FM3 Forza Motorsport 3

Forza Motorsport 3 (Turn 10 Studios)

Anyone have any info on this game? I have looked around but not really found anything about it. Besides Wikipedia.

I loved Forza 2 and played it for hours. If Forza 3 is the same thing but better, I'll be hooked on it for a while. The cockpit view is also a big draw-in for me, as Forza 2 did not have this. But if they decide to get rid of Le Mans series cars in Forza 3, that would NOT be good...

I still play Forza 2 now, love the series as I do Gran Turismo. Have they said they are getting rid of the Le Mans cars? Even if they do I'll still buy it the day its released, its been a quality series.

Well they didn't say that but so far everything presented have been strictly street cars.

There's no way there won't be LMP cars in the Forza 3. They have a partnership with the Peugeot 908 team and are 'probably' going to announce a partnership with the Audi R15 team on June 12, where they will also 'probably' reveal Le Mans as one of the tracks.

Lets hope it's NOT FM2 but better, I found FM2 a huge disappointment. There were a few good improvements, especially the auction house, but the menus still need an overhaul and the upgrade system was even more broken in FM2 than it was in FM1, with tyres not being counted as important enough.

Okay, so the lower classes were dominated by the CRX in FM1 but at least everyone liked driving them, not like the monsters you needed to drive in FM2 to be competitive.

The same in the mid-classes, everyone enjoyed driving either the TommyKaira M20b or the F355 Challenge in FM1, not like the monsters in FM2.

Since when is a 600bhp CRX faster than a 450bhp Ferrari round Nordschleife (A class)?

I hope that is fixed.

EDIT: Just as I thought. Turn10 have announced a 24 hour endurance race on FM3 on June 12/13 for the fastest contestants from NA on the LeMans track in an Audi R10. From the wording I would expect the R8 to be in the game aswell.

Credit goes to Badned and everyone at ForzaCentral.

A guy called 'Tofu R' (apparently a Turn10 employee) posted a load of information on FM3, and he is to be half-trusted apparently.

Information confirmed (allegedly) as true is in bold, the rest has not been denied or confirmed. The R35 line seems unlikely as Pro Street had it with custom livery and rollover.

Tofu R said:

Most of the tuner cars are gone, with the exception of the Mugen Honda Civic and Integra and the Mine's R32 and R34 Skyline. Thankfully, that means the awful tuner car liveries are gone too.

1971 Skyline 2000GTR

R33 GTR

No R35 GTR, because they are a bunch of twatwaffles. Apparently the GTR team is independent from the rest of Nissan on many levels, one of them being licensing. The only way they would allow us to use the R35 was if it had no damage, no rollover, no custom wheels, no custom parts that improved performance, no painting, and no livery. So we said no thanks.

I think that's a net +1 to the Skyline count.

The usual suspects have also been added:

Corvette ZR1
'09 Cadillac CTS-V
370Z
Reventon

Ferrari California
Evo X
GR STI
Camaro
Veyron

etc....

If you like your wheels old school:

Fiat 131 Abarth
2nd gen Toyota Celica Supra
250 Testa Rossa

Aston Martin DB5

If you like doodoo:

Yaris
Aveo
Xd

If you like Smokey and the Bandit or Knight Rider:

'79 Camaro Z28
'87 Firebird
'88 Camaro IROC-Z

If you like

trucks:

Range Rover Supercharged
Saleen S331 Supercab
Ram SRT10
Audi Q7
VW Toureg
Porsche Cayenne

If you like Italians:

Alfa 8C
Alfa Brera
Alfa Mito

Fiat 500 Abarth

If you like race cars:

Aston Martin Prodrive DB9s
997 and E92 BMW GT cars
Porsche, Acura, and Mazda LMP cars

Other interesting stuff:

ST205 Celica GT4

RS200 Evolution
'69 Dodge Charger Daytona

AMG SL65 Black
Renaultsport Twingo

Meh....that's all I can think of off the top of my head. If you ask about a specific car it may jog my memory.

As far as tracks go, the only big licensed one we added was

Le Mans. Fujimi Kaido is back though and pretty cool, and we have some imaginary tracks that are a huge improvement over the older stuff.

The big change to the Livery Editor is that all cars, including race cars, are paintable now. Black on black on black Ferrari Prodrive 550 GT1 racecar looks awesome. That is all.

As far as rollover goes, what you saw in the first video is pretty hard to accomplish. It won't be like Burnout where every car to car contact will result in exploding rollover mayhem. It's actually fairly hard to do. So don't worry. While physics compromises were made in order to make the game "more fun" to a wider audience, it's still more simulator than arcade.
The "one button" racing mode is basically massive assists and auto braking. You still have to steer and hit the gas, but it's designed for super casual quasi car guys that just want to race a pretty car around a track. All assists can be progressively turned off if you like.
Customising has a new "quick option" that allows you to set a PI limit, then bias it in favor of speed or handling, and the game will select a set of upgrades for you. Should make getting a car tuned for a PI limit race easier for the uninitiated.

The DLC plan is for 10 cars a month for the next year. Some of the cars will be things that didn't make it into the release version, like the Ford Escort RS1800 - some will be new cars we haven't seen yet, like the Corvette Gran Sport. I haven't the slightest clue what the track DLC plan is.

That's about it for now off the top of my head that might be interesting to you guys. Cheers.

No 24 hour races if that's what your thinking.

Other things that got cut:

Weather
Night/day
Active aero (again!)
Widebody kits with 12 inch wheels
Some really cool driver animations
Some digital gauge animations
Custom underbodies (with rollover comes undercarriage modeling - unfortunately, all the cars use a generic layouts, so sometimes they are wrong; like the Lamborghinis have the transmission rearward of the engine instead of infront, etc.)
Super high level of detail car models in replays (Currently the super high detailed models are used in the UI homespace/garage, thumbnails, livery editor, and photo mode).
No exposed suspension cars like Ariel Atoms, Lotus 340Rs or Caterhams, even though T10 owns PGR and they had the tech to model working suspensions.

Most of the cuts came about because there is immense pressure to hit the release date. There are careers on the line with this one, because FM1 and FM2 were so late. There WILL be a game called FM3 ready to go for October, the only question has been what kind of game it will be.

No WTCC cars, there will Australian Supercars though, both Holdens and Fords. And NASCAR cars in all their asymetrical glory.

The new Focus RS and the Fiesta.

Others I forgot to throw in there:

AMG ML63
Aston DBS
Alfa Giulia Sprint
510
G8 GXP
Evora
135i
E60 M5
M1
X5 4.8i

'09 Fit Sport

Scirocco
Volvo C30 R-Design
Mazdaspeed3
Citroen C4 VTS
IS-F
A4 Touring Car
C-Class Touring Car
Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe (might be DLC, can't remember)

Stuff coming in DLC:

SLR Stirling Moss
'10 Shelby GT500
Murcielago LP670SV

  • Kyle Evers

Good news there :). I loved using the Porsche 962c as well, much fun that was. It's also good they decided to add cockpit views. I think that's one of the waning factors of FM2 is the lack of an in-car or onboard camera.

That was because of the high workload of modelling all the cars interiors in high-detail plus the 4/5 changes you would get as part of the upgrade system. I'm guessing they've had to model 2000/2500 interiors for the in-game content alone.

  • Kyle Evers

Yeah as I understand it's hard work. Modeling everything correctly, making the arms work with the steering wheel and shifting, little things people don't realize. I'm just glad this time they decided to include it.

E3 has been 'the' event for announcing the newest games and tech. E306 was the year that the PS3 was announced, E305 the Xbox 360 was announced and E395 (the first E3 event held) the Playstation and Nintendo Virtual Boy were announced. E3 was, and is, the most important event on a gamer's calendar. Some new (and sometimes daft) technology is announced here, such as Microsoft's Project Natal announced this year. E309 was a very successful and jam-packed event after the downsizing of 2007. Could this mark the rebirth of E3? Goin' by what we've seen this year, hell yes! Anyhoo, on to the racing, what we're here for!

Forza 3 (Xbox 360):
This wasn't really a surprise. If it wasn't a new PGR, then it was sure as hell going to be this. If Microsoft's attempt at avatar kart racing didn't appeal to you, this should. Turn 10 Studios didn't show too much gameplay, just one track and some production cars. No sign of racing cars yet, but it is expected. Onto the figures: 400 cars from 50 manufacturers and 100 tracks. Also featured is an in-car view, a first for the series. Interesting cars seen are the Aston Martin DBS, the Alfa Romeo 8C Competetzione, Nissan 370Z and ofcourse the Audi R10. Release is expected to be on October 27, 2009.

My view:

Well this game is going to be hard pressed to out-do the astounding quality of Gran Turismo 5. With much less cars and tracks (from what we can tell) they will have to make up for it with gameplay and fun factor. This is something they could do as their formula has worked for them in the past. It's pretty clear that they are not aiming to create a fully fledged sim. Still, they did say in the press confrence "we have been at the forefront of physics simulation" or something along those lines. Infact, everything they said just made their game up to be the next Gran Turismo. Sure it looks beautiful and fun, but no matter what they say, they have less than the competitor... And that's a fact. I have also lost respect for both the game itself and the playerbase. Just take a look at this. Thos the the Championship Gaming Series World Final, these are meant to be the best in the world. Just take a look:

The driving shown here is simply outrageous. We need proper sim racers represented in these kind of series' <Rant over>.

Gran Turismo Mobile (PSP):
Well, after holding our breath, here it is. The official announcment of Gran Turismo Mobile, a title hinted at nearly 4 years ago. People really wanted to hear about GT5 and weren't too into the PSP titles, but thedetails revealed about this gam are simply staggering. 800 cars and 35 tracks (with 60 layouts). This game has more cars than GT4, it even has twice the cars of Forza 3! No gameplay shown, but there are screenshots around (gamespot.com) and I can tell you this, the game is no slouch. Looks pretty good for a PSP game (the trailer does not represent gameplay). he game will be released on October 1, 2009. It will be a PSP Go launch title.

My view:

I have to say, Polyphony Digital know how to deliver a product. Thos game is jam packed with more than many other games out today, and on a handheld. It will fill the gap between now and GT5 nicely, and with unique features such as car trading between other GTM users and GT5, this will give you something to aim for. I can't wait :)

Gran Turismo 5 (PS3):
Here it is, the big daddy. There were rumors of GT5 not making an appearance at this years E3 and this was looking to be the case through the course of the Sony press confrence, until they showed of a small trailer of GT5 near the end. What we beheld was something that made Chuck Norris flintch. It showcased damage, NASCAR, WRC and some new tracks (I could only recognise Indianapolis and the Top Gear test track). This made me, for one, excited. It had shown everything I'd ever wanted. Damage and WRC in GT5 spec. Nothing on figures at the moment, but can we expect "over 9000!" cars? Only time will tell. No release date announced to everyone's surprise, but the indications are pointing towards a Spring 2010 release.

My view:

Multiplatform:

DiRT 2:
I welcome any Rally game, but DiRT was just not up to the standard I'm used to with the Colin McRae rally games. It was an arcade game. Way to easy, cars had so much grip, you had no choice of tyres (computer made it for you) and the graphics were a little odd looking. But it did have a lot of cariety in classes, and a great career mode. With DiRT 2 they are making it a more American game. It will feature more rallycross stages and a LOT of in-game advertising. I can't wait though, looks a lot of fun. Codemasters are Americanising many of their racing games now which isn't necessarily bad, but certainly a far cry from previous titles. Ken Block is the new mascot for DiRT 2, as Travis Pestrana was for DiRT. See what I mean? The game is still under the Colin McRae series but could Codemasters change that in future? I hope not.

NFS: Shift:
NFS:Shift is an attempt at racing rather than street-racing. It seems to be more realistic, but the core remains the same. Win, and get a name for yourself. As Bradley Wint showed in the news, there is now a driver Profile which accompanies this hypothesis. If you tend to bump other cars, you get a smasher rating, like the bad guy. You race clean, such as passing without causing damage, you will become the nice guy. As it's more of a profile, I don't know how this fits into the actual racing element. Still, the game looks pretty immersive and there are quite a decent amount of cars to choose from. As for tracks, there are not too many, unfortunately.

So... In racing alone, we can see that E3 was a big hug for everyone. It showed quite a lot to us simracers for a wide range of preferences. Rallying, street circuit racing, NASCAR/Oval and racing on the Go (see what I did there?:victory:). Well, that's really all I can say about that. I have a race now, so I'm going to have to wrap up. I hope to post some more news in my spare time over the summer. So, in the words of Jeremy Clarkson "goodnight!".

I hope they put the Reventon - that'd be sick! Fortunately NFS Shift will have the Reventon if this game does not.
