Utzer dominates quali
Stunning lap by the reigning champion to secure pole position for the season opener, beating Goddard by 2 tenths. Buurlage set the thrid best time, alongside him in 4th sits Jimmy Laad. The Saubers of Bradford and Kederer make up row 3. Behind them Rinneaho in 7th and Engberink in 8th. Ancevski and Martins complete the top 10.

9th! This gunna be good. A shame for Andy, will be a long fight from back there.

I'm surprised the two Minardi's are so high up with how little quali upgrades they had.

Laad ends barren run
Some 121 races had passed since his last win back in Monza in his title winning season, now Laad finally managed to take his 7th career win. Sitting in 4th for the first couple of laps, he went on to pass Buurlage, Goddard and Utzer all before the first stops. Expect for brief periods after his stops he kept in until the end. Oorjit Mishra finished 2nd, a personal best so far. A one stopper helped him to climb from 20th up through the field. Rinneaho completed the podium in 3rd place.
At the start Utzer and Goddard kept their positions, Bradford climbed up to 3rd. He couldn't enjoy it for long though, since his engine blew up in lap 3. Lutz got caught off guard by the slow Sauber, and crashed into him, taking him out as well. Harvey and Brugman didn't get much further either, both retired with engine failures, too. At the front Utzer and Goddard got caught up in an intense battle, allowing everyone up to Rinneaho in 7th to catch up. Goddard then wrestles past and started to pull away, while behind him they kept on battling. His lead didn't last for long though, in lap 15 he had to stop his car with an oil leak. Utzer regained the lead for one lap, before being passed by Laad.
After the first stops Laad was still in the lead ahead of Mishra, who was yet to come in. Utzer was 3rd, behind him Sigoulakis, Graham, Martins, Rinneaho and Lintner. Lintner went past Rinneaho for 7th, but a failed attempt to pass Martins for 6th put both of them to the end of the field. After Mishra did his first stop, the running order was Laad, Utzer, Sigoulakis, Graham, Rinneaho, Engberink, Buurlage, Kederer. An oil leak ended Kederer's hope for points in lap 41.
Laad stayed ahead of Utzer after they both had pitted for a last time. Laad's gap was quite comfortable, Utzer though had Sigoulakis right behind him. They mad contact, dropping Utzer to 11th, and Sigoulakis to 5th behind Graham, Mishra and Rinneaho. The Ferraris of Engberink and Buurlage were 6th and 7th, Keranen in 8th. Buurlage got passed by Keranen, before a mistake one lap later dropped him to last place. With 3 laps to go Graham lost 2nd, as a puncture forced him to do an extra stop. He dropped to 9th, right behind his teammate Ancevski. Laad won with a 30s to Mishra, who only just kept Rinneaho, Engberink and Sigoulakis behind. Keranen took 6th, Laskey 7th, Ancevski 8th. Further finishers were Graham, Utzer, Lintner, Martins, Brown and Buurlage.

FIA Press Conference
@Jimlaad43: You had to wait so long for this, how do you feel right now?
@oorjit07: How tough were those final laps, being on older tyres with the chasing pack right at your back?
@TTupsi: Stuck behind Mishra during the whole last stint, no chance to get past him?

Market is open!

That was quick!
Can't say I'm too happy, lacking race pace which was the main thing we upgraded. And again unlucky for Andy, good points were up there, stupid punctures again :cautious:
