Gear overlay with relative position?

When driving in RV you don't normaly need a hud indicating the current gear, because you can see the virtual dash monitor of your car. However, when you use sequential shifting also for manual cars it's hard to know what gear you are using. What I do is is to enable the game gear indicator (Assetto Corsa). Most of the times I can't decide where the position it. The best solution would be that is centered and low, not interfering with the view of the track, but wouldn't it be great if it worked as a hud on your helmet, so that you can see it no matter where you are looking at? Do you know if this is possible with Assetto Corsa or with any other external tool? An example of what I say can be seen in the Oculus Tray Tool. If you enable the performance panel, you will see it in front of your eyes all the time.
