Surprise! A new GRID game is heading our way this September 13th.

Having been heavily focussed on their rally and Formula One games since 2014’s GRID Autosport released, Codemasters have today made the surprise announcement that the popular franchise will be making a return to console and PC this year – confirming GRID 4 is set to release this September on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Featuring the usual mix of real world and fantasy tracks located across four continents, plus plenty of racing content from low power machines to Grand Prix cars, GRID should offer plenty of variety for players of all skill levels when it drops later this year.

Although exact details regarding the depth of content set to ship within the game has yet to be revealed by Codemasters, the British development team have confirmed the inclusion of Formula One machinery, in the form of at the least the 2006 Renault RS06.

With the new title having been developed in conjunction with Fernando Alonso and his eSport racing team, players will have the opportunity to race against the former double World Champion and 2018 Le Mans winner in game, as part of the structured career mode the title is so famous for in previous iterations of the franchise.

“We are also delighted to work alongside Fernando Alonso who is arguably one of the world’s greatest ever drivers” said Chris Smith, GRID Game Director at Codemasters. “His experience and knowledge has enabled us to make improvements to both the performance and handling of our cars. We could not be more proud to have signed him both in-game and as a Race Consultant. We can’t wait for our players to experience the final version when it comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC this September.”

As well as the inclusion of Alonso, images revealed from the game also reveal Brands Hatch will be included in the base version of the title, as well as a selection of tin top machines such as a TCR spec VW Golf and various American muscle cars.

GRID is well known as a ‘simcade’ style game, and it looks like the latest release will continue that trend, but with leanings towards simulation in order to appease a wide variety of driving tastes.

“GRID as a racing franchise is revered by our community and we are delighted to bring it to the current generation of consoles,” continued Smith. “The game offers so much variety and depth, from the number of modern and classic cars through to the locations and race options. Renowned for its handling, the game will appeal to all types of player, from casual drivers who want a lean-in challenge, to sim drivers who want some serious fun”

The game is already available to pre-order, and it looks like Codemasters will be adopting the DiRT 2.0 approach to post release DLC, with space set aside for 3 ‘seasons’ of additional purchasable content confirmed during the initial announcement.

More news will follow, as and when it becomes available.

I agree this is the main major issue with the game... and of course the FFB. For me, if it was like DR/DR2 I'd really enjoy it much more.

I completely disagree with the DR analogy. DR season 1-4 was perfect. So many developers leave out the previous tracks. I would pay double if FM7 would add historical tracks from FM4 and FM2 It would suck if we didn't have all the rallies and RX tracks in DR 2. I think the price was fir and it didn't upset the game if you choose not to buy it. So I say, please stop Whining, many of us liked it!

Now back on topic... Grid DLC is not great, but at least they incorporate it into the game's career mode. DR 2.0 did not.
DR has it's problems. But I completely agree on the season pass... It's good a really good added value. The problem with Seasons/DLC is that it makes the base game seen incomplete. I assume that the some games have gone up in price and I if you want the full experience you have to go all the way. It's a shame, but similar to complaining/comparing release price with a humble bundle pack price.

Codemasters have confirmed online public lobbies will soon be coming to their new racing game, GRID.

Yes, anyone looking to throw their hat into the ring for some could be good, could be awful online racing have reasons to be cheerful this Christmas - public lobby racing is making its way to arcade racer, GRID.

Believe it or not, two months on from release of this anticipated new arcade racing game from Codemasters, players still don't have the ability to engage in that favourite pass time we all love to hate - participating in unregulated public lobby events! Fear not dear sim racer, this particular itch is about to be scratched by the good people of Codemasters, the British studio recently informing the gaming public that plans are in place to bring this particular functionality to the title in early January 2020!

Originally planned for a little later into the new year, Codemasters have been flat out in recent times sketching ideas about how public lobbies can be incorporated into the new game, and now it seems like a first pass at this feature will be ahead of schedule, and should be released across all platforms too.

Although not a firm date, Codemasters are anticipating a January launch window, although they haven't ruled out a potential post Christmas holiday release too, so we might have some fun coming our way sooner than we think...

Good times (or frustrating first corner crashes) are on their way....

GRID is available now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Glad they're addressing this. If they do something close to what they had for the Grid reboots from a few years ago that would up replayability, but guessing it won't cover all that they offered with that multiplayer mode. I like being able to jump into relatively quick races without practice and qualifying.

I have a growing distaste for the sim racing crowd. Full of cursing and hateful attitudes. I'll probably move on from these sites. No offense to the folks that run it. I know. Don't let the door hit me on the way out. I won't. I certainly won't miss the nonsense.

To be fair, public lobby lists without AI filling the grid is a staple of any racing game. And GRID 2019 doesn't have it, while the previous games did. No-one is bashing this game for not being a serious sim. They are bashing CodeRemasters for releasing a game lacking basic functionality that was present in GRID titles many years ago.

CodeRemasters is turning into a shovelware company. It goes way beyond whether we like less serious racing games or not; it's about value for the money we pay.

There is nothing wrong with a good "arcade" or "sim-lite" racer. There is, however, something wrong when a remastered game is a mere shadow of its predecessors.

Simracing bootlickers are the worst. You guys are the reason the most advanced SP feature most racing games has is a ****ing basic championship mode. Get your tongue out of the developers ass please

Yes, this was my point. I love the first game, the second was meh and I didn't play Autosport, but I don't have the problem with the physics, I have problem with the lack of excitement and features.

LOL, help yourself to the rest of the Internet, but I think your expectations are too high hahah!

CodeRemasters

Love that!

My biggest issue with their single player is the rubber-band algorithms for the AI. If I screw up and miss a turn for some impromptu off-roading, and the field charges past me, they slow down and let me catch up. Then when I get a 5 second lead, they start lapping at an ungodly pace and hound my bumper. It's contrived.
