Alright when was that again.....?

They need to just be strict about no over the white line under any circumstances. No different rules for qualifying and race. There's no reason why this couldn't be automated. Go over a white line and make a gain in that sector instant punishment, no need to get a person involve to decide if it's legal.

The manufacturer’s legendary V16 will sing again its melody.

Almost 5 months ago, BRM sort of rose back from its ashes, like a tremendous, beautiful phoenix, announcing with the launch of a new stylish website the intention of building F1 cars again. Now, before you get some false hopes, they aren’t actually getting back into F1 (but dear heavens would that be oh so good). No, their plan is to build again three Type 15s, the first model from the marque to race in F1, which housed the marvelous V16 that is so well known among motorsport fans.

This effort is known in the trade as ‘Continuation Series’ (different from ‘Restorations’, in which existing cars are restored back to their former glory, and ‘Sanction Lost’, which is when a car gets built from the ground up again because it got destroyed at some point in its history). 'Continuation Series' are, in simple terms, when a manufacturer basically uses unused chassis numbers (cars that never actually got built even though they were put down in the house registry), to build ‘new’ classic cars.

The interest in this project, after the discovery of three unused chassis numbers in their logbook, was sparked by John Owen, Sir Alfred Owen’s son. He affirmed:

«Watching the likes of the Pampas Bull (Gonzalez) and, in particular, Fangio, master the power of the V16 was very special. The fabulous noise of the engine is still ringing in my ears 70 years on… In a selfish way, I have always dreamed of hearing that sound again and indeed I would like to share that experience with others. To hear it for the first time, to hear the V16 screaming at full tilt, is something special to behold».

Hall and Hall, BRM’s technical partners and historic automotive restoration specialists, were entrusted with the project, to re-build such a complex and fascinating car. A few days ago, they shared the news that they’ve successfully ran on the dyno an original BRM V16 engine. Martin Smith, Hall and Hall’s chief engine technician, said:

«We didn’t want to push it too hard on the dyno, but even so we estimate we got about 550BHP at 10,000 RPM and 2.5 psi – which is a huge step forward as we continue to build our experience and understanding of this astonishing engine».

As for how it sounds, well I’ll leave that for you to find out:

Everyone crying over the track limits thing. Max completed his move by going wide. If he hadn't have gone wide Hamilton would have been back up the inside into the next right hander.

They both did it most of the race hence the FIA making the call of enforcing the track limits at turn 4. Red Bull threw this one away because ultimately Mercedes strategists are better always have been. Everyone saying "it's the car" about Hamilton for the past few years have to eat their words because he managed to keep him behind for the remainder in a car that isn't the quickest anymore. Max had multiple DRS deployments and still couldn't get past him.

Another note. Personally I think, DRS shouldn't be allowed to be used for the top 2 or 3 in the race. Makes for an easy pass and no skill involved. Take it away and they'd have to catch and pass on skill alone.

So, only 0,7sec, on a hard to overtake track. He has to work this season

I wonder why so few people voted Lando Norris. He did brilliant with the McLaren, edged it out against Alonso over the whole weekend. I think the races of Verstappen, Hamilton and Perez have rather been "ok", given the car they were in. Second vote from myself would have gone to Tsunoda

Start in last position and finish in 5th would be amazing in Monaco, not there in in Bahrein driving the second best car of the grid even further if there's 4 F2 cars to be passed and, plus, with 3 long zones to use the stupid DRS which leave no chances for the front car defend its position.

Actually Perez was crushed by Verstappen all the time since pre season days and only did a minimal job not crashing.

DRS is a tool that needs to be activated, they don't get to use DRS all the time. It's only open to drivers who are faster than the car in front. It doesn't always guarantee an overtake as shown by Lewis Hamilton at the weekend.

Hamilton exceeded track limits when he made a rare mistake, locked up and went wide, he gained an advantage by not losing much time if at all...and was not penalised.

Yeah...when you can't overtake even with DRS, you don't have the faster car, Merc sandbagged pre season as per usual.

Merc have consistantly been the better overal package in multiple conditions, fuel load and tyre wear. Ferrari and Red Bull have on occasion got close and surpassed in limited scenario's...but overall the Merc package is pretty much the best and has been for for the last 7 years. The true test is ask any driver from any discipline what car they would want to drive in F1 and I can guarentee all the sane ones would say Mercedes........albeit not many would still want Lewis there as a teammate! ;)

Last year I think Bottas didn't manage to get back in top 5 after having to. unfortunately, pit again in Bahrain (was it on the oval?). Perez did a great job.

All luck to Lewis yesterday. after all..
the fia has to clarify the rules and Max had to wait a corner later or two corners... Lewis was there for diner. Next time pay day. But realy enjoy this race more please with more luck for Maxi

No doubt Max will win races this year... But that wasn't luck... It was a battle, if Max waited for the right moment he would have got the job done...
I think Lewis set Max up, knowing he would have to go off track...with a bit of ERS and looking after his tyres it was game over.

If he's that lucky as people say let's ask him to play the lottery..:):D

The blame here falls on the stewards and the stewards alone!!!!! they need to grow a pair and in force the track limits are the track limits!!! rule no if buts or maybes...... we are told that thgese are the best drivers in the world , then they must be able to go round a corner without falling off?

And lets be honest here they all managed in qualifying!!!

This season opener was truly a good race! Not because of the finish but because there was proper non-stop fighting for position at every part of the track. It made watching F1 truly enjoyable again. :D

Next to that it's the "turn 4 thingie" when Verstappen overtook Hamilton and gave his place back.

What I saw was Max passing Lewis (his car was ahead) on track and after the move was done he followed the same exit line Lewis had been using the entire race before. Sure, video is better evidence than still images because you can see trajectory, speed, steering, etc but still, see pictures below.

An important question is, when do you consider the "pass" of Verstappen on Hamilton "done" in this case? When his car is ahead on track? Can you separate the 'pass' from the 'exit'? And if so, having Max follow the same exit line Lewis has been using before unpunished, is it correct for the FIA to "change how rules are applied" during a race?

Not picking on anyone. Just wondering what your thoughts on these questions are. :coffee:

The pass is done once you have straighten out the car.

You are 100% right, white lines are the track limits, and thats it, not the end of the curb or part of the run off. Easy rule and at least in F1 it shouldn't be too hard to enforce.

So Merc F1 turned within one week from:

Bottas in testing: "The car is undriveable"

to

Bottas P3.

Makes sense when you remember that Crofty said Merc had not changed one part of the car according to Merc.
