SRO Motorsports Group and the FIA have announced today details for a newly named 2013 FIA GT Series which will preserve the highly competitive sprint-format of the former GT1 World Championship and bring together the most professional GT teams and drivers from Europe and beyond.

After months of discussions with the FIA and GT teams, SRO and the FIA have finalised the details for 2013. In light of the on-going economic downturn in Europe, a more limited programme will be run in 2013 with six key events. Only one of the races will be run outside of Europe and is to be held in the Middle East.

Ten teams have already announced the intention to have to enter the series with two cars and fits the objective of the FIA and SRO to field a grid of twenty four cars in total.
  • Belgian Autoclub WRT (Audi)
  • Phoenix (Audi)
  • Novadriver (Audi)
  • Sunred (most likely Audi)
  • Vita4One Racing (BMW)
  • Hermann’s BMW Team (BMW)
  • Rodrive Competições (Ford)
  • Reiter Engeneering (Lamborghini)
  • Sebastien Loeb Racing (McLaren)
  • HDC (Mercedes)
  • Prospeed (Porsche)

More teams will be announced in the coming weeks as the final entry list will be released on the first of February, after the official closing date of entries. Among those will most likely also be Hexis Racing (McLaren) Sofrev Auto Sport (Ferrari) and Sainteloc Racing (Audi) but will most likely enter on a race-by-race basis starting with the season opener at Nogaro.

The FIA GT format and regulations will be very similar to those of the former FIA GT1 World Championship, with the only significant difference being the introduction of a specific class for Pro-Am and young driver pairings. This format was successfully explored in 2012 when a combination of the GT1 World and GT3 European grids raced together at some events.

Calendar
  1. 1st April: Nogaro, France
  2. 21st April: Zolder, Belgium
  3. 14th July: Zandvoort, Netherlands
  4. 18th August: Slovakia Ring, Slovakia
  5. 13th October: Navarra, Spain
  6. November: Middle East (to be announced)

This should be pretty easy to mod. I think most sims already have all these cars.
Maybe we can set up a weekend series that follows this one in real life?
