Assetto Corsa Interview Free Content.jpg

We spoke at length with Stefano Casillo of Kunos Simulazioni about Assetto Corsa, some new free content incoming and all things racing...

The Sim Racing Expo was a wonderful opportunity for sim racers, developers, hardware manufacturers and the media to get together to celebrate the wonderful hobby we call sim racing. Thanks to the great access and atmosphere of the event we had the opportunity to chat with one of the key figures behind Assetto Corsa, Stefano Casillo, and he was more than happy to give us an insight into the behind the scenes workings at Kunos, plus revealing some exciting new free content coming to Assetto Corsa in the near future.

You can check out the interview below:

Originally planned as part of a standard paid DLC, Kunos scheduled the highly anticipated laser scanned version of Laguna Seca to release alongside a pack of new performance road cars for the simulation. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances the launch of Laguna hit one or two delays against the original schedule, slipping to much further in the calendar year that was the intention when the announcement was first hinted at several months ago.

In something of a generous gesture from Kunos, the popular Italian developers have decided to release both circuit and accompanying cars to the base game for free, bringing with it a very popular drivers circuit and six new cars to the title.

The confirmed free bonus pack DLC will contain:
  • Laguna Seca Circuit
  • Alfa Rome Giulia QV
  • Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale
  • Lamborghini Sesto Elemento
  • Lamborghini Huracan Performante
  • Maserati Quattroporte
  • Pagani Huayra BC
No exact release date has been confirmed by Kunos, however it is expected that players will be in receipt of the new content before the end of 2017.

If you missed it earlier, don't forget to check out our previous interview with Stefano where we talk about the new update and Ferrari Celebration DLC.

Assetto Corsa is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC now.

Granted the people are capable of driving the car you share the track with it can add a certain aspect of chaos to it, which can be fun. I just experienced that yesterday when I was on a server when the conditions changed from dry to wet. It is not a must-have in my opinion but it spices things up. Day to night transition is more important though, if I had to chose.
quite sadly both are important, if you are running 24h Leamans event, it's weird when it's always sun ( even worse in iRacing) and constant weather

if I had to chose, I would chose weather though, as it has more of an effect on racing, then night

This thread actually embarrasses me a little bit. :cautious:

I'm not saying everyone needs to love AC - hell, I'm the first to admit that, though I've played it since early access and own every piece of DLC they've produced, based purely on my personal preferences it's rarely been my go-to sim (it's often 2nd or even 3rd choice for me). But I can't imagine letting my own personal preferences getting to a religious level of conviction where I lose my mind in a thread discussing FREE CONTENT. Sheesh!

I think everyone would be well served to take a moment and consider what the state of sim racing would look like if not for groups like Kunos taking on the risk and hard work required to produce a working piece of software that, frankly, has a target audience that is a fraction of the scale that the "AAA" developers market to. If you take the Kunos's, the Reiza's, the ISI's, etc out of the picture, I sure as hell hope you are prepared to get your gearhead fix through games like "The Crew" (and not that there is anything wrong with a good arcade driving game, I'm just saying a world where those types of games are my only options is not a world I'd choose to live in).

Both weather and day/night are necessary for true SIMs. And I'm especially glad both are coming to AC.

Weather is glitz, looks good on videos, adds an amount of realism. But really, does it really add much to the game?
As we are trying to simulate all aspects of real life racing I'd guess a big phat yes. We did wet rain races back in the GTR2 and RACE 07 days and especially in leagues this really requires online racers to take things to the next level with regards to driving technique and setting up their car. Totally cool element to have if possible.

I had an AC server not too long ago and no one ever joined because I made it too hard for people. Boo hoo. And really, it wasn't that difficult. Just low grip for the first couple laps and perhaps some clouds. Guys actually told me my server sucked and no one wants those settings. Well, in fact I found that guys only want to race in perfect conditions. Then they will say they love simulations and not arcade games.

:) No actually, when you do add it at some point I will not say much other than 'Here it is. Like you said'. And it will be a great addition.
Just a try to help you
Night and rain will be NEVER added in Assetto Corsa by Kunos. But whatever will be the next project of Kunos Simulazioni (maybe a cat- or a spaceship simulator) will have this features for sure.
But NOT AC :)
Please get it now

Again cars will be left in the virtual garage due to lack of interest but a free LS laserscanned!?
Ha, didn't bought the ferraripack, again due to lack of interest, and now they give this track for free?!
Would have had my money ready for this one. But I'll have to learn to live with it I guess... :D
Very nice gesture though.

Also really curious what the future brings for KS,
or better said: What KS brings for the future.

In the meanwhile I'm gonna go for those 1000 hours ingame AC.
