Hardwick and closing down the gap sometimes, maybe due to trafic in front of him but we had almost the same pace without cars in front to overlap so I tried to take care of my tyres. But I didnt know that he was going to do a pitstop, so I was very surprised by that.

The final 30min were really smooth, less cars on track, much more easy to overlap. I could do consistent 23's and 24's until the end. I saw Oscar had some throubles because he could only close down the gap 10-15 secs to me, so first position was under control and finished without issues but my tyres were gone at the end, I believe 30% the right left wheel the worst lol

Congrats to the podium guys and to everyone who finished the race cuz this track was really tricky.

As always, it's been a pleasure to race here.

You really fooled me with your pace in the first few laps. I didn't have time for a real longrun test, so I was saving them for later. So I was running slower than I could, which is really hard in a battle. Really amazing how you managed the tyres. Without the spin I could have gone quicker, but wouldn't have been able to go that fast.
I never thought you were gonna make it around the outside of T1 really great move it is really slippy on the outside :thumbsup:
 
Maybe it was a mistake painting the cars like the Belgian Racing Ford GTs, cars almost notorious for beeing taken out at the start of a race by careless drivers :rolleyes:
Had a 458 mistake me for beeing the apex at T1, wich turned me around (and him) wich caused a chainreaction behind, wich ultimately lead me to go airborne... luckily, like a kitty cat, i landed on my feet facing the right direction, so i floored the gas and managed to resume in 20th...even more amazingly, my little aerial excursion, didn't seem to do any damage, so i was able push on.
Got up to around 11th position orso when i was Tboned by a Mclaren at the corkscrew, and that made a top 10 impossible from there on....
Then all of a sudden i cought that i needed to come into pits, like right now, for a drive through, or face a DQ... :confused:
After that i made my first mistake, dropped the rear right in grass on the right at corkscrew entry and flew into the wall with 10 minutes orso to go, so had to go into pits to get the front splitter fixed and threw on some new slicks while i was at it.

Good fun though, i'm curious where i could have ended had i not been pummeled about at crucial times :)

Freddy, p3 was amazing considering ur lack of practise and ur new wheel. Matt Horst also was great so gutted to ruin his race .txl driver of the week..@calum McClure .great drive..going from strength to strength against a massive field .in have learned my lessons this race. I was too aggressive and got carried away by my improved pace. That said, I started practise here at 1.27 and ended with a number of 1.22.0s earlier....once or twice being up by four tenths in sector one. This track was.really tricky . The mod had unrealistic grip and lots of bumps. So high downforce is needed for lap time ...but there is only really one overtaking opportunity which requires lower downforce to make headway and a really good exit in the final turn. One mistake and it was always going to be tough . @Oscar Hardwick I thought ur pole lap was really excellent. I was just curious because on server, I see a lot of hotlapping going on and some amazing times . However, rfactor 2 can be so tricky like real life ..if u kill the tyres . I would have been interested to see if ur could make the tyres last because I didn't see u at vwec endurance after ur initial practise. P2 was a very good result in such a large field .well done .​

Still a bit gutted I didn't push more in the first half of the race. Just saved my tyres too much. It's a bit weird saving tyres in a battle for position :D

That spin in the middle was really amazing. I just kept it out of the wall:whistling:

Quality on 1080p is much better than 720p or below.
 
I was the same as you Freddy, wish I pushed a bit harder early on, might have brought me closer to the top 3 at the end.

I had one small "battle" with Stefan I think, didn't really want to have it though, expected there to be more tire wear at that point :laugh: I suspected he was going to pit so just stuck to my race and when he made a move down the inside I didn't really fight it.
 
Tell you something. Watching that battle with Freddy and myself when I came out of the pitlane it really highlights not only how tricky overtaking was at Laguna but also in rfactor 2. You never have the ideal line which means that you are almost always passing on less grip. Explains my nearly losing the rear in to the last and first corners.

Don't sweat it to much,i was more gutted for you than me.Mistakes happen so all you can do is learn from them.I was pleased to climb back into the top 10 after the lap 2 incident,a pit stop to repair damage,a spin later on,and a drive through penalty for blue flag violation.
