Yes, there was a small patch released today. No, it isn't a new feature. They fixed car thumbnails causing crashes. This was mostly a problem for people with a lot of custom liveries. The fix causes the car thumbnails to update in sequence (one after another) rather than all at once. Apparently, the massive thumbnail update caused player's games to crash. So, if you see thumbnails changing as you are scrolling through your collection, it's the new normal.
