Turn 10 Studios have today announced Forza Motorsport 6: Apex will enter open beta status on Thursday 5th May.

Forza 6: Apex marks the first foray into PC gaming for the long standing racing franchise, pitting the title against a rich field of racing games currently available to PC sim racers.

It will be an interesting experiment to see how the first attempt by Turn 10 to bring Forza to PC turns out. The studio have taken a unique approach to the move on to PC by offering Apex as a free title for users of the Windows 10 operating system.

Although somewhat sort on content in comparison to its console relatives, Apex will feature 63 vehicles and 20 track configurations across 6 unique locations. Seen as something of a toe in the water by the studio prior to full future releases of the Forza series coming to Windows and console machine in future.

"Forza Motorsport 6: Apex delivers a focused and curated single-player tour of Forza Motorsport’s best content, including authentic wheel-to-wheel action, unique automotive experiences, and constant rewards, all running on DirectX 12 at resolutions up to 4K. In the game, players will be able to dive into a new career mode anchored by a 12-event “Showcase Tour”, where players will race thrilling cars on circuits from across the globe. In addition, Apex’s new “Spotlight Series” events will challenge players with unique automotive events that will be updated on a regular basis. Along with a new set of Xbox Live achievements to earn worth 1000 gamerscore points, Apex players will find new mechanics to explore, including an all-new Race Points system that dares you to turn off the assists, develop your skills, and take on greater challenges."

As well as revealing a release date of May 5th for the game entering beta status, the studio have also confirmed continual support throughout the beta program with constant updates and eventual support for many racing wheel and pedal sets coming to the game at a later date.

I mean, the PC being able to play all xbox one games and giving you the option to run the PC in an Xbone mode.this Forza game seems to be a step in that direction, sort of testing the waters.

Just allowing higher resolutions doesn't change a lot. Sure, some ports are worse than others and some are really good but whenever you design first for a limited/weak platforn the more powerful will suffer. In best case just by not getting the features it could have handled.

That's not entirely true. Forza 6 on PC looks considerably better at higher resolutions since higher resolutions are just sharper and have less visible aliasing but there are also new graphics features available in Apex that aren't available on the Xbox One.

Did you ever try and connect the XB1 to a highres monitor? I did and tried it at first on my QHD (1440p) PC monitor with a 32" screen - and the picture I got with Forza and XB1 at all was much worth compared to my FullHD TV screen. And it's for sure not the fault of my PC monitor ;)

That probably because 1080p is the max resolution for an XBox One and it would have down-scaled from the native resolution of your 1440p monitor, and anything other than native resolution tends to look worse.

I do not disagree with this but I can tell you that Forza 6 on my 27 inch 1920 X 1080 Dell monitor looks much better than Forza 6 on my 32 inch 1920 X 1080 HDTV, even though the HDTV overall has a very high quality picture. The graphics on Forza 6 on Xbox One are amazing.

Yes, as it should do - but both are running at 1080p, so both at native resolution

My fault dude, that was a typo. I meant to say "Forza 6 on PC." I've corrected my original post. No, I've never connected my Xbox One to a higher resolution monitor, I do however play Forza 6 Apex on a 30" Dell at 2560x1600 resolution.

Are you using the same graphics quality settings within Forza Apex on both screens? If you're using the dynamic settings, it may be scaling back the quality in order to maintain the FPS running at the higher resolution, unless you have a beast of a GPU

I'm using a Nvidia 980 Ti, all graphics settings maxed out, no dynamic settings. The Xbox One obviously has no graphic settings. The bottom line is that increased resolution along with additional graphics options on the PC version explains why it looks better than the Xbox One version.

Forza 6 on XB1 is not always 1080p as it uses dynamic scaling to maintain framerate.

Having it available on PC alone is quite a big thing.

Being able to play upto 4K with improved graphics and maintain a full 60fps are benefits the PC brings. Such would not of been dreamed of, even a year ago perhaps. So even if they bring wheel support (hopefully with better than XB1 FFB) it could give followers of the series a new platform to experience the title in a better way.

Multi-screen / VR are wishful thinking perhaps but hey we can live in hope.
