Marco Massarutto has revealed a first image of the iconic Ferrari 250 GTO that is due to be added to Assetto Corsa later in the year.

As part of the Ferrari anniversary celebrations due to take place this year, Kunos revealed a while back that a very special Ferrari DLC will be arriving for Assetto Corsa during 2017, the first new Ferrari content in the game for a quite a while by all accounts likely to feature some of the finest cars ever released by the Italian manufacturers.

Part of the end of year blog post Kunos said of new Ferrari content:

"As you might know, in 2017 we will celebrate 70 years of the most iconic automotive Brand, and we’ll do it in our style, with seven of the most iconic and famous models created in Maranello. You can already start to think about your favourite ones, because you will have the chance to vote for it"

Presumably part of the new DLC package, Marco Massarutto has revealed a rather tempting looking teaser of the exceptional 250 GTO, long regarded as one of the most strikingly beautiful Ferrari's ever to be produced by a manufacturer world renowned for their design quality during the last 70 years of supercar manufacturing.

Produced by Ferrari between 1962 to 1964 for homologation into the FIA's Group 3 Grand Touring Car category, the 250 GTO very quickly went into the record books as one of the most desirable cars created by Enzo Ferrari and his engineers, supported by a long list of success out on the racetracks of the world. Using the then popular 3.0 litre Tipo 168 V12 engine, the 250 would be capable of producing 300hp when first launched, however as was the trend of the time the power down on the real wheels would be substantially biased towards the low end of the torque range, giving those lucky enough to purchase one of the 39 models produced a hair raising driving experience with plenty of opportunity for real wheel slip under heavy acceleration, something Ferrari and designers Giotto Bizzarrini and Sergio Scaglietti looked to help alleviate by adding wide track tyres to the rear of the car and the aerodynamic spoiler, helping shape the aggressive posture so famous with the 250 GTO.

With the car designed specifically to help Ferrari's quest to beat it's then main rivals Jaguar, Shelby and Aston Martin in GT racing, the 250 GTO marked a significant upturn in fortunes for the team. Securing the over 2000cc class of the FIA's International Championship for GT Manufacturers in 1962, 1963, and 1964 with such talents as Formula One World Champion Phil Hill behind the wheel of these beautiful machines.

Oh and that sound...
No details as to when the car will be made available, or indeed if the 250 GTO will come as part of a larger DLC pack or released as a standalone content are available at this time. Stay tuned to RaceDepartment for more information as and when it becomes known.

I have nothing against the car either if people could actually drive against it without having to own the content. It's not longer realistic to think that everybody wants all the content or can afford all the content.

People should be allowed to give a few DLC's that don't interest them a miss without having to miss out on action. On the contrary, racing content you don't own might even be a better motivation to actually buy it :)
I think everyone will agree that this is a feature that would step up the game. I believe the servers would be much more populated.

Why isn't everybody happy that we will get the 250 GTO? I don´t think Kunos is doing nothing in their headquarters and just do the 250 GTO because they are bored

It's probably the fact that the game is missing several important features (flag system, timed races, rolling starts, etc). The AI is terrible and overall it seems all Kunos is worried about is releasing new DLC instead of polishing their game. It's a glorified driving simulator. In terms of simulating racing it's one of the worst on the market IMO because of the missing features I highlighted above.

what you mean?

There are no rolling starts, timed races, or proper flag rules. The AI is extremely basic, doesn't know when to pit for races, does not work properly with multiclass racing. The presentation of the game is nonexistent and severely lacks character or soul. The overall polish of the game is extremely poor IMO. Instead of focusing on releasing more and more content, it would be nice to see Kunos polish their game and add the missing features that many other small developers like Sector 3 and Reiza have been able to accomplish. The small dev excuse is not acceptable to me.

I agree that Assetto has some missing features and issues but things like a flag system don't work in other games as well like F1 2016 and there is already a variant of this in form of corner cutting penalties. The timed races can you do with a bit of math (Time you want to race/ laptime =laps you have to set up for). In my opinion rolling starts would be a nice thing to add but are not a huge problem (correct me if I´m wrong).

Those compromises should not have to be made IMO. Again Reiza has managed to implement a full flag system with a safety car, rolling starts. Their game at least feels like a finished product. Can you honestly say AC feels finished? It's not even close. Kudos to Kunos for nailing the driving feel and physics. Who cares though if I can't enjoy it in proper racing fashion like I can with other products. I was patient with the development, but it's clear they are only interested in producing more DLC and not so worried about finishing their game with the features that would make it a proper motorsport simulator.

While you may have a general point, when it comes to the 250 GTO there are no 60s GT cars in the Kunos current line-up that would race against the 250 GTO so it will be racing against itself.

While the GT40 has recently been joined by the Porsche 908, in general, ACs historic content can only race against itself.

But if there was a Cobra 289 or a lightweight E-Type, I can't see fans of these cars NOT buying the 250GTO. It really is the holy grail for fans of early 60s GT racing.

You are right of course. That was more a general remark from me that is indeed not very valid to this specific and great car.

Comes standard with the game engine they are using.

I'm taking nothing away from modern sports/super cars, they are now as cars were then, beautiful, awe inspiring and at the cutting edge with the tech available. But, we need all the electronics etc. to assist driving modern machines, how can you not have anything but the utmost respect for a machine that required everything to be controlled by only the driver and his senses?
I would be more than happy to race in it against only other 250GTO's, the playing field would be level
which I think would be a definite plus point for me.

I'm really sorry for you, friends, if you cannot apreciate the importance of having some classic (iconic) cars in a ... sim , but for many of us those cars are what you call "must have" pieces of art !!!
It's impossible to understand the sport that we all love without a little knowledge of the origins of it, and the 250 GTO is a key part of it !!!
I can tell you that a game (sim) without classic cars has no place in my computer !!! (Probably my 64 years have a lot of influence in that ;))
And talking about classic Ferraris ... what about a 156 aka Sharknose ???

250 GTO in race trim = nice.

However, AC sorely needs more official tracks. Even with the DLC, it only has 20 tracks (with 42 variations). Compare to AMS 39 tracks (99 variations), pCARS 36 tracks (98 variations), rF2 33 tracks (76 variations), & R3E 33 tracks (76 variations)... so AC is easily down 50% to their competitors when it comes to official tracks.

the amount of angry comments "gimme x instead of this" is strong in this thread.

working on new cars never got entirely on the way for then to add and update features to the sim.

I think i al has to do with licensing. If you have the license of Ferrari you can make ca. 30 cars. For a track you have to get the license for each track.

I still have lots of fun on the available tracks, even the occasional outstanding modtrack.
But when I see what cars were released since the jappack and when looking at the carpacks to be released in the future ,
there isn't a single car that even gets me lukewarm so I as well would be all for adding features instead of cars that I probably only take a quick glance at in the garage, at most.
(Yes, they often are historical milestones but that doesn't mean I like to drive/race them)
For me personally the carpark is AC's weakest point compared to other sims. Only those damn physics are so good!! So the few cars I've driven up till now provided me already with loads of joy and challenge).
Tiremodel 10 was a pleasant surprise for me as well as the ability to make a false start. So more of this would imo be preferable. On the other hand let's not forget that it all started as a glorified demo so I don't know if there are lots of features left that can be implemented.
