I used to run GP2, GP3, GP4 extensively in league and simulated seasons back in the day... Been keen to run some GP4 again to get that trademark Crammond-feel. Nowadays i have a sim rig based around a newer NVidia GTX680 Kepler GPU and overclocked I5, on 64 bit Win7... Is there any way i can get my original disc to install and then run ok on this?

Richard!
Welcome back to GP4 :)
Your PC specs. are similar to mines (and same OS). The game runs fine. If you want more help to install the game, I suggest you to ask here, as there are already all the informations needed into the FAQ.

I have always had a place on my hard drive for any of Geoff Crammonds master pieces. I really hope he comes back to do GP5.
Any ways, just like to say that GP4 works flawlessly on my modern over clocked i5 4670k pc with GTX77 card. It works like a dream.

guys I want to start playing GP4 to get the various season mods. But where do I even start!

I have read so many things about not having to buy the game etc, and I even got the game to load, but I can't change the driving controls or anything.

I'm really looking for a step by step guide to starting up with this, where to buy etc.

Head over to grandprixgames.org, also GP4 Central.
i don't think i am allowed to post links, but there is some additional information at those sites that are better catered to GP4 than RD is :)

Yeah I've stubbled across those sites and trying to work out what i do next. I think I need to purchase the game because I'm having trouble with the versions they have available for download.

check out the gpg.org forums, there might be stuff there to help you, such as running in admin mode etc

gp4.exe and gpxpatch.exe have to be set to compability mode xp sp3 and to run as admin. CSM (part of ZazTools) doesn't need compability mode, only run as admin.
Run the game at least once before installing ZazTools, to configure sound and graphics.
Also, if you have Win8, it's important to not install it to Program Files or Program Files (x86).

For more help ask at grandprixgames.org, as Aidan said.

I've still got my boxed copy's of GP 2,3 &4 ( I played the first one on my Amiga)
I could never bring myself to part with any of Crammonds masterpieces.

Is that for Windows 8? Never needed to do that for Windows 7 or lower.

I lucked into some pretty awesome settings for my G27 this weekend, and I must say this game is insane for a 2002 title now. I have played a great amount of hours on this game with the keyboard, but since discovering rFactor etc. with a wheel, and struggling to find nice settings with wheels for this game, it was left behind quite a bit for me.

So I started it up on Saturday, left my Logitech profiler on 107-0-0 and 900 degrees, and set my in-game steering lock to 20 degrees, and voila, we have a winner. I must add that I set intelliVibe on in GPxPatch.

Combined with the superior AI, it's the most offline fun you can have with your clothes on. It's also the first time I've been able to play the game on Ace difficulty - with keyboard, I was way off the pace in Ace, and had to resort to Pro, at most.

First race in Melbourne, did about 20 laps practice just to get the feel for the brakes and the kerbs, and since I was leading the timetable with my Alesi Jordan - default setups - I decided on a challenge and start right from the back.

58 arduous laps later, I finished 4th, and had no way of catching Hakkinen for 3rd as he was matching me basically exactly lap for lap, and in my over-eagerness to catch him I spun a few times. Luckily Montoya was over a minute behind me, after he and some other frontrunners spun quite a few times, so I held on to 4th.
